    Chickening out.

    Hi all,

I was supposed to start Alli on Thursday but haven't yet.  I have been reading the posts and most of you sound so encouraging. I say to myself, "I am going to start right now". But then I read other posts that sound awful and I don't want to start Alli.  I know eveyone is different and I just need to jump in.  Help!!!!

    Re: Chickening out.

I've been procrastinating as well, and decided that today is the day.  I won't know if it helps til I try, and can always stop if the treatment effects (love the euphamism for side effects) are too unpleasant.  Jump in with me, and we can do this together.

    Re: Chickening out.

Hi Debbie....I was the same way, my starter pack sat on my kitchen counter for 2 weeks and I kept putting it off until finally on July 5th I just did it, even after eating alot of junk on the 4th. I took my first pill with dinner on Thursday night(knowing I had 3 days at home in case of a problem). I am very careful of my fat grams...in fact I'm sure I'm not eating enough fat. So far no problems:) I think is the one thing that will work for me because I am scared to go off the plan for fear of a "treatment effect". Good luck to you!!!

    Re: Chickening out.

I have been on Alli since it was put on the shelves about going on 3 weeks. I have had no problem other than constipation which is exactly opposite of my usual self.  But found I was limiting fat too much....*really*!  Also started taking a fiber supplement....and also my diet has quite a lot of fiber.

I have had no side effects except for sometimes, since I was looking, Lol...a slight glaze on the surface of the water and a couple times a few pin head size orange oil dots.

BUT....I stay well below the 19 grams of fat, my suggested limit.  Usually about 2-4 gms of fat for breakfast and don't take the pill for that.  then I have about 12 gms fat with each meal and maybe 3  gms as evening snack.

Just try it....if you don't go over the fat you will be fine!  Really!  :D

    Re: Chickening out.

You can do it. If you are nervous make sure to start your LowFat diet before for a few days to get used to it. I have been on 2 weeks with no TE's. I just really watch what I eat.

    Re: Chickening out.

I've only been on it for two days now and lost three lbs. already.  I do have TE when I use the bathroom but nothing uncontrollable or unmanegable.  Some people don't experience any, I did have pizza the night before so that could be why.  Choose a day when you'll be home, it stays in your system for 24-48 hrs. to see how you'll react.  You won't know how your body will react until you try. Start out with a meal low in fat first to see how you react.  You'll always wonder if this could have been it if you don't try!  Good luck guys!

    Re: Chickening out.

    Debbie,

You can do it.  I started on the 15th and have not had a treatment effect at all.  I have went to a picnic and out to dinner.  I just watch my portions and ask the waiter for special meal preparation.  I did go over 15 grams in one meal and had loose bowels but nothing bad.  Just drink plenty of water, stick to your calorie and fat in take!

    Good Luck!

    Re: Chickening out.

    Hi Debbie,

Please don't be afraid! I have been taking Alli for three weeks. The treatment effects have been minor! If you stick to the 15 grams of fat, you probably won't have any problems at all!

    Good luck!

    Re: Chickening out.

     Debbie-

I just started about an hour ago.  I made my breakfast and took my first pill.  I am terrified of the side effects also.  I mean working 40+ hours a week in a very professional and very large Fortune rated company dosent make me want to have to run for the bathroom every five minutes.  But I think this is what will keep me on track.  All we have to do is jump....  If the water is cold you can still get out but what if.... What if it really works? Im going to post the end of tonight and say how my day was.  Maybe you'll check in and just Maybe you will be done with your first day and tell me all about it :)

    Re: Chickening out.

    Hey Debbie,

We are all in the same boat here...welcome! I too was scared. I followed the plan recomendation and started my low fat diet 4 days before (I believe it suggests 3) but I too was worried. I am now on the plan over a week and have had no treatment effects. I (who couldnt drop even a lb lost 4 lbs so far and I am very satisfied).

The larger paperback book is an excellent purchase, I use mine all the time, I also recomend that.

    I say go for it!

    Re: Chickening out.

Thank you all for your support.  I took my first Alli at lunch today at a resturant.  I had a grilled chicken *** sandwich (no mayo) and salad (very little dressing) and ice tea.  I think I did pretty good.  We will see.  I will check in later and let you know about dinner.

    p.s.  What big book?

    Re: Chickening out.

Just do it!  I was scared too, and had it on my shelf for 2 weeks, but Sunday night, I got in bed, read all the booklets, and, in my own mind, kind of went into it 'kicking and screaming' mentally, which usually causes me to give up on a diet in a day or two, but something very different happened....

The next morning, I got up, had my coffee, chose a low-fat breakfast, took my first pill, and I've been 'scared straight' about the TEs... so I've been behaving as if I've got a dietician watching my every move!!!  I've had no TE's save a small amount during my morning BM after the 4th of July, where I ate fairly healthy, but did sneak a baby-back rib (well, two.).  Nothing earth-shattering though, but enough to show me it works!

I weigh in next Monday, but a sneak peek at the scale today showed a 5-6 lb weight loss already!!!  In less than one week!!

    Re: Chickening out.

Deb - I started on Thursday after chickening out for nearly three weeks and I must say it has been remarkably easy for me.  Someone else mentioned the larger book that is available and it is EXCELLENT - it really does fill in some additional blanks and explains the program a bit more than just being told - "eat low fat".

In the two days - so far so good.  I do tend to diet with an 'all or nothing' mentality so I keep worrying about eating enough fat when the percentage goes all the way to 30% - I've read that that is when alli is working at its best  - I keep thinking why eat more fat just to keep more from being stored - hhmmmmmmmmmm -

Drink tons of water - stay below the total daily fat grams (evenly spread out through the day) and just take the leap of faith.

    K
