57 year old grandmother needs some support

I just started about a week ago.   I'm not doing all that well.  I'm having a hard time sticking with it.  I'd like some on line buddies to chat with.  I've had no bad side affects but I don't always take the pill like I should and I certainly am not eating all that healthy.

Re: 57 year old grandmother needs some support

    Good morning, Jeanie!

I am a 55 year old grandmother and just started about a week ago also.  My first check-in day is Friday, 7/13.  Are you logging your meals?  I read on the message board that if you forget to take your pill, you have an hour after the meal to get it in...if I haven't remembered before, usually the first few bites of food remind me, but I did forget once and then took it after I was finished eating.  Don't feel badly...it's the first week and the routine will take awhile.  I have 50 pounds to lose and have battled weight all my life.  I like logging my meals and exercise daily, it's keeping me on track.  I'd love to see huge results, but I have lived in this body for 55 years and I know better than that, it's like chipping away at cement with a toothpick.  But I feel in control and know that getting back to my walking and choosing healthy eating habits this past week has made me feel better about myself, no matter what the scale says.  Good luck!

    Hi Jeanie,

I too am a grandmother and live in IL.  I am having a hard time as well, same as with any "diet" I try to follow.  I just love to eat too much, but I have got to do something about this weight.  I would love to keep in contact via this board or email, whichever you prefer and hopefully we can motivate one another.

    HAPPY LOSING!
    Martha

Re: 57 year old grandmother needs some support

hi - i am also a grandmother (56 years old) - one of my main motivations is my grandkids - 3 and 4 year old girls! i take care of them alot during the week and found out it takes alot of stamina! we are fortunate enough to have a pool (my main exercise) and they love to swim and watch their grandmama do my tricks (walking on my hands etc...) i want to be able to keep on doing all kinds of things with them besides baking cupcakes and such! we still do that but since starting alli i have not even been tempted - if you look for alternatives for sweets and things you will be surprised how many great things you can find that are really good - i am cooking with alot of fresh vegs and keeping everything simple but good! check out oprah's website for bob greenes best life diet tips - i found some good stuff on there - i take my alli with all three meals regardless of reaching my total fat grams or not - i feel like it keeps me on track if nothing else - i keep grapes and things like that to snack on but i do still have my dessert at night! i feel like not depriving yourself of all things will keep you motivated and more in line for no more failures! i have been fighting my weight all my adult life and this has been the absolute best for me - i have lost about 12 lbs so far and my family and freinds are all amazed with my changed mindset - you can do this - it is really easy when you realize that you don't have to give up so much of the things you do like (and i will say again there are some great alternatives out there - just take the time to do some research) - i have tried so many different diets that restrict you from so much that i would go CRAZY when i stopped them - gain all back and them some!!!!! hope this helps and if you would like to know more of what some of my typical menus are like let me know!!!! GOOD LUCK - cathy

Re: 57 year old grandmother needs some support

Hello, grandmothers!  It does my heart good to see other women my age on this board.  I am a 56-year-old grandmother of 10! (including steps)  I just started the plan last week and have lost 3 pounds.  I'm hoping that I can stay motivated to really do this. It sure is hard to lose weight at our age.  I own an elliptical trainer, and I recently boosted my time from 30 to 60 minutes every other day.  I'm thinking about weight training on my off days. Do any of you use weights and how has it helped?

My favorite snack in the afternoon is a small apple and  caramel rice snacks. It's like eating a caramel apple except that it's only about 120 calories and 0 fat grams!   It satisfies me and keeps me away from the chocolate bars that always seem to call my name. (Chocolate and potato chips used to be my nemesis.)

Good luck to all of us!

Re: 57 year old grandmother needs some support

Hi, I'm Deb. 51yr old gr. mother of 9 gr. kids. Have my oldest gr. daughter visiting me now. She is 13.

I'm very excited about Alli. I started on July 4th and in 5 days, I'm down 4lbs. I'm eating three good meals a day and a snack in evening. I've had no ill effects so far, and since lots of things make me queasy, thats a big plus. I have a lot of weight to lose and I am so hoping that this can be my miracle. I'm so sick of always being the fattest person in the room. Yesterday, we went to visit some friends at their summer cottage and we were all sitting down by the lake, I could feel my chair legs sinking in the sand and hoping they would stop before they totally dissapeared. I always make a joke and everyone laughs, I'm the funny fat one, and I guess I don't mind, but boy,  what I would give to be the skinny, sexy one....ha ha. Just Once!

I'm going to give it my best shot. Would love to have some partners along the way. All of my friends are thin, my best friend is a twig. I'm doing this for me and to be healthy. Good luck to us all.

    Deb.

    Hey Jeanie,

Just checking on you...how are you doing?  At my first check-in last Friday, I was down 2 pounds, which after 12 days of alli I did not find monumental, but, at least it was the right direction.  Is is getting any easier for you?  Let us know how you are doing...

    Susi
