Re: doubling your dose of alli??

If you want to spend $120 a month....

I'd go to the doctor and get a prescription for the 120mg if you want to do that.  It's just not worth the price.  Best of luck!

    Re: Menopause Manor

    Hello,

I just joined today also. I will be 50 in January. I have gone at this backwards as I started the pills on the day I bought them. I did not realize that it would take a few days and now I will probably get hit with the side effects tomorrow at work. I am a Registered Mammographer so at least I will be on my feet most of the day.

I guess I didn't plan this right as I am going on vacation the end of next week. I hate to start and stop the pills. Any ideas on what I should do??

Re: doubling your dose of alli??

I recently read in the latest Woman's World magazine that  "Alli's 60 mg. dose of orlistat works 85% as well as a 120 mg prescription dose.  And the smaller dose reduces the risk of side effects."  The magazine article also said, "Alli prevents about 25% of the calories in fat we eat from being absorbed in the intestines.  That means you get to eat up to 200 calories a day that don't count.  You can expect appetite changes too.  Orlistat dieters often crave healthier fare--especially foods that are lower in fat which automatically reduces calories even more."  Hope this information is helpful.  This article was how I first learned about Alli.  My hubby and I are both on it.  It helps to have a partner who is also committed.

Re: doubling your dose of alli??

    Good Morning.

I haven't started Alli yet.  I have a low cal, low fat day planned.  I am wondering if all of you did the recommended 3 days of dieting before starting the pills?  Did anyone just start right off with the pills?

Also, regarding the doubling of the dose.  I see several responses that say not to, "that dose ranging studies show that it is unlikely that higher doses will provide better results. Additional doses are not recommended. If that is the case, then why is there Xenical?  Why do doctors prescribe 120mg for anyone?

And to the poster above who said: "If you want to spend $120 a month....I'd go to the doctor and get a prescription for the 120mg if you want to do that.  It's just not worth the price.  Best of luck!"  Most insurance companies won't cover diet pills, so you would have to pay OOP & the cost is way more!  It would be cheaper to buy Alli and double the dose than to pay OOP for a prescription of Xenical.

Just throwing out food for thought...  Honestly, I want to double my dose.  I want the best results I can get.  I am 5'2" and weigh 197 pounds.  That is disgusting.  I am sick of it.
