Re: my meal and snack ideas..what are yours?

Thanks for the great ideas!...I agree about the Lean Cuisines especially the pepperoni pizza...If I can have pepperoni pizza I can stick to this diet!...Sugar free popsicles are a life saver for me...Most of them have 0 fat and only between 15 and 20 calories and are great anytime you just need something to snack on...For chocolate I tried the Hersey 100 calorie chocolate covered pretzels...They're great and you can't beat that combination of salty and sweet...I've also been snacking on the 100 calorie microwave popcorn mini bags...I lost 5lbs my first week on the diet and I have my next week on Friday, 7/6...Good Luck to everyone, keep up the good work and keep sharing your food ideas!...

Re: my meal and snack ideas..what are yours?

Breyers makes a fat free double churned french chocolate ice cream that has 90 calories per 1/2 cup. It tastes great. They make vanilla as well.

For a snack fix the baked cheetos are pretty good. 130 calories and 5 grams of fat for 34.

Also try the "I can't believe it's not butter" spray instead of butter or margarine 0 fat, 0 calories.

    Good luck,

    Kurt

Re: my meal and snack ideas..what are yours?

Hello there,I recommend Wasa crackers.  I actually saw this snack idea on an Oprah show.  If you buy the light rye, you get two fairly large crackers for 35 calories.  You can top them with a low fat or fat free cheese of your choice (I prefer tofu cream cheese), add sliced turkey *** (the peppered turkey from Safeway deli is great), lettuce, and tomato (or other vegetables you prefer, I also like it with basil or spinach instead of lettuce).  You wrap everything in the lettuce or leafy green and eat each cracker open faced so you get two.  You can use the Wasa crackers with just about anything, they have lots of flavors.  I found them at Wild Oats.  I also like oatmeal with fresh blueberries and a few walnuts with added cinnamon.   I love making my own parfaits with low-fat or fat-free yoghurt, with fresh or frozen berries, low-fat or fat-free granola or cereal.  Snack'Ums mini pickles are great, I like the spicy ones.  When I get bored of yoghurt, I have the cottage cheese and fruit snacks which have only 2 grams of fat and 130 calories.  My boyfriend introduced me to Morning Star sausage links and patties and "chicken" nuggets which are made of tofu and low in fat.  We are not vegetarians but love these.  They have lots of protein and really fill me up for breakfast.

Have fun experimenting with low-fat foods.

Re: my meal and snack ideas..what are yours?

Today I discovered that you can have 43 Peppridge Pretzel fish for 130 calories and 2.5 g fat.  I was so excited just to count out 43 of something!!  I have also started doing wine spritzers.  I do about 1/2 wine, 1/2 seltzer and a little lemon.  They are refreshing and the books says only 71 calories.  Which makes sense.  I too am a big fan of the Lean Cuisine and Heathly Choice meals.  With the Heathly Choice you actually get desert!!

Re: my meal and snack ideas..what are yours?

I find this challenging for a couple of reasons. I do not like a lot of foods with preservatives so I stay away from the frozen dinner aisle for the most part. I have an allergy to citrus fruits so I can't use most fruits as a snack (I get blisters on my tongue) very often. I can eat a necterine (white flesh!) and maybe again the next day but by the third day it causes blisters. Instead of skim/low fat milk I use soy milk. It is better for me in various ways but also has better flavor. Richer. Creamier. When I want something crunchy I sometimes eat a handful of baking almonds (nothing added). It is high in fats but I only eat a small amount and it cures the urge. I love ice cream. WalMart has several flavors of sherbert now...peach, pineapple, strawberry. I like to eat some with Breyers lactose free vanilla ice cream. It's like eating a dreamcicle but with a different flavor. It keeps me from eating as much ice cream. I figure I'm going to eat it, so how can I reduce how much I eat - and this is my solution.

Re: my meal and snack ideas..what are yours?

I'm only on Day 4 but have discovered a few items that are really working for me!

    • Ballpark, beef, fat free hot dogs - they are DELICIOUS!
    • Ranch dip mix with fat free sour cream (and to make it thicker add in some fat free cream cheese) + fat free pretzels
    • In the morning I've been having Trader Joe's (frozen) steel cut oatmeal w/I can't believe its not butter (and I really can't believe it isn't), a spoonfull each of brown sugar, walnuts, and cranberries. It really fills you up and is ~7g of fat.
    • The I Can't Believe It's Not Butter spray.
    • Coke Zero
    • No Pudge Brownies (are great BUT keep them in the fridge otherwise they get really soft)
    • Instead of mayo on a Subway sandwich try the fat free sweet onion dressing...I get a 6" grilled chicken ***, on wheat w/veggies and that - delicious!
