    Starting Over

I did great the first 2  months on Alli.  I lost 18 pounds. Kids got out of school for the summer and my schedule changed. I gained the weight back plus more. Im not sure how to go about this now. Any advice? I feel really lost.

    Re: Starting Over

I am starting over after being off alli for almost a year.  The first time I lost almost 20lbs and have gained back about 15.  I don't know yet because I haven't got on the scale yet.  What I do know is I just have to make the choice to do the right thing.  No one else can do it for me but with reminders from the site and friends I know I can get back on track.  I just take one day at a time.  Today is my first day.  I did well.  Tomorrow I will have two days.  The next thing I know I will be back on the right track.  Just take one day at a time.  Enjoy the small successes.

    Re: Starting Over

    Hi Rickjesshall,

There is nothing that you can do about the past so it's best to learn from it and move on. As long as you think about the weight that you regained it is going to make losing it more difficult. Take some time to come up with a plan for what to do the next time that your schedule changes to prevent regaining your weight. It's a good idea to have a plan for when you are starting to see your weight go up. For example, once you have regained 5 lbs you need to reach out for help or come up with a more restrictive eating plan. Have that number in mind along with the plan and use that to get you back on track.

    How does that sound?

    Re: Starting Over

How about just setting a goal of five pounds?  Once you've hit that goal, set another small one.  Sometimes having a specific date in my when setting the goal helps, like maybe by Labor Day.  I don't know how much you have to lose, but say it's 60 pounds, that seems like so far away, so set it for 5 and then reward yourself when you hit that one.  It's kind of like the AA slogan, one day at a time, just make this one pound at a time.

    Good luck,

    Judy

    Re: Starting Over

I was on Alli diet from August 2007 - November 2007 and had lost 30 lbs. when Alli pills stopped working.  So  I just quit taking them, little by little I'd forget to take them.  Now I've gained back 25 lbs.  Will the Alli pills ever work for me again?  When I was on the diet, I would check in every week, set up my meal plan for the week on the Alli website, print out my shopping list and off I'd go to the store.  I'd follow my meal plan and recipes and I did great.  Then all of a  sudden it just stopped and I lost interest because I wasn't losing anymore and I still had 30 lbs. to go.  How do I get this all working again?

    Re: Starting Over

I would say follow the plan like you did the first time.  Key is printing out your shopping list before you go to the store, and then only buy what's on it.  Keep the crap out of the house.  You know what to do, just push the Start button.   Good luck.

    Re: Starting Over

The thing about weight loss for most of us using alli is that we are very good at yo-yo diets.  Something will work for awhile then we reach a plateau or some life experience causes us to get off track and next thing you know is you have gained back what you lost (and sometimes more).

It's happened to me.  With alli I just keep going back to the basics.  I've been using this product off and on for almost a year and I am ever so slowly losing weight.  Some weeks I'm up, some weeks I stay the same, and some weeks I'm down.  Fortunately, I am going down more than I am going up (or staying the same).

The best advice I can offer is to start planning meals and set small goals.  I mean like to make it through lunch, then to make it through dinner, then to make it the whole day.  Don't beat yourself up when you falter...just get back on the plan and remind yourself that this is a life change.

    Good luck!

    Re: Starting Over

Hey, there, I'm in the same boat you are! I lost 30 lbs. and little by little the pills stopped working so I stopped taking them and now 27lbs are back!  Here's the thing... I found a book called "Break through your set point." It explains that the brain will defend the weight it thinks you're supposed to be. It kind of explains how an actor can gain 40 lbs. for a role, but diet it off in a matter of months. Same thing as pregnancy weight... if you don't let it hang around for more than a year, it will come off pretty easily.  The set point can be changed, but it recommends losing about 10% of your current weight or whatever your natural plateau is and holding the new weight for a few months.  That resets your weight and you can begin the diet/weightloss process all over again till you get to where you are going.  Anyway, that book made a whole lot of sense and I think between that and the Alli plan I'm gonna give it another shot.  I hate being huge but I know I can do it.  And if I can do it, so can you!

