goodkarma:Hi Santafean, I'm in Albuquerque and saw your post. I'm 45, have an 8-year-old and want to lose 20 lbs. I've been eating low fat for three days and the unopened pills are still on my counter. Do you think you're losing the weight from eating low fat, or do you honestly think the Alli pills are making a difference? Thanks and best of luck toyou. goodkarma
Hi goodkarma,
I live in Santa Fe (as the name suggests). That' s a good question. I think that alli is helping. It certainly isn't hurting my weight loss efforts. I am being more careful and much more moderate because I don't want to have a TE -- and for that I'm grateful. It's keeping me accountable and much more aware of what I'm putting into my mouth (especially where fat grams are concerned). When I think of actually how much fat I'm excreting (excuse the phrasing) it can't be very much in terms of calories but the way I look at it is -- atleast it's something. And truthfully I need all of the help I can get.
I started on July 5th at 145.5 lbs. I am 5'5" and I am most comfortable when I am between 125 and 130. About two weeks ago I weighed 143 lbs (the last time I checked) and haven't checked the scale lately because I'm doing really well and if I haven't broken into the 130's then I'll be upset and it will discourage me. I don't want to deal with that so I'm just going on my merry way and doing well with food and exercise and one of these days when I have the nerve I'll check the scale again. I just need to see some real success (on the scale) when I do step on.
So, if you want an opinion -- I say try the alli. You can always stop taking it but I think it could be a help to you. It certainly is not a magic pill (although I do wish that it was) but it is something that I am finding helpful in conjunction with other things. I guess it reinforces good behavior on my part.
Feel free to keep in contact,
Beth
