Re: I would like to have a penpal as well!

Hi Susan, Patty and Deb and anyone else out there!

Vacation in Seaside, OR was nice.  We couldn't have asked for better weather really for along the coast.  I told the fam that if we had just one great day for beach stuff and so on that would be good and we'd take it.  It was totally sunny and warm on Sat. and the beach was full of people and the promenade etc. etc.  Sun. was party sunny/partly cloudy but very windy (great for kite flying!), Mon. partly cloudy/partly sunny again with less wind so that was a bit nicer.

Did okay eating not the greatest but not really bad either.  Was so busy yesterday with school starting and my daughter not going to kindergarten until 12:45 until 3:00 and had a parent with and then she doesn't go today but goes tomorrow (fri) from 9:25 am-1:00 with no parent and we pick them up at 1:00 and if they ride the bus they can do so in the am.  She still says she's riding the bus on Fri. morning.  She gets on about 8:35 am and gets to school about 9:05/9:10 and then waits on benches by the kindergarten building until 9:15 am when the first bell rings.  I'm nervous for her since she doesn't know anyone who rides our bus.  And since I do not like our bus driver if she gets on in the morning, then I'm driving to the school and watching and see how she does getting off and finding her kindergarten building.  It usually isn't very hard but our elementary school has had and is having structural issues.  The main building which housed the office, staff room, principals office, 2 first grade classrooms, 1 2nd grade classroom, a music room, the library and some misc. classes for special help with reading etc. was built in like 1938 and they new it had gotten some damage with last winters storms and even a couple of years ago.  But the do their quick fixes and then this summer went in and found out that building of the school has dry-rot throughout and is not structurally safe earthquake wise.  So that building was condemned and they have brought in 4 portables and they are still in the process of getting all the portables set up and so on.  It's a HUGE mess and to top it off our principal this year is new it's his first year as our last one retired at the end of last school year!  Everyone is trying to be in good spirits about it all and trying to help others and help teachers deal with moving stuff and office stuff and so on.  So anyway the point is there is all this roped off area with fencing so kids do not go in the condemned building and then close to the bus lanes and the kindergarten building is a portable going in and so it's like a little maze and I don't think my daughter really understands how many kids will be on the bus and how it's kinda crazy getting off with all these kids and other buses coming in etc. etc.  So yes I'm going to be protective and make sure she finds her way to the benches by the kindergarten room.  But I'm not telling her I'll be there and I'll watch and if she needs help I'll step in.

Okay so now the problem is that since being gone and waiting for my husband to get his paycheck this week we have basically no food in the house.  So I'll be starting Alli either on Sat. or Sun. probably on Sun. though and then keeping with it until Sept. 21st.  Then I'm resting for a few days before my surgery on the 25th and then we'll go from there.  I didn't gain anything on our trip, but I think I have figured out the stall in weight loss.  Well at least for me . . . .STRESS!  I've become very stressed over the past say 10 years and I have a hard time keeping it at bay and dealing with it.  So I think I need to make more relaxing time for me and ends day and do a little something for just me even once a week visiting a friend, going to the mall just to walk and window shop little things like that which don't really cost anything but gets me out of the house some and to have some mommy down time.

Hubby gets paid today so I'll probably make lists today and shop on Fri. while my daughter is at school in the morning.  If I could lose another 5-10 lbs. between the 9th and the 21st well I'll weigh on the 9th in the am and then weigh again on the 22nd in the am I would be happy.  So over the course of 13 days and it is more realistic to shoot for the 5 lb. loss so that is what I'll do and I need to up my exercise a bit more.

Susan, I live north of Seattle.  Actually I'm only about 20 min. south of the Canadian Border.  So 20 min. south of border and about 2 hours north of Seattle maybe a little less.  We went to Newport a couple of years ago with the kids over Memorial Day Weekend and then went up to Tillamook for a night then Seaside for 5 nights, but stayed in Newport first for 2 nights and took the kids to the aquarium and went on a scenic drive etc. very pretty down there.

Okay so I might not come back on until the weekend.  Have lots to finish up today and then a Dr. appt. and then stuff going on tonight too.  I'm pooped already and it's only 8:30!  haha

Oh Patty how is the newborn doing?  How are you doing with having him in the fam. now and what do the other kids think?  Wow 9 kids now you are fostering well now you have at least one that is yours right?  Maybe more?  How many foster kids could you have at one time total?  How long do you have them on average?  Do any ever get to go back to their parents?  I don't know anyone who is a foster parent so it all intrigues me and I certainly applaud you!

Hope all is well with everyone.  Take care and keep doing what you can.  Slow and steady wins the race they say.  Keep in mind that when we read some of these huge amount losses in little time that they probably started out at a very high weight and have alot more to lose and so of course it'll come off quicker for them but we can still do this too.  pound by pound we'll get healthier!

