Here we are...appproaching July! Summer sizzle, picnics, frisbee, bike riding, canoeing in the parks, gardening, hiking, and BASEBALL!! (Go Tigers! What a joke...might not be so good this year!)

Anyway...in view of how I think of July, I have concept to go with it! The new challenge info follows!

Challenge (Thread) Name: The July 21 day "Triple Play" Challenge!

    Dates of Challenge: July 7th - July 27 (That's Mon-Sunday)

Triple Play means: There are 3 things you must do daily!! You will  earn 3 points per day! Fall short, you only get points for doing what you did!

    What's the Triple Play?

    1) Indoor workout such as treadmill, elliptical, stairclimber, free weights, machine weights, yoga,
pilates, stability ball, core work, videos...you get the picture?
MINIMUM of 30 minutes!!!!!!!!!! If you do it, you earn 1 POINT!

    2) You must post daily calories & fat grams!!! If you fall short, you cannot earn your POINT for the
nutrition aspect of this 'triple play' challenge! USE THE NUTRITION LOG!!! It will tell you if you are on target, borderine, or over!!
If you eat your correct cals/fat "on target or in range", you earn 1 POINT! If you go OVER, 0 points!

    wink-wink!)

    3) You MUST do 1 daily outdoor activity; garden, walk, bike ride, canoe, hike, badmitton, tennis, volleyball, swimming, sailing, toss the ball with your kids, clean the garage if your stuck!
SOMETHING that requires bodily EFFORT....lounging at the pool drinking a margurita does NOT
count! (Thanks to Melissa and Carol for inspiring this component of the challenge! They are both so active outdoors!)
Minimum 30 minutes! You earn 1 point! Skipping it; 0 Points.

How to post: DAILY!! Post what the above 3 were and how many points you earned! I will track DAILY the following day of the date. PLEASE post in a TIMELY fashion!! No more than 1 day late PLEASE!!

What I will track: I will post a daily log of the points you earned! I won't be tracking minutes exercized, or cal/fat...July is the time of year it is better to be out than at a computer, right? Monday, July 7th Report

    Carol Joy: 3 points!!

    30 min Video = 1pt

5 Hours!!! Pulling weeds, gardening (mostly pulling weeds from my sloppy new next-door neighbors' neglected side yard I look at daily out of my kitchen windows!) I collected 5 BIG lawn bags full of weeds
and sticks! They haven't touched their yard all spring! That is the LAST time I'll do that since I pay a gardener bi-monthly to do my own yard! They have been reproted numerous times to our association and will soon start getting fined! Yay! My arms and shoulders HURT from pulling all those "creeper weeds"
    = 1 pt! (Feels like I earned 50pts!!)

    Cals/Fat gms: ON Target! = 1pt!

Hope you all had a great 1st day!!

Re: The July 21 day "Triple Play" Challenge! (Challenge full!)

Carol Joy - I just read the new rules and I'm afraid I'm going to have to drop out of the challenge.  I live in New Orleans and I don't tolerate the heat very well.  it is extremely hot here (low 90's) and it's only going to get worse for this month and August and some of September.  I'm just not that active outdoors during the hot and humid summer months.  Just going to the grocery store and running errands in this heat is enough to wear me out.  But, I understand for all of you that have spent so much time shoveling snow that this time of the year must be bliss for you.  I've always enjoyed the comradeship of the group and felt it kept me going.  I will miss it.  Everyone has been great.  I hope to continue my exercises on the exercise bike and weight machine and free weights--I've got to continue because I've not lost weight and, in fact, have put on weight during this adjustment period of taking the new medication and dealing with the aches and pains.  I truly admire the energy that you girls have to be outside in the heat (ugh!)  Bring on the cold weather and I feel so alive.  You are the best Coach Carol Joy!

    Monday, July 7th Report

    Brittany: 3 points!

