    Multi-vitamins timing

Hello. I have consistently read that when on the alli program one should take a multivitamin at bedtime because alli can prevent absorption of some vitamins. But  i have read nothing specifically on timing interaction, which would be more helpful to know since each person's diet, routines and schedules may differ.

Would you happen to know how long after taking alli can I take the multivitamin (I take GNC Women's Ultra Mega and GNC Healthy Skin & Nails supplement). Unfortunately because of my schedule, I have a late dinner and go to bed not long after eating (I know this is far from ideal, but it is my reality). So I would end up taking alli and my vitamins close together.

Also, isn't it important to take a multi-vitamin with food since food generally assists with absorption (especially for fat soluble vitamins like A,D and E).

    Thank you

Hello. If bedtime does not work for you ta take your multivitamin, it is advisable to take it at least 2 hours before or after alli to minimize the alli blocking any of the absorption of the fat-soluble vitamins. You can take your multivitamin with food, but if you take it with a significant amount of fat, then you will likely be taking your alli and that can affect its absorption. Keep in mind, you take a multivitamin as an insurance policy to ensure you are always getting 100% of your nutritional needs. The majority of your vitamins should come fromthe healthy food choices you make. So if you do not take it with food OR of you take it too close to the alli, the amount that will be affected should not have significant consequences.

Hope this makes sense. Best of health!

    Re: Multi-vitamins timing

Are there any multi-vitamins that you can suggest that do not have to be taken with food. I noticed on the website it suggests

Centrum. I looked a Kroger's yesterday and all of the different kinds of Centrum need to be taken with food.

    Re: Multi-vitamins timing

     Hi kristen1820,

Most vitamins need some food in the GI tract in order to be absorbed, it need not be a full meal but a snack.

You need to space the fat soluble vitamins at least 2 hours apart from an Alli dose, so that there is no blocking their absorption.

    Hope this helps.
