And no way I can cook frijoles negros (black beans) w/o sason. Oh Lord help me here, LOL.

but since the Alli-ance has to control fat grams, and limit red meat
consumption, I'm borrowing from the poorer roots of chili, San Antonio
Tex-Mex. This is a quick American style, using dry seasonings instead
of fresh chilies, but you can substitute jalapeños, habañeros or any
kind of fresh chili pepper. I call this chili "bajo" because it is
"Low, Low, Low, Low" just like the hip hop song of the same name. It's
low salt, low fat, and low carbs. I used ground buffalo instead of
ground beef, precisely because it is lower in fat and taste the same,
but you can use extra lean ground beef (90/10 or better), or even
ground venison (yum!).

1/2 lb (8 oz) Maverick Ranch Natural Buffalo 97% Extra Lean Ground Round

3/4 c (6 oz) Hunt's No Salt Added Tomato Sauce (or store brand)

1 1/2 cup (12 oz) Pomi Chopped Tomatoes (or other cartoned chopped tomatoes)

1 can (15 oz) Bush's Reduced Salt Red Kidney Beans (or store brand)

1/2 cup (4 oz) diced yellow onion

1 tbsp minced garlic

1 1/2 tsp Ground Cumin

1/2 cup (4 oz) Sargento Reduced Fat 4 Cheese Mexican Shredded Cheese

Pam, Olivio or any cooking spray

Preheat large skillet or small dutch oven, over medium high heat. ("6" on gas cooktop).

Spray pan with cooking spray.

Begin sauteeing diced onions and minced garlic in pan.

When onions are halfway done, add more cooking spray.

Add
buffalo ground round and sautee until just brown (be careful not to
overcook, buffalo browns faster than beef, and it will simmer
additionally with beans and tomatoes).

Add chopped tomatoes, tomato sauce, Mrs. Dash, cumin and stir.

Rinse kidney beans in a collander with cold water,

Add kidney beans to pan and stir.

Reduce heat to low ("3" on gas cooktop) and simmer for 10 minutes.

Halve and top with shredded cheese.

   *serves 2

**a pinch of salt can be added before cheese, to make chili more savory and bring out flavors.

***an extra teaspoon of Mrs. Dash gives it some real kick & heat your mouth will feel!

Nutrition

I have been on Alli for a week. The meals that I have tried from the recipe list are all tomatoes, green peppers and onion, which is great, but, the food is bland. Where can I get good recipes and stay within 1200 cal a day, 9/9/12 fat ?

My boyfriends mom is hispanic and makes wonderful homemade mexican food. I know that the refried beans are a no-no but she makes pinto beans from scratch cooked in just water and salt. Can I eat that? Where can i find nutritional info on stuff made from scratch? Also she makes carne asada on the bbq, i know its not lean meat but it is very thin, i was thinking that cut up and put into a salad would be ok? Im really looking for a website or something where you can put in the portions and kind of food and they will give you nutritional info- does this exist?
My husband and I ate at our favorite Mexican restaurant last week. I ordered 2 soft steak tacos

no cheese, no guacamole ,no beans ,no sour cream. I had an order of rice and only ate half..I know when they cook they don't watch the amt of oil they use to cook in...The meat was very lean I checked it out before I ate it... I did have about a half doz chips and that is good for me cause usually I eat a whole basket...But I had treatment effects for 2 days...Should I just stay away from Mexican food or just not take the pill when I have it...I still lost 2 lbs this week and i don't really want to stop eating the things I like.. just cutting back on portion size has helped a great deal and I'm not feeling so deprived....

Low Fat Whole Wheat Tortillas

I am really craving bread. My BIG weakness. Does anyone know if lowfat tortillas are a good substitute for a slice of bread on a sandwich??