Outdoor Activity: 40 Minute power walk through the park with my mom and puppy Roxy(well she's actually a big 6 year old boxer, but she's still my little pupppy.)  I decided that Roxy is going to be much of my motivation for my outdoor activity.  We have an electric fence in our back yard, therefore we don't take her  for walks.  We just let her out and in when she cries at the door.  The old dog I had used to take it upon herself to excercise.  She would run around the yard a couple times every day, so she stayed relatively thin and very active.  She LOVED going for walks when we were at the shore where we don't have a backyard.  So today I decided to take Roxy for a walk through the park with my mom and me, and I realized she is SO out of shape! lol  I felt like I was dragging her along after just five minutes of walking.  It really scared me!  I love her so much, and I want to stick around as long as possible, so I figure she needs to get healthier!  Therefore, I'll not only be getting myself in better shape, I'll be helping her to as well!  This may seem like stupid motivation lol, but I think it will help me!

Indoor Activity: 80 Minutes-60 minutes on the elliptical and 20 minutes ab work and strength training with weights, machines, and resistance bands.

Calorie/Fat Gram: On target!(1660/50) I am begining to LOVE the nutrition log!  Thank you so much Carol Joy for pointing it out to me!

    Have a great night ladies!

Reporting for July 7 and Attention: Lynn

    thinlynn:

Lynn - From hot and sticky Flordia, I agree with you ... when the crepe myrtle is blooming, it's just too hot and nasty to be outside!!  I'm going to hang in the challenge and I guess they'll just be lots of days that I can only lay claim to 2 of the 3 points.  If you don't want to take my 2/3 approach, I hope you'll post about once a week and let us know how you are.  Jane

    Measurements

wt. 205 (Down 1 lb in June)

Waist 42" (Down from 43 3/4 in March)

    Hips 48 1/16" (Down from 48 1/2 in March)

    3 Points

1 pt. - 50 min "Secure and Fit" 1 hr class at the Y - I could do everything but the 10 min of crunches.  There's still something going on with my mid-back.  Until I get it checked out, I'm not going to do anything that hurts it.

    1 pt. - on Target 1427/73

    1 pt. Light gardening - 30 minutes

Even though I have my doubts about regularly doing the outdoor portion, I think this challenge is good for me.

    Stats and day 1 (7/7)

    Kari

    weight 188

    height 5'4"

    chest 42"

    waist 34"

    hip 42 "

    thigh 23"

    upper arms 13"

    Day 1 7/7

    2/3 points

    outdoor: 45 min walk

    nutrition: 1690/47 on target

No indoor. I got up at 4AM to catch an early plane, and went straight to work from the airport. I walked on a break from work, but by the time I did grocery shopping, got home, cooked, unpacked, etc I was way to exhausted to do any exercise. Fortunately, I got a lot more exercise in on my trip than I had thought so I don't feel too guilty. Hopefully the rest of the month I'll be 3/3 every day.

Hope everyone had a good weekend. (I'll read the posts I missed from the interim log tomorrow)

    G'night,

    Messages-Please read

Lynn....PLEASE don't leave the challenge!! We were SO lookinh forward to you being a part of the team again! Do what Sharon suggested: just claim up to 2pt per day! So what if you don't make 3 day...it is only a 'goal'....if you claim 1-2pts. we'll still love you! Please reconsider; I know you can lose weight during these 3 weeks with us.

Let me know; I'll try to send a message on the Perdonal experiences board in case you miss this one here.

    Hoping you reconsider.

Melissa....we are close to being twins!! My height is 5'8"...actually was 5'8.5" buyt now is closer to 5'8.25" if you want me to be exact! Being taller (I believe you are my height as well, right?) we can carry a bigger number as we 'spread it out' over a taller frame! I feel bad for the tiny ladies under 5'5" as they will show weight easier than us big girls!

Sharon....of course you are in the challenge!! My bad; I just recopied and old post from the other thread and didn't realize your name was missing! So sorry!

Kari....oh my...a 4am flight?? Where were you going girl??

Jayne or Kathy?  Which one of you has the 'portly' doggy - boxer? Now I can't recall- I just wanted to say what a great idea to think of your puppy as well! His/her weight is also critical for a long life- good thinking and when you feel lazy...hopefully putting puppys' needs first will get you out there!

Just wanted to catch up with you all. SO glad the houseguest is gone and I can get back to 'normal'..

On my way to a 90 min advanced yoga class! It is 80 already and only 8am! We have ALOT of hunidity here in Michigan during the summer, so add another 15 degress in how the heat "feels"...yoga should be extra sweaty today!
