    It's Not Working!

Hi all...... Hope this plan sure is working for you but it definitely is not for me.   I started Alli on Monday the 18th.  I was 157 when I started taking it (female - 5'7") and I would like to get back down to the mid 140's (142 would be great for me)   I'm 59 years old.  I use a diet plan that really works for me during the week ..... It has always afforded me about a five pound loss the first week then a 2 to 3 pound loss for each week that follows IF I exclude drinking any wine on the weekends for if I do that the weight that I lost all week comes right back on.    I was excited about Alli because I figured I could stick with my diet during the week (as well as the weekend) and still enjoy a few glasses of wine on Fri, Sat, and Sunday's which is such a treat for me in the summer months after the usual hard work of the outdoor summer upkeep around our home abode!  By Friday the 22nd I had dropped my five pounds with absolutely not one TE while taking the pill.    152 looked great on the scale for I knew I was on my way down.  Friday, Sat, and Sun  I had a few glasses of wine each evening but faithfully  STUCK TO MY DIET .... didn't bend the rules one ounce.  Monday I weighed myself and there it was ...... back up to 156 again!   Exactly what happened before when I didn't use Alli and stuck to my diet with the additional glasses of wine on the weekend.   So it's off the Alli for me and off the wine until I get this weight off.  I really think that it's not the pill that's affording everyone to lose those pounds  ....... it's useless as far as I am concerned  and just another great American Rip-Off ...... It's simply a matter of sticking to a diet plan without bending the rules no matter how long it takes to get off the weight!   Has anyone else experienced the frustration that I have and the wasted money that I just spent on this pill? ....... ElRocco.

    Re: It's Not Working!

I am starting to feel that way too.  Down 2.5 pounds after 10 days of sticking to it to the letter and I didn't even have wine!  I used to be able to lose 3 to 4 pounds my first week on a plan.  I am willing to give it another couple of weeks but if I don't do better than this, I will be looking for a refund too.  Also the lack of response from alliadmin to the miserable slowness of these boards has been frustrating.  They are raking it in, you'd think they could process our questions more quickly.  Two days to see a post appear is shameful.

    Re: It's Not Working!

Did you check to make sure that you actually fall within the weight range that is required for taking Alli? Alli isn't for folks who want to get off a few pounds, but people who are very overweight to obese. You have to check your height, weight, and BMI first. Exactly how much wine are you drinking? One glass per day over the weekend? Or maybe it's more like 3 or 4 per day. Either way, that's a lot of alcohol in a week. Alcohol is a depressant. It also slows down your body's ability to properly metabolize food. It sounds like the problem is how much you're drinking and not Alli. Maybe you should read up on the myriad reasons of why alcohol is BAD for weight loss. Also, wine has calories - depending on how much you drink, you could be consuming many, many calories. Alcohol also tends to make us want to eat more. What are you eating while you're having your wine? The solution seems to be: QUIT drinking the wine! Really, is it necessary to drink wine everyday of the weekend? Reward yourself with something else. This medication has been proven effective for quite some time. Don't be so hasty to blame the pill or the people behind it. You may think you aren't bending the rules when you really are.

    Re: It's Not Working!

I dont think you are even at a weight where alli would be effective for you. Go back and read the guidelines. It isnt possible to gain 4 pounds in 3 days. It is most likely water retention. Also, alli doesnt block anything but the 25% fat you eat with it. I am not sure how many calories are in a glass of wine, but drinking all weekend will definitely add water weight. It is supposed to assist in weight loss by blocking some absorption of fat, not carbs or calories unless they are fat calories. I dont think you should blame other people for the outcome. It says clearly you need to stick to a plan and then add alli to help lose more. It doesnt say cheat with wine all weekend and not see it show up on the scale! I think it is way to soon to start pointing fingers after only taking it not even 2 weeks, you need to take responsibility.

    Re: It's Not Working!

I'm 58 years old, following Jenny Craig which is low fat diet -- in one week using ALLI I have lost 2 pounds-- for me I think that is great-- I think that sometimes, I know I do, think that if I am on a 1500 calorie diet plan the weight should just be dropping off like crazy, in the real world it don't work like that -- I walk 2.5 miles 5 days a week and I really think I should be loosing more but I spoke to my counsellor last night and she suggested doign different exercises at the gym , circuit, classes -- I am going to try to see how that works this week

    Re: It's Not Working!

Wow. I'm surprised to hear your reaction. I started low-fat diet on 6/18 and started alli on 6/23. I have lost 4 pounds since beginning the pills (had already lost some on low-fat diet). I did attend a dinner on 6/25 and had a few glasses of wine, but it did not adversely affect my weight loss. I'm wondering if your old standby diet isn't working exactly as you think it is. Is it possible you are just losing water weight? I find I always weigh the least after strenuous activity and I regain it as soon as I hydrate. Also...consider the numbers for a minute. Essentially you are saying you stick to your diet Monday-Thursday and you indulge on the weekends Friday-Sunday. So you diet for four days only to party for three. If you can lose five pounds in four days, why would you be shocked by regaining it in three? I'm sorry to hear that you did not have the same results as I did. I have been quite pleased and have NO doubt that I'm not being ripped off (one high fat meal should prove that). Perhaps refocusing on the health benefits afforded by this plan would help keep you motivated. You might as well try. You already bought the stuff. Good luck!

