hi, today is my first day on alli and looking for some friends

I just took my first alli capsule and am hoping for good results from this program.  I have 40+ #'s to lose, any words of advise?  I"ve been battling weight since I was a child, and have been in several programs over the years.  I'm 65 and with arthritis etc I have to get this extra weight off if I want to be the least bit active.  I do have a question,  I don't normally eat a lot of fat except ice cream but I am a big sweet eater; will alli help at all with this?

     Hi Sonya,

I am just starting as well. Alli will help cut the fat from what you are eating, but definitely pay close attention to the fat grams and serving size. Ice cream is high in fat. I found that when I started this program I had to sacrific a lot of foods that I love...like french fries...well fried anything. Try to switch to the low fat ice cream if you aren't doing that already - but even with low fat, you still have to watch the calories. I love sweets myself...I went to a party yesterday and they had such good looking desserts - I did eat like a small sliver of one but that was all I could have if I actually wanted to eat a real meal and not go over my fat count. When you do your own meals it is so much easier not to fall off the wagon because you have total control over what you eat compared to if you go over to someones house, etc.

Re: hi, today is my first day on alli and looking for some friends

    Sonya,

Weight loss takes time and commitment.  The alli plan is about adopting healthier choices, which includes snacks.  When you begin eating more nutritious food and eating regular meals and snacks your cravings for other foods decrease.  Alli is to be taken with meals, not for snacks.

You can still have ice cream, but in moderation as well as looking for other low fat options.

You should also try a food journal for a few days.  By writing down all the food you eat, you will then know how much fat you are eating and can better assess if alli is for you.

    Hope this helps.

I have been struggling with my weight since I had my baby.  I have tried many of diets but didn't stick to any of them.  I have been

taking alli for 1 week and so far so good.  I am praying that this plan works for me.  I would appreciate any words of encouragement

    that anyone has to offer.

I am 44 and have never had a weight problem until the past year or so.   I have pretty much let it go and now I am 35 to 40 pounds overweight.  I started alli Monday and I am looking for encourgement also.  So far I havent had any problems but I am sticking to the 1200 calories/12 grams per meal.   Alli reccommended the 1400/15 and when I am able to go back to the gym I might do that.  I was going to the gym started last September and quit in May and I didnt lose but maybe 3 lbs but I did lose inches (I didn't stick to a diet either).  I am just fed up with the way I look and not fitting into any of my clothes.  I am determined to lose it.   Any encouragement will help.

Re: hi, today is my first day on alli and looking for some friends

Hi all, I just started Alli about a week ago, and I also have been looking for some friends.  I think I added you all (on this thread) to my alli circle.  I'm still not sure of exactly how to use this web site.  Maybe a moderator will step in and give me some insight.  Is there a way we can send a message to others in our circle, such as encouragement, etc?

Anyway, I also love ice cream -- Bryar's Vanilla!  I've stopped that altogether for now, and I'm having some fat-free vanilla yogurt instead.  I haven't tried freezing it yet, but it's an idea.  The first couple of days without my usual ice cream fix, I missed it.  The last few days, however, I really don't.  I think our tastes adjust, or at least I hope they do.

I have arthritis as well, and I also have COPD, so I'm not able to exercise much at all.  With Alli and the changes to my diet alone, I've already lost 9 pounds!  (only 51 more to go...)  I know diet alone won't get me to my goal, but I'm hoping that with less weight to carry around, my ability to exercise will increase in time.

Please feel free to add me to your "friends list" or circle or whatever it is, and let me know if you find a way to "chat" directly.  I need encouragement as well.  Good luck to us all -- we CAN do this!!

Re: hi, today is my first day on alli and looking for some friends

     Hello,

I just started a couple of days ago and tomorrow will be my first check-in day, so I'm somewhat excited to see if I have lost anything.

If the scale doesn't tell the truth, then my clothes will -- I'm hopeful.  I find that alli promotes good eating habits, which was one of

biggest problems, especially when it comes to portion control.  I did notice that my cravings for the sweets are no longer, which

is a big plus since I love potato chips.  Taking one day at a time is a good approach and you can always lean on me if you

need some encouragement.  We're all in this together.  Keep a goin' and feel free to add me to your favorites.

