    Fat Content - Confused :(

I did a search to see if I could find if someone else already posted this - but couldn't find anything, thus the reason for this post.

OK .. guess I need help figuring out how to figure out how many fat to eat per meal (sigh).  DIdn't think I was this dumb !!

Take for instance .. I have a wrapper from an Otis Spumkmeyer Cheese Streusel Muffin that I got out of the machine yesterday at work (along with this I had some fat free yogurt w/blackberries that I picked off our wild berry bushes!).  Anyway - the nutrition facts on the back of the wrapper it states total fat 9G - 14%, saturated fat 2.5g 12%.  OK folks ... is the fat that I count for my breakfast the 9G total fat ???  I look at the nutrition facts on boxes, cans, frozen food bags, etc.  but I'm just totally lost.  Why can't I get this through my head?

Sher,  Do you use the alli food log to keep track of what you are eating?  I love it!

It's under My Food Plan.  If you click on Define New Food, you can enter all the nutritional information on anything you eat.  It is saved for future reference, also.  If you click on Add food (I think) type in say, peaches and there are choices for types and amounts.

(I first delete the daily menu items that Alli  has prepared.)

This week, I added Nutrigrain Waffles and have been enjoying them with a little peanut butter. I had to add that brand of waffles but the peanut butter was already in there.  Some eat out items are included. It counts the total fat, saturated fats, carbs, calories etc. and then gives you a summary of each meal or the daily intake.  Play around with it...it's a great tool.

Re: Fat Content - Confused :(

AS far I understood it the total fat is the fat you should be counting.  The recommended amount of fat allowed per meal is based on the individual, when I entered in my details it calculated that I could have 12g per meal.   So for example today for lunch I had a lean pocket 7 grams of total fat and some sun chips 5 grams of far so together the total fat consumed for my lunch is 12 grams of total fat.

I will be curious to see what others have to say!

    Hi:

I don't know if I'm doing it correctly, but I always go by the total fat grams.

Yes, 9g is the total amount of fat. Then it's separated out into Saturated, Polyunsaturated, Monounstaturated and TransFat, and those numbers only relate to the original 9g. I still haven't come across any nutrition labels that actually account for the total grams of fat - usually they'll just list a little bit in the Poly and Monounsaturated fats, and you wonder where the rest of the fat should be listed.
