Re: Alli and Hypothyroidism taking Levothyroxine

Could be water.  Stay away from carbonated drinks.  I gain 3 lbs overnight if I drink anything carbonated.  Not sure why, but I do.  Drink lots of water and know that it will come back off in a couple of days!  Hang in there!!!!

I don't drink carbonated drinks - but I do have a glass of wine with dinner - had a couple the one day and again today (going through some tough things) - will get back on the Wii tomorrow.

Has the Alli affected your thyroid at all? Were you told to adjust the dose?  I'm going back to my RE tomorrow for a check up on my next cycle TTC, and he's a thyroid specialist.  (I am NOT looking forward to the long drive to/from)...

    Have a good night!

Re: Alli and Hypothyroidism taking Levothyroxine

My synthroid dose had been stable for a year.  then after I lost 40 lbs, my doc lowered my dose and I started gaining back the weight.  After alot of back and forth, he's finally raised it again, but the weight isn't coming off as easily as it was before.  He says my body has adjusted to the low fat diet, I say it was the change in the synthroid dose.  Sometimes you just gotta listen to your body!  I go back on Wednesday to have my TSH re-checked on my new dose.  It will take me twice as long to lose the next 20 because of the dose changes.  The Alli doesn't affect your thyroid, weight loss will, but the drop in my dose was too dramatic.  He dropped me from 150 to 125 and it should have been dropped to 137.  I became hypothyroid again on the 125 so I'm back at 150.  With my history, it will take at least 3 months to stabilize again.

    Good luck!

    drmpas:

I'm on my second round of Alli.  :)  Last year I lost 40 lbs from January - July.  My doctor lowered my synthroid dose and I stopped gaining weight, then I slowly started gaining it again.  At my October appt I told him that I felt my TSH was off and that I'd stopped losing and started gaining and he said my body had just reached a point where this diet had peaked.  He kept me at the lower dose.  In December I called his nurse and told her that I wanted my TSH drawn again so she arranged it.  I was once again hypothyroid!  TSH was over 10!  Needless to say, my dose was upped again and I'll go back the middle of next month to have it re-tested.  In the meantime, I've started back with Alli two weeks ago and lost 3 lbs.  I know it will be a struggle to re-lose what I gained back and the extra 20 I didn't lose the first time around, but it's going to happen.  My advice is to really listen to your body and watch your TSH levels to make sure your meds are adjusted when they need to be.  I also do not take Alli with breakfast as I rarely go over 5 gms of fat for that meal.  I hit plateaus every few weeks and they could last up to 3 weeks then I'd start losing again.  Do no be discouraged by plateaus.  Drink lots of water.  Stay away from soft drinks.  You will get over the hump and you will feel fabulous when you do!!!!  How much are you trying to lose?  Maybe we can do it together.

I'm trying to lose about 70lbs total.

Re: Alli and Hypothyroidism taking Levothyroxine

Hi, I have not started Alli yet as I need to know if it will react to my thyroid meds. This is really good info. I work out 5-6 days a week with all different classes. But I am continually putting on weight. This is so frustrating. I just want to go back to or at least close to my original weight before my thyroid decided to not work. I will try it starting next week and continue to monitor my body.
    Thanks

    Hi dunkerrs,

I just found out I have hypothyroidism and started my first Rx this morning.  I checked with my pharmacist, and she said that you need to take your thyroid medicine at least two hours before your Alli.  She said that the levothyroxine won't be absorbed if you take them too close together.

    Hope this helps!!

Re: Alli and Hypothyroidism taking Levothyroxine

I am hypothyroid and my doctor recommended Alli.  Because you should be taking levothyroxine one hour before or two hours after meals, you should not have a conflict with the Alli.  I started the program Jan 1, and have lost 53 lbs to date.  I had blood work 2 months ago and the dr says my thyroid levels are great.  No problem here!  But you should talk with your doctor so she/he can keep an eye on your levels -- as they should be doing anyway!

Lynda and Judy,  It's good to read your posts.  I need to get back on track again.  I've been off of Alli for several months now and I'm ready to get started again.  I need to relose the 20 lbs I gained back from last years loss and add another 20 on top of that.  I do better when I'm posting on this site.
