Re: LET'S SHARE IDEAS FOR FIGHTING HUNGER

Hi! I have been on the program for 10 days and have lost 3 pounds. I think it is more the food diary than the medication, but whatever works! I do find that I am hungry most mid morning so I make the following and it helps!

1  8oz. container of plain nonfat yogurt (120-130 cal)

1 Sliced or chunked medium peach, apple or nectarine (70/60/75 cal) these fruits have trace fats.

1 or 2 packets of splenda to taste if desired. I find Plain Yogurt has a sour cream taste, but has more protein than flavored brands, and adding the splenda gives it a vanilla flavor.

     mix well and enjoy! :)

Re: LET'S SHARE IDEAS FOR FIGHTING HUNGER

I find avoiding sugar and white flour products help me control my hunger the best.  I need protein and good fats in my diet to control the "screaming monkeys in my head" that tell me to eat up and don't get off the couch.

Re: LET'S SHARE IDEAS FOR FIGHTING HUNGER

I agree, it is your whites that make you hungry.

Instead of white bread, bagels, ect. Get whole wheat bread, pita, bagles, tortilla.

Instead of white sugar, eat sugar free, (but watch the fat content on those, they tend to replace sugar with fat, to give product taste). Also honey ( in small amounts), or fruit for that sugar fix.

Instead of white rice & pasta eat brown rice, whole wheat pasta

Instead of white potatos eat sweet potatos, squash, stuff like that, although I dont personallly get that hungry from a white potato

The reason for this is the glycemic index. You hear them talk about good carbs & bad. White bread is bad because it hits your stomach & turns to sugar almost immediately, causing a rise in your blood sugar that will quickly drop & the drop will make you ravinously hungry. To test this, take a peice of white bread & a peice of whole grain bread, put them on the counter & dump water on them, the white bread will turn to a soggy blob almost immediately, but the whole grain peice with some substance will stay there longer, keeping your blood sugar steady.

It is when you dont keep your blood sugar steady you get hungry.

When you eat fruit you should eat it with a protein. Like an apple with a peice of cheese.

Also you will be less hungry if you eat several small meals instead of 3 large. So eat your snacks the program gives you when you get hungry.

Re: LET'S SHARE IDEAS FOR FIGHTING HUNGER

Hi all, I agree once you get rid of bad carbs , high processed foods....it really ,, does make a difference, I read somewhere that is is proven that process food are addicting...you just want more and more...if you get pass the phase of not including them...hunger really does go down, for me at least..

Also, if I have slimfast the powder kind mixed in a blender with fatfree milk and lots of ice...

seems to cut my cravings .....love the royal chocolate, even add some of my coffee in it..

mmmmm...getting hungry thinking about it...and hey its not a bag of chips..lol

Re: LET'S SHARE IDEAS FOR FIGHTING HUNGER

I've been doing lots of smoothies--nonfat yogurt, splenda, a little orange juice, a little nonfat milk, and fruit all blended up together. It's gotten really warm here the last couple of days so it's a great treat that's nice and cold and creamy without all the calories and/or fat. I also like reduced fat triscuits with fat free cheese topped with jalepenoes. Yum-o!

The last time I looked at the Slim Fast it was loaded with sugar, which makes me hungry, but it may not be anymore.

Re: LET'S SHARE IDEAS FOR FIGHTING HUNGER

It really doesn't matter what brand of protein powder you use however, there are Soy proteins, whey proteins, and vegetable proteins.  The vegetable protein has no fat, 70 cals and 17 grams protein.  The whey has 1.5 grams of fat, 105 cals, and 21 grams of protein.  I use either the whey or the veg.  The brand I use has a web site  www.mloproducts.com

Re: LET'S SHARE IDEAS FOR FIGHTING HUNGER

I bought a soy protein drink mix by Advantage from Wal-Mart. It is a bit higher in calories than the ones you mentioned. I tried it in my smoothie and did find the smoothie filled me up for longer. I am going to check out the link you gave for a lower cal powder. Thanks.
