It's fine to make you're own menus. The Sample Menus are provided for those who like a structured approach, and all the information. So alli provides menus, recipes, marketing lists, etc.
Take a look at the Sample Menus for your level just to see how the calories and fat are distributed throughout the day. It's important to have three meals and one or two snacks. You want to have a variety of foods as well. So whole-grain toast with peanut butter, fruit and yogurt could be breakfast (depending on your calorie and fat levels). Dinner might be grilled chicken, corn on the cob, tossed salad and fruit.
The meals don't need to be complicated - or expensive - so I'm sure you'll be able to plan around the items in your home. I suggest that you actually write out one or two menus so you have a plan that works whether you're home or eating out. If you check some of the meal/recipe boards there are some nice simple ideas there too.
