Re: Any 20 somethings starting Alli?

I am 29, uner 200# but haven't weighed this much since I had my son, who is now 10 yrs. old. I can't use the baby fat excuse anymore. I am a nurse and it's true that I don't take care of myself. I had back surgery about a year ago and gained probably 20#. I was going to the gym and started to get toned again but then I started working. I don't want to be skinny minnie but I would love to get out of a 16 and get back in to a 10, 12's even. I would also love to sit down and not feel my tummy on my legs. That's such an awful feeling. Who wants to go around holding their breath all of the time from sucking in your stomach so hard? Not me!  My biggest fear is that I am going to have TE's while out with friends! I have an upset stomach all of the time anyways...but dear God please don't let me shart! Hee hee!

Re: Any 20 somethings starting Alli?

I'm 23, started Alli 8 days ago at 185 lbs. Yesterday I weighed in at 178. 7 lbs in one week - I was floored. My first 5% goal is 176, so I am really happy with my progress.  I am really proud of myself for being so good. I have been eating right, staying at about 1600 calories per day and staying well within my fat grams. I have had minimal TE's, maybe once after a sandwich that may have had too much swiss cheese on it (I let the b/f order... always order for yourself!) I have also been to the gym everyday for the last 2 weeks or so.. before I started Alli I was going a few times a week, so now that the fat is melting away, the muscle that I have built up under there is starting to show through... very encouraging! My clothes fit better, belts and bras included, and I notice a difference in my face, stomach, hips/thighs and butt. My b/f notices it too. I even went out and purchased a yoga mat and a measuring tape, as I am really looking to tone my body as well as lose weight.

Taking good care of my body has made me feel better about myself. My hair and skin seems to be healthier this week than last as well. Plus 7 lbs aint no slouch! Alli really works as long as you are committed to the change. Its not a mircale pill and it is meant to be combined with diet and exercise. Keep up the hard work and you will see results!

Re: Any 20 somethings starting Alli?

    Hey all...

I just turned 21 and I think this is going to be my year.  I started alli the week before my birthday, and it's been pretty good since.  I'm 5'4 and started at 201 lbs.  I've been on alli for about 7 weeks now and have only lost 5 lbs, but I had 2 really bad weeks, but I've recovered well.

If anyone's looking for a really FUN workout dvd, I HIGHLY recommend the Yoga Booty Ballet set, especially the Hip Hop Abs, Cardio Cabaret, and Latin ones.  They're actually a fun mix of dance, yoga, and ballet...FUN CARDIO, this coming from a girl who doesn't like to sweat!  I just found them again this weekend (I bought them back in December but quit doing them when I stopped doing their diet...it wasn't practical for a college girl who's always doing something.), and I remembered how much I LOVE them!

Also, if anyone's on MySpace, another girl started a group called "The Alli Girls" which is mostly 20-somethings.  Search for us...we'd love to have you!

    Good luck!
    Kimberly

Re: Any 20 somethings starting Alli?

Oh...and did I mention that I also have a skinny best friend?!  She ordered her wedding dress recently and was a perfect size 4.  She confided in me the other day about being fat...well, she didn't call herself fat, exactly...the words were something along the lines of, "I mean, I'm not huge or anything, but I am curvy."  I wanted to smack some sense into her, but decided that's not being supportive.  I just compared myself to her, which didn't make either of us feel very good.

Actually, I'm going to have to tell her about my being on alli soon (I haven't shared it with anyone except my mom, and that was only because she's the one with the Sam's Club membership) because it's about time to get fitted for that damn bridesmaid dress.  It's a pretty dress and all, but my goal is to lose about 29 more lbs before the wedding in June!  Speaking of, does anyone know what they do if you lose a bunch of weight and then have to have the dress altered?!

Hey all, I'm Leah from Atlanta.  I'm 27 and 270, 6'1.  I'm trying to get down below 200.

I've had to get a dress altered before.  They can always take out the material, but they can't add more.  My sister just had one altered for a wedding this summer.  It took 2 weeks from the time she took it in until she got it back ready for the wedding.  I would take it over for the alteration about a month or 6 weeks before the wedding.  It really isn't a huge deal to turn a 14 into a 10.

You don't have to tell your friend about alli, you could just tell her that you are making lifestyle changes.  Good luck on being the hottest thing at the wedding!

Re: Any 20 somethings starting Alli?

