    THE USUAL_WHAT TO EAT

I just bought my pills today and haven't actually started.  I just dn't know what I should eat.  I don't want to wind up "messing" all over myself at work.  I've read about some of the side effects.  If I eat low fat foods like yogurt do I need a pill?  If I only eat a chicken breasft for lunch and a salad do I need a pill?  I'm sorta scared to start.

    Re: THE USUAL_WHAT TO EAT

I have slipped a few times, and when that happened have only experienced minimal side effects. The worst that has happened to me was a tummy ache, a trip to the washroom and what looked like oil in the bowl. That being sad it wasn't great, and it does make you think twice about what you eat....but it wasn't horrible. As far as being uncontrollable, and causing you an embarrassing accident at work, I really doubt that will happen. Don't over do limiting yourself to a meager meal here and being hungry all the time. Start with your diet for about a week, like the plan suggests, create obtainable goals and then start the pill. Don't be afraid...just go for it. You've got nothing (and something!) to lose, otherwise you wouldn't have bought alli in the first place. I have been on it for a few weeks now, have slipped a few times, continued on and have lost 7 lbs already...so there is hope. Good luck! Meg SW 172 CW 163

    Re: THE USUAL_WHAT TO EAT

I just started two weeks ago and was afraid of the "effects" too!!  I went through the books to see what foods were OK and what to stay away from.  It was my husband's birthday last weekend and his daughter brought a cake.  My instinct was not to eat it, but the peer pressure was there and I had a piece.  It was good, but I had effects that night.  It was not uncontrollable, but there was oil (it looked like popcorn oil) in the toilet.  I knew then that I have to refuse to eat things that are prepared by others, as I have no idea how much fat is in it.

I have been OK since, and last night went to a barbeque that involed awesome food..... I chose not to take a pill and splurge a little...... things turned out fine... I just really watched portions.

Everything will be fine...take a chance, but don't give into peer pressure!!

    Re: THE USUAL_WHAT TO EAT

     Hi,

The program actually works.  Don't be afraid to get started.  I suggest you read ALL the material first.  The old saying "Go by the book" it very true with the alli program.  II've had a few side effects a couple of times - I also knew I wasn't suppose to eat what I did.  I suggest you write everything down that you eat or drink-that will help you as you go along with your steps.  Best wishes and hang in there, YOU CAN DO IT!

Why don't you follow the diet for a few days (or a week) without the capsules and then start on Friday and have the weekend to be sure.  The week will give you time to plan meals, get familiar with fat content of different foods, etc. and be more confidant when you do start.

    I hope this helps.

Welcome to alli!  It's a wonderful Program and I'm sure you'll do well.  First look at the section on Success Stories, or click on one of the floating photographs on the opening screen.  You'll get a boost when you see what people have done.

Next, read ALL the sections of this website, and be sure to click the "myalli" tab on the left to get all the background information.  Then read all the materials that were in the Starter Kit.  It may take a week or so for you to get through it all before you actually start the capsule.  But it's important for you to be grounded in all the components of the Program, how to maintain the Nutrition and Activity Logs, etc.

Please come to the message boards frequently.  If you have a diet or nutrition question go to the Dietitians Message Board (if you'd like me to reply put "Pat, please read" in the subject line); if it's about medication you take go to the Pharmacists Message Board.

This particular board is for "breakfast" recipe ideas.  If you read a couple of posts it can help you plan menus.

    I hope this help!

    Re: THE USUAL_WHAT TO EAT

I just started and I lost 7 lbs. in seven days. I only had one slip up and I learned my lession. The only thing is my husband loves to be social and these people are really skinny and eat a lot of greesy foods. and cook with a ton of butter and salt. It really makes my life even more challenging. But, I have come out of it so far. I have a really strong will this time.

I was afraid to, I have heard so many horrible stories, but I finally gave in and started my pills last Sunday,

after already lowering my cal. and cutting out my soda & deserts, for me that was the worst part, but my reward came today 7 pounds lighter, and not a single side effect (yet) Come on, you can do it and were all here to help and give you support.  Let us know how it goes.

Good for you!  It's good to acknowledge that other people can make whatever decisions they want -- but you don't have to go along with it!  If all your friends smoked, or drank beyond reason, or whatever, you wouldn't go along with it.  It's the same with food...

    Stay strong!

Bravo!  It sounds like you're on a roll now.  Keep making good food choices, eat a variety of foods and gest some physical activity.  In addition to losing weight, you'll be amazed at how good you beging to feel!

    Re: THE USUAL_WHAT TO EAT

Don't worry...I just started over a week ago and I haven't had any treatment effects.  Maybe some gas feeling.  I am getting used to the plan and am not a great grocery shopper and pretty unorganized when it comes to meals.  I have been eating lowfat, but need to actually eat more.  I have about 50 lbs to loose and lost 4 lbs on my start program.  When I take the pill, I really think before I eat which I am glad about.  Anyway jump right into it.
