    Travel and Home Office

I have a postion that first of all I am blessed to be able to work out of home, however it does have a path straight to the kitchen, so stocking the kitchen appropriately is a must, but I do a significant amount of travel and my time clock get disorentied and I have client dinners/lunches, any thoughts on what I can pack in my briefcase for long plane trips and smarter choices for dinner in restaurants that do not usually have a low fat option staring at you.

    Thanks

    Hi akirkland04,

Thanks for writing and welcome to alli.  When working out of the home, doing business lunches, dinners, or traveling, eating right can be challenging!

The best advice I can give you is to balance out each meal and each snack with protein, complex carbs and healthy fats.  For a meal, it may be a grilled chicken breast (protein should be about the size of your palm), a sweet potato or brown rice for carb, and a green leafy salad with tons of veges, with an oil (good fat) and vinegar dressing.  Other ideas to substitute in meals are black beans, avocado slices, lean meats, fish, steamed veges, whole grain breads, steel cut oats, nut butters (2 tbsp.), and all the fresh fruit and veges!

Some very easy and nutritious snacks that you can put into your briefcase are apples, pears (any fruit), unsalted, roasted almonds or walnuts, 1/2 a peanut butter sandwich on whole grain bread, string cheese with handful of Triscuits or Wheat Thins, and protein bars such as Luna bars that have lower sugar and at least 5 grams of protein per bar. Make sure that you always have water on hand!

    Your friend in fitness,

    Kelli

    Re: Travel and Home Office

Hi. Hope this helps.  I always carry some Kelloggs breakfast bar or a sandwich with me on plane trips. At the restaurant, I would either get some seafood dish (not fried), salad, pasta with some sort of tomato sauce, or grill chicken.
