Mixed Messages - Please Clarify Fat Gram Issue

In some mod responses I'm picking up that meals should be limited to 15 grams of fat or less or one might experience treatment effects.

In other mod responses the implication is that Alli is not providing a benefit if one is not consuming at least 15 grams of fat per meal.

Please clarify - at what point is Alli beneficial?

I have been taking it for nine days now and so far most breakfasts are 5-10 fat grams, most lunches are 6-15 fat grams and dinners are averaging 8-10 fat grams. I am losing weight, but I'm curious whether at these fat gram levels, is Alli contributing to the weight loss or is it due to the low fat nature of what I'm eating?

I have the exact same questions, posted them and have yet to hear an answer.  If ever you get one let me know!

    Confused,

    Kristi

Re: Mixed Messages - Please Clarify Fat Gram Issue

    Hi Everyone,
I have been clarifying this question on a bunch of posts. I hope that this is going to clear this up for everyone. Everyone was given a fat gram goal. The way that Alli will work is to block 25% of the fat that you consume in the meal that you take it with. I assume that people would like to get the biggest "bang for their buck" while taking Alli. If you reach your fat goal you will excrete as much fat as you safely can without having treatment effects. By excreting the fat, you excrete the calories from the fat that would have been consumed. Weight loss will only occur when you consume fewer calories than your body needs. By excreting additional calories you will get additional weight loss.

Any amount of fat that you eat in that meal will have 25% excreted. The point of having your goal number is to assist with the desired 50% more weight loss. There is a calorie difference between excreting 1 gram of fat (9 calories) versus 4 grams of fat (36 calories). You can take Alli with less fat, but you want to be aware of the fact that your body does need fat. Be sure to reach your fat goal for at least one meal a day.

    How does that sound?

Betty, I just wanted to let you know that you have MORE than clarified the fat gram issue with this statement... I assume that people would like to get the biggest "bang for their buck" while taking Alli. Thank you for your knowledge and patience with all of our questions!

Thanks for the response.  I have less than my target fat grams for most meals but I do meet that goal at least once each day.  I have lost 10 pounds in 2 weeks, and I hope to stay on track to loose 2 - 3 pounds each week.
