    On the go breakfast ideas?

Hi eveyone! I'm new. I'm just starting the diet and I've come to some realizations:

    1. I had no idea just how little I actually ate on a daily basis until I starting keeping a food journal.

    and

    2. I need some ideas for food on the go that don't come from a drive thru.  I have an early morning shift with a long commute. I have no time to cook before I leave and I have no time to stop at a drive-thru. Waking up earlier is not an option.  I already rise before the chickens. LOL Really. I'm up every morning at 3:30am.

What I need are recipes and ideas for breakfast or lunch that not only can be made the night before to grab and go the next day but that are also close to what I should be eating fat wise.  (I'm finding it very difficult to eat the amount of fat I should.  I'm so used to being told to reduce my fat to next to nothing that I'm afraid the larger fat intake will cause me to gain weight instead of lose it.) Does anyone have any suggestions? Someone please help.

Hi - I'm new too and I'm in the same situation as you!  The early morming commute and a long evening commute limit my ability to make good choices...they are always "what can I do that's quick".  I'm hoping someone will answer you with some great ideas!  Good luck to us both!

one thing I have found (actually, someone else from the boards here suggested it) is Weight Watcher muffins.  They are individually wrapped and very good.  They are fairly low in calories and fat.  take a piece of fruit along and it is decent and holds you over until the nex meal.  They are very tasty!  Laura

I don't have much time as well for breakfast, I get up early and go to the gym so I am rushing out the door to work. Yogurt is a great breakfast, watch the kind you get though some are not as healthy as others. The high fiber brands keep you fuller longer. I pop two pieces of wheat or pumpernickel toast in the toaster before I hit the shower and spread yogurt on them instead of jelly or butter. It is actually very tasty and keeps you full for a long time. Sometimes I use low-fat peanut butter too. Smoothies are a great option too. You can make those ahead of time. They keep for a few days in the fridge. Skim milk, low-fat or non-fat yogurt and some fresh fruit is all you need in a blender. A little trial and error is all you need to find the ones you like. Good luck.

evaningstar-thanks for the awesome idea....I never would have thought to spread yogurt on a piece of toast!  What a yummy non-fat topping!  Can't wait to try it!

Re: On the go breakfast ideas?

I hope you enjoy the yogurt. Something else I have recently tried and really enjoyed was smashing fresh fruits and spreading it on toast. I have tried bananas, strawberries and cantelope. All were pretty good. It is better than jelly without the added calories and fat. And add whole wheat toast with added fiber and you have a very healthy very tasty breakfast on the go that sticks with you for awhile.

Re: On the go breakfast ideas?

This is what I do for a quick breakfast.  I make breakfast the evening before!  Scramble an egg and add some fat free cheese.  Put it in a fat free flour tortilla and then in the morning just pop it in the microwave til heated.  I can eat it standing at the sink or in the car!  You can make more than one taco and have breakfast all week!

Another thing is a whole wheat english muffin done the same way.

Re: On the go breakfast ideas?

I'm a seasoned "2 weeker" LOL!  and have the same time issue.  In two weeks I've lost 5 lbs, and that's all due to watching fat intake.

I do one of two things.

Either I take the time to hard boil some eggs on the weekend so they are ready, or have a small container of manderin oranges before I leave the house.

If I'm doing the HB egg on toast, the egg is done.  All it takes is popping a piece of toast in the toaster, peeling and slicing the egg, and Presto! breakfast is served.

If I'm doing the manderin oranges or fruit salad, it's the "snack".  Then I eat the breakfast item when I get settled at the office.  There are so, so many delicious breakfast recipies on the menu.

Point is that your stomach needs something besides coffee to get going in the morning.  If you're used to eating at 10 AM break, go ahead and toast that english muffin with PB&J or one of the other quick and easy breakfast ideas.

Re: On the go breakfast ideas?

    Hey Everybody

I've just finished my first week.. and I'm about to go weigh in at Weight Watchers and see how it turned out.  But what I found that really works in the morning b/c I also usually need something quick is Special K frozen waffles with red berries-they're delicious! low cal/fat. Also if you do have a little extra time egg beaters (cheese and chive) on a WW bagle or with a piece of toast or whatever you like. Also very good and low cal/fat

I WISH THE BEST OF LUCK TO EVERYONE!

Re: On the go breakfast ideas?

How about a whole wheat bagel with light cream cheese and fruit spread.  Just put it together  like a sandwich and pop it in a baggie the night before so it's portable. When you say commute I assume you are driving rather than riding and need your hands free. A protein bar and a piece of fruit is another option. I personnally like the Special K protein bars.
