I had two slices of brisket, a few bites of creamed spinach and mashed potatoes and a dinner roll. And a couple of chocolate chip cookies for dessert. I felt I 'indulged' in what I wanted, but didnt over do it. I've kept my snacks and dinner low today and still came in at my fat target.

Re: Thanksgiving

sptsimone:

There is no way I'll be able to figure the calories and fat since I'm not the one cooking and I know it will NOT be lowfat. Even a few bites of everything poses a risk. If I'm really concerned about TE's and to quite frank enjoy myself, but not overeating, would it be reasonable to take my pill at breakfast and not again until my last meal of the day?

There are some great tips for the holidays in the "What's New" section (on the left side of the screen); then click on "Articles." Actually, "a few bites" is just the way to approach the Thanksgiving table; and having more white meat (leaner) turkey, a roll or some bread + small portions of the side dishes is a good way to approach it.

One consideration of the timing of capsule is gastrointestinal "transit time" - the time it takes for food to travel through the digestive tract. That varies with everyone. Slow transit time is more likely to create TE's at a following meal, if there is still fat in the stomach or the gut.

Some people have an idea of their transit by the appearance of their bowel movements. Corn, especially, is likely to be seen -- so if it appears the day after eating then transit time is fairly normal; three days later is slow transit time.

Ultimately, the decision is really yours' as to how you want to approach the day. TE's can be somewhat unpredictable so I'm unable to give you a guarantee one way or the other.

Please let me know if you need anything else.

Any suggestions on thanksgiving , recipes, coping mechanisms?

This has come up several times on this message board + personal experiences, so you might try the "search" function at the top right of this page to see those other posts. Congrats to you for thinking ahead!!!

I'm encouraging everyone to stick with the plan, It's really quite liberal and with a little planning it's definitely possible to have smaller portions and enjoy holiday foods. This weekend I worked the Alli booth at the Philadelphia Marathon -- we sponsored the Prevention Walking Team. I talked to a woman who lost 38 pounds so far with Alli (with about 20 to go).

When I asked this very question she said "No problem. I'm doing all the cooking, sticking in low-fat whenever I can, and eating everything." "Let's face it," she said, "the first two mouthfuls are the best, and who needs more after that?"

There will always be holidays, vacations and special events. Hopefully, the Alli Program will help you to cope with them all and still enjoy.

Please let me know if you need anything else.