    Re: It's Not Working!

Well I know the pill is working for me. I didn't follow the rules. For the first week I ate the same things as always. I didn't exercise...lol. I changed nothing. The only thing I did was take a pill. I lost 4lbs. So, now I am eating better and exercising. The first week was just an experiment. I feel better already.

    Re: It's Not Working!

I only had one glass of wine on Friday, 2 on Saturday and one on Sunday.   I don't consider that a lot of wine nor do I consider it to be a lot to consume over the weekend.  I stuck to my diet plan to which is Eat Right For Your Blood Type.  At the age of 52 I weighed 174 pounds and in 3 months I was down to 142 on this diet.  They claim that Alli doesn't affect wine (or alcohol for that matter)   and wine doesn't affect Alli if you don't cheat.  Friday I ate a small steak and a salad with fat free dressing.  Saturday I ate a hamberger - no bread - and a salad and some brocolli w/ fat free dressing.  Sunday I ate a piece of grilled chicken  with a salad w/ fat free dressing and some spinach.  I've always since the age of 18 only eaten one meal a day.  I know that's not recommended by anyone but that's what my body is use too.  And that's also how I ate at the age of 52 when I lost all that weight on this diet plan.  My diet still works excellent for me for this is a top notch plan because it works with your body and not against it.   I would recommend it to anyone to use because it's very healthy and very easy to follow. and it won't fail you !    So like I said ..... Alli isn't working for me ,   at least not the way that they claimed it would if you add some alchohol and or wine to your diet providing that you totally stick to it and are including  the calories of whatever it is that you are drinking towards that meal.  I still think that it's not the pill that's affording people to lose weight but it's the diet plans that people are faithfully sticking to now that are working.  The pill seems to just be a real PUSH for people's brains to make them stick to their diet plans or face those aweful sounding TE's for which I have yet to experience.  Just my opinion .  So good luck to all of you in your future venture .... but as for me ..... Alli won't be counting my dollars anymore.  ElRocco.

I have always heard that alcohol slows down your metabolism by 30%. I know that really sucks!

    Re: It's Not Working!

I'm sorry that this is not working for you. However, it took time to put the weight on so maybe it should take some time to take it off.  Don't give up, yet.  If nothing else maybe you are eating more healthily and exercising more. You may be toning muscle which is good for your metabolism.  I'd recommend your reading the book "Are You Losing It" published by alli. Follow the meal plans on the website.  The recipes are quick, easy and suprisingly good.

Keep trying...no I don't have an affiliation with the product.  :-)

Maybe just give up the alcohol for a few months and see where you are at.

    Re: It's Not Working!

It's not the wine, it is your attitude!  All the pill does is cut out 25% of the fat you ingest and gives you incentive to eat right so you don't get TE's. It is not a magic pill. It doesn't do the work for you. It works with you. We can only blame ourselves if we don't lose the weight.

    Re: It's Not Working!

I just checked in for my first time - and lost 2 lbs when I got on the scale this morning.  I just starting taking the pills yesterday at breakfast.  I followed a low fat diet all week, wrote everything down.  Went out last night, did not follow the plan as best as I could (low fat) - had mexican food and two margaritas.  I'm sure if I was to weigh in tomorrow, I probably would not have seen 2 lbs lost, instead a gain.  Today, I am staying home and already had some TE's because of last night I'm sure.  The only thing I can say is stick with it, because our weight (women) seems to be different from one week to the next.

I'm sticking with it !!  I just know if I'm bad with not following a low fat diest, I know the "end" results...

    Re: It's Not Working!

Hi! The one thing I have learned on this diet is that for my entire life I have had a corrupt view of portion sizes and the biggest problem has been my dishes.  The ones used in resturants are unusually large too. Including wine glasses. What has worked for me is to keep a measuring cup on the counter  for liquids and dry foods. I have been measuring both types of foods and  I found that I was drinking 1/4 cup of flavored creamer in my coffee each morning! Partially because I'm a free pourer and I like my big starbucks mugs. The calories in that exceeded 150!  Anyhow, I know you're asking about wine and not coffee, but maybe try to measure your wine before you put it in your glass- then you can reprogram your eye to recognize a serving. The other thing that works is getting smaller glasses. I am using smaller coffee cups and it only took 2 days for me to feel OK about the serving size. ( I love my coffee! :-} )  The whole measuring cup thing is a little tedious, but I figure I owe it to myself to re learn a healthy way to eat. I am tired of always being on or falling off my diet. I am ready to make better choices- jeeze I sound like a commercial for this program..LOL. Anyway try it, it may work. Good Luck! -Winky