Thanks for sharing this - I've heard about the set point but no good ways to deal with it. I too am back on Alli again; I did it for about two months last year and then stopped - lost 20 pounds and then gained back 13 of it. I've been back on it for about 10 days and have dropped 10 pounds of it - all water, I'm sure! - but it seems to be working just fine. I'm getting married in September so I'm more motivated than ever - bought a wedding dress two sizes too small just for the motivation factor.

    Re: Starting Over

     Hi!

    I feel it too everyone!

I started Alli November 2007, and by May 2008, I lost 30 pounds.  Now I've gained 20 back since the summer.  Just being lazy I guess.  Still ticks me off...  it's so much easier having you all here and the nutrition log to keep focused.

I'm back on the bus now...

    Re: Starting Over

Sooooo funny - I thought I was reading my own posts a few times - My story is so close to all of you. I lost 15 lbs with Alli from Aug 07 - Oct 07 then slowed down and finally quit. I was pretty good about keeping it off for a long 6 months, but after that - as you said... I got lazy again. I could list a pretty good list of excuses that should justify it, but truth is, after gaining back those 15lbs (total goal was/is 30-35lbs) I am still so unhappy with how I look and can't wait to finally get rid of these 30 extra lbs - maybe even 40! Can't say until I get there.

Anyway - here's to new beginnings! I'm not taking alli yet - but this time around I am taking it week by week with small goals. Goal number 1, starting exercising again 3-4 times a week (aerobics first) was met a week ago. This week my goal is to start eating regular meals plus a snack or two, but NOT grazing or snacking all day long, which I've been doing. So far so good. Don't have my notebook with me just now (it's in the room where the baby's sleeping) so can't remember what's next, but I'm just taking it slow. I'll start the pills in two weeks or so. I'm really determined to permenently change my lifestyle, not just jumping into the "diet" this time.

Another motivation is my $5 Jar I've set up. Here's how it works: I put a $5 bill in a jar each week. If I reach my goal at the end of the week, then I spend the money on myself (books, magazines, make-up, nail polish, lotion, socks, whatever I want). If I do not reach my goal at the end of the week, then that $5 is given away to someone else who may need it. I've bought one magazine so far, and I am close to another one, or I think I'd like some new eye-liner this time. Simple and rewarding.

    Good luck everyone!!!

    Re: Starting Over

    Hey guys!

*sigh* I too am back after a nice holiday... I was doing so well and then BAM Thanksgiving was the first of many days, which had the line "oh, I'll get back on it tomorrow"..

I had lost a total of 15lbs with Alli contributing to about 10 of that and alas I'm back up. I don't know what I feel. Sad, angry, determined, hopeful, optimistic, tired, exhausted. But I want to be back to feeling as good as I was with Alli. No more being indenial. I remember (I was on Alli for a month) being so happy about having a plan! I just hope I can start back up with the same enthusiasm as before.

I had been meaning to go back on Alli rather quickly once New Years ended, but I kept putting it off... And tonight I was given the comment that although my significant other cares a lot about me, he knows my weight is an issue. I know he will still be there with me and my weight is not a make or break kinda deal, I'm just shocked that after 3 years he was finally able to point it out to me.

Ahem, I'm getting off the main point.. I just can't ignore my weight any longer. In the past, I made excuses that my school and work needed the most attention, and I let my health deteriate. But a wise person knows, health is all we really have (aside from love from our family, and luckily love from my partner too). I didn't take care of myself for so long, that now I'm starting to see the effects.. I also realize that my weight reflected the conflict of emotions I have inside, and now that I have the love of my life, love from my family, maybe I can tackle all that needs healing AND my weight.

I'm 22 and I've never seen myself as "average" weight and I'm hoping that this time.. This time, I can do it!

And first things first, start the three day meal plans before Alli, and make friends with water. :)
