    Re: Jump Roping

I was so excited when I found out how many calories Jumping Rope burns I was going to make a post, but then I saw your post so I just responded to that.  I'm not sure about any routiens or anything but I would like to hear about some too. On prevention.com there is a program that can tell you how many calories based on your height, weight, and age you burn per minute of jumproping. You can sign up for a health tracker thing and find out about alot of exersizes.

I was so amazed because for myself, It said that for 10 min of Jumproping, I burn about 100 calories! That is the fastest, easiest way I have found to burn that many calories. I dont have much time so this is easy exersize for me.

    Hope this helps you.

    Re: Jump Roping

I love jumping rope too. I do it while watching TV. In terms of buying a jump rope, I know that if you're standing on it the handles should come up to your chest so that's how you know it's a good length for you. I don't do any sort of specific program. I generally do it as long as I can, and I switch between jumping with both feets and doing one foot at a time so it doesn't get too boring. Hope this helps.

    Good luck

    Re: Jump Roping

    Hi geo_driver,

Thanks for writing and for the great info!  Jumping rope is a fabulous and very effective way to burn serious calories!  I don't know personally any certain routines, either, but incorporating a couple of minutes of jumping rope into any exercise routine is a great way to increase your caloric burn!  Try it when performing a 30-45 minute strength training workout by doing 30 secs to 1 minute of jump rope inbetween sets, accumulating a very good cardio workout as well!

Thanks again for your helpful idea!

    Re: Jump Roping

I read an article that said you didn't even have to have the actual jump rope to jump rope  All you have do do is jump and move you arms as if  you have a jump rope in your hands. You get the same workout but if you have a hard time like I do and trip or step on the rope you don't have to constantly stop. I work out for 30 mins  or more on the treadmill or ellipitcal but doing this for 10 mins winded me.

    Re: Jump Roping

    Hi maryq195,

You are right!  You don't have to have an actual jump rope to get the benefits!  Just mimicking the motion is perfectly fine and effective.  Jumping jacks, jump squats, and other explosive moves are a great way to increase the caloric burn in any workout!
