    Suggestions Welcome!

    Hi all,

I started alli this past weekend and already feel great and look different, it's wonderful!  I am having the same issue as everyone else with the breakfast fat thing, this morning i was literally eating my rasin bran with banana and looking everywhere to find more fat i could eat quickly.  I ended up settling for some almonds (each almond weighs about 1 gram and is 1 gram of fat with 6 calories each).  But can someone suggest flavors of slim fast that are good?  Everyone always says peanut butter, but it makes me pretty sick, so does anyone have other alternatives for peanut butter?

I appreciate any and all suggestions!

    Re: Suggestions Welcome!

Never heard of peanut butter slim fast. I like the chocolate flavors but I'm a chocoholic! I love peanut butter toast and eat it almost every morning but sometimes I switch up and have cheese toast for the fat. Other options are 2% milk on your cereal or a scrambled egg. I like to scramble egg beaters with diced canadian bacon and fresh parsley and chives.

    Re: Suggestions Welcome!

     Hi Laura,

If you like Raisin Bran for breakfast, go right ahead and have it.  Just don't take the Alli pill because you won't need it unless you're 5+ grams of fat or more.  One 60mg Alli dose will block 25% of the fat that has been consumed.  That's how it works.  No fat, no need for a pill.

It's important to have a healthy breakfast and make sure you have light snacks.  The snacks can also be fat free.  They give your stomach something to work on to keep you from being too hungry in betwen meals.

     Hi Mary,

My name is Carolyn and I noticed in your profile that you are a carb addict.  I have only been on Alli for 5 days now and posting everything I eat in my online log.  It appears that I am not eating enough carbs.  Any suggestions on food selections that will give me high carbs without too many calories & fat.  I seem to be pretty balanced with everything else.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Carolyn

    Re: Suggestions Welcome!

     Hi Carolyn,

My name is Mary and I'm a carbaholic :-)  Never did have a sweet tooth.  I'd go for a baked potato or a plate of pasta instead of ice cream or cake.  One of the things that was so encouraging for me in the Alli food plan is that I didn't have to give up carbs entirely, just watch what I dress them with.  There are a lot of good high fiber whole wheat pastas out there now and it's simple to make a single serving without waste.  Maybe try chicken and pasta or brocolli and pasta salad?  I have small red potatoes around all the time now.  Egg substitute took a little getting used to for me, but once you've added a little red potato, green onion and red pepper to the mix, you won't know the difference.  And of course, brown or wild rice on the side.

If you like fruit, try apples, banannas or melons.  Here's a link to fruit carb counts:

    Hope this helps,

    Mary

    Re: Suggestions Welcome!

Mary is correct that you can skip the capsule when a mean - usually breakfast - has 5 grams of fat or less.  That's shouldn't be for more than one meal per day, however.  Adding the almonds was a good idea, and you could also use LF milk instead of FF.

For best results with alli it's important to have the recommended calories and fat for your level.  It's fine for the one meal to be lower, as I mentioned, but stay close with the rest.

If you sample some of the other SF flavors and find you don't like it try putting it in a blender with some fruit & ice to make a smoothie.  That will help you enjoy it more (and not feel you wasted your money), and might create something you'll do again.

    I hope this helps.

    Re: Suggestions Welcome!

Instead of Peanut butter I use Nutella. It's a chocolatey hazenut spread. It's not as thick as peanut butter and tastes great on all kids of foods, toast, bananas whatever you want.

    1 serving (2 TBSP) = 160 Cal • versus 190 for peanut butter - Fat 11 • versus 16 for peanut butter

What a great idea.  I have nutella in the pantry and didn't even think to use it.  For all those chocolate lovers out there nutella is a great treat.  Thanks for the tip!

    Re: Suggestions Welcome!

     Thank you Pam,

Hmmm ... LF PB has 7 gm protien.   So I'm guessing the nutella has more sugar to account for the calories.

I have this struggle with my nutrition log, trying to keep everything where it should be.  I'm starting to write some of my own menus now and it's tough!  Maybe best go back to square one and just do the food plan ...

    Re: Suggestions Welcome!

I use all different nut butters....  cashew butter, almond butter, soy nut butter, even sunflower butter and of course peanut butter.  THey are all so delicious (they all tast different from eachother as well) and have "good" fat and protein in them all!

I also love just sprinkling.. after measuring of course... slivered almonds of finely chopped walnus in my yogurt, on salads, in oatmeal, etc.

    yum!

    Hope this helps!  :)
