Re: Top 10 List: Favorite snacks to grab and go!

    1. Edamame (Whole soybeans. Buy them frozen then parboil and SALT well after draining. To eat: put the whole pod in your mouth then pull out while dragging the soybeans out with your teeth so you can taste the salt.)

    2. Nori (dried seaweed) wrapped around steamed rice

    3. Sushi (veggie roll, or any roll without cream cheese or fried stuff in it--no spider rolls)

    4. summer rolls (ask me for the recipe if you want it)

    5. Lightly-steamed cold broccolli with lemon

    6. turkey jerky

    7. english muffin with tomatoes and low-fat sharp cheese

    8. Apple or pear slices with paper-thin slices of parmesean cheese

    9. PINK STUFF: LF cottage cheese with chopped tomatoes and salt/pepper

    10. Toast or a half bagel sprinkled with asiago cheese (full-fat but full of flavor so you use less)

    a few extras:

    11. Cucumbers or celery (or any veggie you like) steeped in vinegar
     and a little salt

    12. Taco seasoning on popcorn or veggies

    13. Mix fat-free cream cheese with splenda or any sweetener you like and spread on vanilla wafers or graham crackers for a cheesecake-like experience

Roasted chickpeas sound great. Care to share your recipe? I just bought two cans yesterday and thought I would just add them to salads, but I haven't been in a salad mood lately.

Nevermind. I found it after I read down some more, and I already have some in the oven. And I was surprised to find that my fiance actually likes Chickpeas (I never knew!).

Re: Top 10 List: Favorite snacks to grab and go!

    MYTWOCENTS:

I love my snacks and would not make it through the day without them!

Here's my top 10 - all easy to grab and go!

    1. Pretzel nuggets: Low fat, low calorie and filling. Prebag them so they are in the right quantities. I can eat 16 of these with NO fat and only 100 calories!
    2. Popcorn: I buy the 100 calorie bags. I can eat all of it if I want and no guilt. It's very filling.
    3. Frozen Fruit Bars: I love the Edy's frozen fruit bars. The orange one tastes just like a creamsicle! 80 calories, 1.5 gr fat.
    4. Veggies: Baby carrots and celery sticks are ready to go! Cucumber slices are refreshing too - prepare them a bunch at a time and store them in the fridge.
    5. Yogurt: I buy the low fat kind. With all the awesome flavors, how can you resist. My fav is Boston Cream Pie.
    6. Seltzer: I love cans of Seltzer. i grab one when I htink I'm hungy, but always feel better after a flavored drink.
    7. Fruit: Expand your horizons and try a new fruit. Cut up a bunch before the week starts and store in plastic containers - ready to go!
    8. No fat pudding cups: Can you say CHOCOLATE? I love these!
    9. Sugar Free Jello cups: Easy to transport. All kinds of good flavors.
    10. Rice Cakes: I love the no fat apple/cinnamon kind. These taste like DESSERT!

Do you have favorite grab and go snacks? Post your top 10 and let's grow this list!

What a great thread you started!  Look at all the wonderful ideas that have come in since October.

This is the great part about alli: having a community of people who share terrific ideas and help each other out.

Re: Top 10 List: Favorite snacks to grab and go!

snacks make life worth living  Here are some of mine:

Cooked peeled shrimp with cocktail sauce - I throw 7 in a baggie frozen in the morning.  By snacktime they are thawed and I keep a bottle of cocktail sauce in the desk drawer - lol.

Apple or pear and one ounce of cheddar cheese - mmmm like a picnic in my office.

A slice of whole wheat bread with a light coat of peanut butter - this is my after dinner thing.  Filling and feels like a cheat, but its not.

veggies and hummus - better than pita bread, more flavor

homemade bagel chips.  one bagel makes ALOT. (4 servings easily) slice anyflavor bagel in thin (1/4 inch) circles, spray lightly with pam or olive oil spray, put them in a baggie with your favorite flavors - I like adobo, paprika and garlic powder, shake it all up and spread on a baking sheet.  Bake for 7 minutes at 350 or broil for 3 minutes until toasted.  Crunch, salty and satisfying.

FF fudgsicle, cause sometimes ya gotta have chocolate. Even the not FF are not taboo.

bean dip and baked scoops chips. (I add one heaping tbsp salsa to 1/2 cup lowfat or ff refried black beans or any refried beans, nuke it 30 seconds before eating and I am hap hap happy.)

Melon chunks wrapped in turkey ham slices.  salty and sweet.  Nice!  2 slices of meat cut into strips will do about10 chuncks of melon.

Microwave popcorn - add 1/4 of the dried cheese from the kraft macaroni and cheese after the corn pops, (make a wreath with the "pasta") shake it up.  High on the sodium count so beware.

frozen small banana dipped (once) in heated fat free hot fudge.  Portion control is important on this one.  But if you have calories but no fat grams to spare oh man is this good.

Re: Top 10 List: Favorite snacks to grab and go!

I also have some favorite snacks:  apples, raisins, pretzels and Oreo Thin Crisps in the 100 calories packages.

BUT my favorite snack is Kelloggs Special K Crackers in multi grain.  For 17 crackers the calories are 90 with 2 grams of fat.  I did find them in individual packets in a box but even better was the box of these crackers that I just saw at Wal-Mart for $2.  They have 2 serving sizes (24 crackers and 17 crackers) with nutrition info on side of box.  7 servings of 24 crackers are in the box so it looks like almost 10 servings of 17 crackers so that's a great deal and saves you money.

Re: Top 10 List: Favorite snacks to grab and go!

Thanks so much for all these great snacks!  I'll have to try them all.

Step Reflect how are you doing?  I'm doing good, still on vacation and trying to stay on my alli plan.  Once you get used to it, it's not so bad. I don't feel sorry for myself, by ordering the low fat item on the menu, while everyone else is getting something with full fat cheese, and cream sauces! Mine is still pretty good!

thanks for the support, lets keep it up, linda
