    Slim Fast Optima and Alli.

Does anyone know if I can still use my Slim-Fast Optima plan and take Alli too?  Everything I have read talks about the >15 grams of fat, but I can't find anything about using Slim-Fast Optima and Alli.  Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you,                                                                                                                  Karen                                                                                                          GASuburbanMom

I would think that as long as you don't exceed the fat grams you are okay. The only problem I see is that in my opinion the shakes don't keep you satisfied very long. One of the problems I have had in the past with reduced fat intake is not feeling satisfied for very long. Unless someone says its against the plan, I too will use protein shakes occassionally as long as they follow the under 15 grams of fat rule. seems like that is the central rule for Alli program.

Yes, as long as you stick to the fat content perday that alli recommends, I think it should be ok as well.

Re: Slim Fast Optima and Alli.

I just bought Alli today and will start using it tonight. I've been on Slim fast optima for a few days and I'm incorporating some of the weight watchers rules into my new healthy lifestyle. I figure as long as you stay wihtin the fat grams aloud and your eating low cal also you can't fail. Good luck to all. Oh yeah and don't forget lots of water and try and do some form of movement called exercise but fun!

Re: Slim Fast Optima and Alli.

This is just my own opinion...I drink Slim Fast everyday for breakfast and lunch.  I am not taking Alli with the shakes because they are already so low in fat.  SOME fat in your diet is good.  So, I am ASSUMING that the fat I am getting in the shakes is okay for me.  Not to mention, the shakes have a lot of vitamins, minerals, and some fiber in them and I do not want to hinder my ability to absorb these by taking Alli with them.

    Good luck!

I just started the Alli too.  I don't see why we can't use the Slim-Fast Optima Shake, if it is within the fat grams allowed.

Re: Slim Fast Optima and Alli.

well I am using meal replacement shakes, not slim fast, but ones from LA weight loss.  I use them for breaksfast only, and they really keep me full until lunch.  seriously...i am not hungry until 1 or 2 pm and I drink them around 9.  I think any drinks are ok.  good luck.

Re: Slim Fast Optima and Alli.

    Hi Karen,

You brought up a very good topic. Meal replacements are an effective tool for weight loss and maintenance. The key is finding ones with the right nutrients to help you feel satisfied. The only nutrient that keeps you feeling full between meals is protein, not fat. If you are hungry 2 hours later it would be a good idea to add some protein to your shake. There is not enough fat in the Slim Fast Optima for you to take Alli with. The shake that I looked up has 180 calories, 6 grams of fat, and 10 grams of protein. My exprience is that 14 grams or more protein usually does the trick for increasing satiety. If you want to add some protein to this you could have some nuts with it. That would also increase your calories and fat so be sure to add the right amount. You would be able to take Alli with it if your fat grams go over 15 grams. Let us know how this goes, Betty Kovacs, MS, RD