Hey Ladies! I'm Alicia from Las Vegas. I recently turned 23 and decided to giva Alli a shot. I'm 5'3 and was 184 pounds on Monday. In five days I've lost 2 pounds which isnt much but its something. ..I'm on the 19grams of fat and 1800 cal plan. I'm doing well. I went to the gym three days this week, working out on the eliptical for thirty minutes and lifting weights for twenty. I haven't experienced any TE's thus far. I do get hunger pains but I just grab a rice cake or some pretzels. My goal is to be 150 pounds. I absolutely love Lean Cuisine! they are so convenient and taste great! The chicken Alfredo is the best. Good luck girls! We can do it!

Thanks for the info!  That sounds like what I'll probably be doing...I hope, I hope, I hope!  I just told my friend that I'm trying to lose weight, not just for the wedding, but in general.  She said as long as the dresses are ordered by like Halloween, it should be fine.  I'm glad she knows so I don't have to keep having the same discussion about getting measured for the dress.  Also, she suggested ordering a size smaller to start with since the wedding will still be a few months away when I do get measured...  Is this a good idea or setting myself up for a problem?

Re: Any 20 somethings starting Alli?

Hi! I just turned 25, and I started the Alli program, on the 4th of July. I weighed 168 and currently now weigh 143. I use to be 104 before I got pregnant and weighed at a whooping 198, I am only 5"1. But I am getting there. My goal weight is 120, so I got about 20 more lbs to go. Good luck to everyone on this ALli program. It works. DOn't give up!!!

Re: Any 20 somethings starting Alli?

Lauren, how did it go? I'm about to start it (02/09/08), and like you I'm 5'4 and 140 lbs. The last 20 of those pounds have crept on in the last 2 years. I, too, just want to fit into my clothes again and ditch the elastic waists. Were you able to reach your goals? I exercise a lot-- running, riding, and weight training most days of the week, though I guess I can pump up the intensity. My biggest problem is that I'm a secret binger. I eat clean most of the time, and then WHAM there goes the junk food down the hatch. The plan is that the fear of "treatment effects" will keep me from binging. Let me know how it worked out!

Re: Any 20 somethings starting Alli?

Hello Everyone. I am 29 and 5'5 194 pounds. I technically will only be a "twenty something" for another year, and actually started Alli so I would be at my goal weight by the time I turn 30:)  So then I won't be in your group anymore:( LOL anyhow, still in my twenties now and can definetly relate to everyone's struggle with friends that are skinny.

My sister is my best friend and she is about 130 pounds had a baby and still 130 pounds and has the never to complain about this little belly she has. Paleeeeeeeeeesem, she has no idea! But its great to come here and have so much support from others that know exactly what I am going through. Good luck everyone.

Re: Any 20 somethings starting Alli?

Hi, I'm 21, 5'0" and 162 lbs. Started out at 167 (my heaviest ever) and just decided it was time to make a change. I was never thin, but never big either until I met my fiance.. Now, my wedding is in the beginning of june and feeling the pressure to look good... not for anyone but my future husband and myself. Also, my mom developed type II diabetes at an older age and i don't want to fall into it as well.

I think being in your 20's makes it hard to lose wieght. My friends don't care about what they eat and drink. So I get the "why are you on a diet?" alot. And my fiance can eat and drink whatever and doesn't gain a pound, it actually seems like he loses some!

The other thing is I don't work much and am currently taking a semester off from school, although I have all the time in the world to exercise, I also have all the time in the world toeat more snacks because they're easily accessible. But so far I'm doing good.

So yeah, it's nice to know people that go through similar struggles.

Re: Any 20 somethings starting Alli?

For another year I am a 20 something.  With my birthday (2/25) closing in that reminder that the big 3-0 is going to be here before I know it I'm going to try harder.  Most of my friends and co-workers weigh more then I do so I look a little silly on a diet.  But I'm trying.  I lost a lot of momentum with emotional eating derailing my diet but I'm honestly under a lot of stress right now.

I know i'm less then my worst weight was.  I know I'm eating healthier, most of the time.  If I could get more exercise in that would be better yet.  Trying to focus on the small victories is helping rather then looking at everything so critically.  I'm good at doing that.

The stress isn't getting any better and I need to just let it go with exercise or scrubbing the house top to bottom, rather then hitting the comfort foods.  It's hard to break that habit though.  Overeating doesn't help either.  I'll get over that hurdle eventually though.  I know I can.  Started off so well and I've slipped a lot.  i know I can get it back with the support here.

I think that's one of the best things....knowing that you're not the only one out there.
