Re: **READ FIRST:Why you need fat to reach your fat goal by Betty Kovacs

    Hello Betty,

I just read this post and tears came to my eyes.... IT's NOT ME!!!  I thought I was doing something wrong.  I know I can lose this weight and I know ALLI is what is going to help me meet my goals.   I am at the end of my 3rd week using ALLI and feeling lost.... or at least I was.  I having been having trouble making my fat intake, but that also explains why I have not been seeing the results I was expecting (not even one pound).

I am going to sit down and make a new menu for myself and hope that works.   Thank you for your knowledge and sharing it with all of us. You are my angel!!

    Hi Luppercue,

You can use olive oil, peanut butter, 1 egg yolk with egg whites, and peanut butter for fat. You will find fat in the meat that you consume as well. Here are some other sources of healthy fat:

Flaxseeds: 1 Tbsp has 37 calories and 3 grams of fat - you can sprinkle this on your salad, yogurt, cereal, oatmeal, and rice.

English Walnut halves: 14 halves (1 oz) has 185 calories and 18.5 grams of fat- you can have them on the side with your meal or add them to your food (salad, yogurt, cereals)

Almonds: 23 whole kernels (1 oz) have 164 calories and 14.4 grams of fat - you can have them on the side with your meal or add them to your food (salad, yogurt, cereals)

Avocado: ½ cup sliced has 117 calories and 10.7 grams of fat - you can use this in place of mayonnaise on sandwiches or add it to your salad. Here are more ideas http://www.avocado.org/.

Salmon: 3 oz has 175 calories and 10.5 grams of fat

Black Olives: 1 oz black olives has 66 calories and 5.7 grams of fat

Green Olives: 1 oz green olives has 41 calories and 4.4 grams of fat

Mackerel: 3 oz has 223 calories and 15.1 grams of fat

Let me know if you have any other questions,

    Hi 7d11a,

Yes, you can use alli with WW. There are numerous posts on here by people who have combined the two. You can find them by using the search command on the upper right corner.

I wish you lots of success,

    Betty Kovacs, MS, RD

    Hi Mom2AllBoys,

I am very fortunate to have a job where I get to help people understand how to change their lives. This is absolutely the career that I would choose if I could do whatever I wanted to.

I am very happy to hear that this post helped you. I understand the fear of not being able to succeed. As long as you are willing to ask for help I will do everything that I can to help.

Keep me posted on how things are going,

    Betty Kovacs, MS, RD

Re: **READ FIRST:Why you need fat to reach your fat goal by Betty Kovacs

     This is interesting...

I am following the 1400 calorie plan and am allowed 48 grams of fat a day. I have not exceeded 30 and felt this was a good thing, but if I understand what you are saying, I should be closer to the 48 grams?

I have had no treatment effects and that has been a good thing. I am concerned if I eat more fat that I will experience them.

     Have a great day!

My question is what are some of the possible health problems you said could be a result of not eating enough fat in our diets? I have a problem eating much fats and I'd like to know if there are any serious health effects from too little fat.

    Tank you!

    Hi BlondieB,

Yes, you want to reach 48 grams of fat per day. As long as you do not go above 20 grams in one meal you do not have to worry about treatment effects. It's really worth the effort to learn how to balance your diet.

Give it a try and let me know how it goes,

Re: **READ FIRST:Why you need fat to reach your fat goal by Betty Kovacs

    Hi Renee1956,

The problem with dietary fat is that people have heard so much about the negative consequences of saturated and trans fat that they assume that all fat is bad. Fat is an essential nutrient and it is just as important as carbohydrates and protein. The key is to consume mono and polyunsaturated fats.

Here are some great articles on dietary fat:

    http://www.ific.org/nutrition/fats/index.cfm

    http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/fat/NU00262

    http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/dietaryfats.html

Take a look at those and let me know if you have any other questions,

    Betty Kovacs, MS, RD

Hi Betty, I just started using Alli as I have gained 25lbs in the last few months.  During that time I ate fast food and desserts everyday and quit going to the gym altogether.  Prior to my backsliding I worked out 5 times a week and followed a bodybuilder's type diet.  My protein intake is quite higher than what the diet plan recommends will this affect my fat loss?

Re: **READ FIRST:Why you need fat to reach your fat goal by Betty Kovacs

    Hi Rodhicks,

Weight loss requires that you consume fewer calories than your body needs. Your body requires a balance of protein, carbohydrates, and fat with the correct number of calories. This means that your protein intake won't impact your weight loss if your calorie level is correct, but it can negatively impact your health if you are not consuming an adequate amount of carbohydrates and fat.

Let me know if you have any other questions,

    Betty Kovacs, MS, RD

Re: **READ FIRST:Why you need fat to reach your fat goal by Betty Kovacs

    Hi Betty,

I am a firm believer in needing fat.  Tonight I fell really sick and after thinking, I realized it's because I am not getting any fat into my diet.  The only fat I'm getting is from white rice.  The milk in the fridge is fat free, my cheese is fat free, etc...  I am going to eat a batch of French fries and if I feel better, I know I was right.

    I'm also a vegetarian.

Re: **READ FIRST:Why you need fat to reach your fat goal by Betty Kovacs

This is a great explanation. I am having trouble eating the fat grams recommended for breakfast. Oatmeal and skim milk with raisins doesn't provide alot. I am adding toast with peanut butter and that is making a difference. I love this approach to losing weight! I know that I am eating a more balanced diet and I like feeling full instead of feeling deprived. Unfortunately, the mother of one of my students gave me a box of chocolates for Valentine's Day. Four pieces=12 grams of fat. wow! I ate my four pieces through the day and then gave the box to my 17 year old stick thin son. No more problem! Needless to say the chocolate is now gone. On another note, I work with a lady who is obsessed with eliminating sugar from her diet. She bakes cakes, etc (for a side business) and brought cupcakes in yesterday made from a new recipe that had half the sugar in it but when I asked if she used egg whites instead of whole eggs she said no, the recipe called for 3 eggs. I passed on the cupcakes. I like looking at the alli meal plans and tweeking them to fit me and I am not making separate food for my family than I am for myself. It is great! I am eating healthier and so are they. rambling again. Thanks for your advice and inspiration.
