    Too few fat grams

I am currently eating a low fat diet.  MyAlliPlan recommends I eat 19 fat grams per meal and a 3 fat gram snack.  I feel like I am forcing myself to eat that many because I typically only eat 10-15 per meal.  By their recommenation I am concerned I will not lose.  Will Alli work for me or will I experience "treatment effects" if I am not eating all of my fat grams?

    Re: Too few fat grams

I have the same concern and am unsure of the answer.  I am on weight watchers now, so I dont eat alot of fat but like you I am supposed to eat 19 grams per meal.  I hope that adding this to my current plan will reap benefits.

Can someone help us to answer this important question???

    Re: Too few fat grams

I'd like to know as well.  I only have 10 pounds to lose and I've been doing low fat for awhile.  I just wanted an extra boost for these last hard to lose ones.

I am in the same boat that you are in!  It is hard to add fat grams to my days.  I was nervous to even start.  However, my low-fat diet has afforded me no treatment effects so far!

I agree with you!  It is hard to add fat grams to my diet.  However, my low-fat diet has afforded me "0" treatment effects so far!

    Re: Too few fat grams

I've been wondering this myself. and have the same numbers - the 19f grams per meal and only about 10 fg now. I haven't started alli pills yet, just the lowfat portion, but am re-evaluating my menu options and what I can eat (I'm also going through some dental work so biting is not an option)...

Anyway, just wanted to let know you that you've got company in your boat.

    Re: Too few fat grams

I also have this question.  Many of my meals are 7-10 grams.  I'm not sure about it yet, but from what I've read, we don't have to eat all the fat grams we're allowed.  Just don't take a pill if there's no fat in the meal.  Also from what I've read, "treatment effects" only seem to occur if we go over the max. recommended fat grams at a meal.

    Re: Too few fat grams

You should only experience treatment effects if you eat more  then the 19 grams per meal. Its a maximum not your minimum.

The whole idea is to eat less fat so you can loose weight. If your eating 10 to 15 grams of fat per meal then the Alli pill will work at preventing the absorption of approx. 25 % of those fat grams. If you sometimes only eat 6 grams of fat the Alli pill will prevent the absorption of approx. 25% of those. Same for if you do sometimes eat the whole 19 grams in a meal. If you take the pill as directed, it will prevent the absorption of approx. 25% of those.

The main thing is not to eat more then your target fat grams.

I hope that makes it a little clearer.

    Re: Too few fat grams

Personally, I don't think that anyone can really do too few fat grams.  If we did, we would all be skinny minis already, LOL!

But think about it.  This morning I had my egg white omlete with 1/2 ounce very lean ham and 1 tsp. of Lt. Butter.  That still is about 5 fat grams even though it was practically "fat free".  So with the Alli, it took away 2.5 of those fat grams which is better than nothing.

For lunch I will have Turkey *** on lt. wheat bread with mustard.  That is about 10 grams of fat believe it or not.  And I thought that I was eating fat free the 2 years that I have been on Weight Watchers and I am not really.

So go over your diet and see if you truly are "fat free".  You may see that you are not, which is good! Low fat (olive oil, canola oil, fish oil) is really best.  And if you are "fat free" and not losing, then the fat free products you are consuming might have lots of sugar for flavor which is NOT good!

You're better off getting your calories from "good fat" then from sugar loaded fat free products.

    Re: Too few fat grams

I bought the alli diet plan book. In there it gives u a meal paln to follow. You can choose between 1200 cals, 1500 cals and 1800 cals. This way you konw that you are getting the correct amount of fat and cals.

    Re: Too few fat grams

You get treatment effects if you eat too much fat! Not if you eat too little!

The reason we are overweight is because we eat to much fat in our diet.

Don't eat more fat!!!!!!!!!! The 19 grams or 15 or 12, whatever yours is, is a maximum not to go over! not something you have to eat.

Its great that your eating less. You are more likely to lose weight and not experience those nasty treatment effects! Alli will still work on the fat you do eat.

    Hope this clears things up!

    Re: Too few fat grams

It will still work for you.  The reccomendation of 19 grams is the maximum amount of fat per meal that you can eat to lose weight.  Of course you can eat less than that.  Alli will take away 25 % of the fat you DO consume.  Do not eat more fat thinking that you will lose more weight - that is not how Alli works.  Hope this helps : )