Re: I would like to have a penpal as well!

    hi sam,

glad you had a nice trip.  just a thought i read on another board that this lady that was having surgery was told by her dr. to go off the alli for 2wks prior to surgery. have you asked your dr. if you need to have it all the way out of your system( i know they do that on some other meds too)i would love for you to be able to send you mail direct, if your interested let me know,    the baby is the "perfect baby"  but in reality will have all kinds of issues, (he barely stays awake long enough to eat) he tested possitve for 2 different drugs + alchol, so he's going to have a lot of issue, but is adoreable.  i have 4 birth sons, 2 adopted girls ,2 i'm in the process of adopting, the baby and a teenager who's a foster child. i've been stressing out too and i know that does affect your weight loss. before i was reading and doing some yoga streches before bed. but i've been too busy. well the kids are fussing so i better go . hope everyone is doing well! take care, patty

Re: I would like to have a penpal as well!

     Dear Patty:

Yeah I'm not going back on Alli actually until about 4 weeks after my surgery.  And the other meds I'm on is okay.  Only 1 is prescription and the other 2 are iron and my multi-vitamin plus the birth control I've been on so that is another prescription but that one will be over with soon!

I just had my pre-op Dr. appt. with my gynecologist who'll be doing the surgery so it was good to find things out etc.  I go for my hospital pre-op appt. on the 17th and then surgery the 25th.  I just don't want extra meds, pills whatever in my system that could cause problems so I actually haven't taken any Alli since right before our Labor Day vacation so they said I should be just fine.

I'm just going to watch what I eat and eat like I'm on the Alli but just not take it.  Since things have been hectic and now for the next 2 weeks before surgery I have a some church projects to do so I just bought some Lean Cuisine meals to have on days that I'm in a rush for breakfast and lunch and then if the family is having a not so great meal for dinner that I shouldn't be eating like tuna casserole or something like that then I'll have a lean cuisine then and just add extra fruit and veggies and should be good to go.

Okay so some of the fosters have turned into adoptive ones for you!  So neat!  Yes how could we do mail more direct?  How big was the baby when he was born?  So if he tested positive for 2 different drugs and alcohol how much of a time frame is it approximately for it to get out of his little system and when would they find out about brain damage and those kinds of things?  What do all the other kids think about having a newborn in the house?  I'm sure he gets lots of love and attention.  Your family sounds amazing.

That darn stress!  Well tomorrow I'm going to start eating well again and making sure I get all my multi-vitamin in and iron in and then the weather is suppose to be just gorgeous for the next week and maybe into the next here in the northwest so I'm for sure getting in walking with my soon to be 4 year old.  He loves to ride his bike with training wheels but he's so darn fast but that is usually due to him trying to keep up with his 2 older brothers.  My daughter stays right with me when she rides when I walk but the others are long gone.  Good thing we don't walk/ride along the road it's in the cemetary across the road that is paved, so it's safer but there is a little curve and a hill that slopes down right at the curve so if he's ahead of me and not paying attention he'll go right over!  But I think with it being just him and I that he'll ride a little slower so he's more with me and we should have fun.  I'm going to try and get in at least 4 times around which equals 2 miles.

Gotta run.  Take it easy and keep doing all that you can.  So I got confused as to why you had to change and like reregister and get a new name for on here etc.  Okay talk to you later.

    Sam

ps hope everyone is doing well and hope all that have kids in school now etc. can get into a good mommy routine of things and work on us for once!  haha

Re: I would like to have a penpal as well!

    hi sam,

the babies never get totally over the drug addiction, and it's very important to teach them to never experiment with drugs when they get older, it's just like a recovering alcholic, one try of the drug that they were born addicted to and they are hooked again. depending on which drug the kids are addicted to, they will usually have learning disablities and behavoir issues. they tend to always be smaller too. fetal alchol is actually worse then the drugs. everyone actually adores the baby. the one twin is very helpful with the baby, he likes to get me diapers and when the baby finishes the bottle he'll grab it and take it in the kitchen.  my twin with all the issues is a little jealous but not too bad since the baby sleeps almost all the time the baby was 6lbs at birth but of course lost some weight, so he's up to 6lbs 3oz now . i sometimes have to wake him up for a feeding. to stay in touch you have to look at the new user name, you should be able to figure it out. when you register your alli purchase they give you so many days depending on the size of the bottle. and since i don't take it all the time with me having problems with my IBS a bottle lasts me a lot longer than it would for most people. took the kids to the park and was able to get in a short walk in addition to teaching my class. so over all a good day. well i need to go mix up some formula, keep walking it will help with the stress and the weight loss.