Re: hi, today is my first day on alli and looking for some friends

Hey my name is Megan, I know the feeling of wanting to get the weight off for health concerns.  My family has a history of diabetes and that is one thing I do not want.  So in order for me to keep it that way I have got to get the weight off.  Today was my first full day and I ate everything I normally eat and guess what I had a hard time trying to reach my fat intake level.  I am supposed to take in only 19 grams of fat per meal and I am supposed to only take in 1800 calories a day.  So here is what I had to eat and what it had in it.  Breakfast: 2 pop-tarts w/o icing = 420 calories/12g of fat & 1 cup of milk = 130 calories/5g of fat.  Lunch: 1 tuna fish sandwich = 215 calories/5.5g of fat & 45 wheat thins(which I did not eat all of them)= 400 calories/12g of fat. Now for dinner: Voila chicken alfredo, 1 1/2 cup = 280 calories/18g of fat and 1 oreo cookie= 33 calories/2g of fat.  So my total calorie intake today was 1478 and I am supposed to be taking in 1800 which left me with a difference of 322 calories. Now my fat gram intake total was 55g of fat, now at 19g of fat per meal mulitplied by 3 meals makes that out to be 57g of fat a day I need to be getting.  So my fats grams today were 2 less then my goal.  The only reason I ate the wheat thins is so that I could get the proper amount of fat grams for my 2nd meal.  So I know what you mean by not eating alot of fatty foods and your concerns.  Anyways if your looking for a friend or what not, Im here just hit me up some time.

Re: hi, today is my first day on alli and looking for some friends

     Hi Megan,

Diabetes is a major health concern and with a family history of this disease you are being proactive in taking charge of your health.

According to your starting weight, if you are to be getting in 1800 calories a day it would be about 19 grams of fat per meal.  Use this as a guideine.  You do not need to force yourself to reach the limit, but stay in the range.

As you start losing weight, you will be required to eat less calories and fat.  Now is the time to adopt healthier eating habits and to start incorporating fruits and vegetables and eliminating processed foods which contain a great deal of sugar (prevention of diabetes and insulin tolerance).

You will find friends and support here.  The first day is the hardest day, you took that first step.

    Best of health.

Re: hi, today is my first day on alli and looking for some friends

     hello all,

Today was not my best day.  I had seat back.  I have been taking Alli now for almost 4 weeks now, but this is the first week for me with the Alli plan.  Its getting a little hard for me now.  My husband is away right now, ( almost a mouth now) i really dont have any real friends out where i live, so it very hard for me to do it alone right now. My weak time is at night.  I try to stay busy during that time , but at times its hard.  So anyone needs friends right now, i am your woman!!! I need them for sure!!  Good luck everyone.

Wow!  That's great.  I began the change of diet Sunday.  I start taking Alli on Wednesday.  I'm looking forward to this.  I'm at 207 lbs right now.  My weight lost goal is 32 lbs, but my realistic weight lost goal is 10 lbs.  Anyone can add me to their circle of friends.  We're all in this together!

Re: hi, today is my first day on alli and looking for some friends

Love the picture of the Chihuahua!!!  What a cutie!!! I started the low fat plan last Wednesday and started taking Alli on Friday.  Lost ten pounds already!  I"m sure it's a lot of water weight, but I'll take a loss anyway I can!  No "treatment effects" as of yet.  Staying well below the recommended fat grams per meal and still enjoying my food.  I too love my "ice cream" fix, and I"ve found a product called "Skinny Cow" which has ice cream cones and ice cream sandwiches which are very low in fat and calories and satisfy my cravings.  I also eat fat free sherbert which helps too.  I am 6" and currently 316 pounds.  I had a hysterectomy 7 years ago and quit smoking and the weight has just piled on since then, over 100 pounds!!!.  I find it hard to walk up stairs without getting out of breath and my blood pressure is way up.  I don't like what I see in the mirror any more.  I've always been the skinny girl on the block, with the flat stomach.  Not anymore!  Tried Weight Watchers but get tired of counting points.  Lost 65 pounds on Atkins a few years ago, but once I got off the diet, the weight came back on quickly.  I can't take diet pills, they give me panic attacks.  I have very high hopes for Alli.  I've found Progresso Light Soups very satisfying for lunch with some Light fruit cocktail for dessert while at work.  I sit in front of a computer all day so I get very little exercise during the day.  I have English Muffins in the morning with a cup of tea with low fat cream cheese and a banana.  I also have one container of Activia.  Been eating skinless chicken breasts for dinner with lots of broccoli and cauliflower.  I found a great Mexican taco dip at Sams that's only 45 calories per two tablespoons and very low in fat!!! That helped get me through the weekend when everyone else was eating.  I"m from New Orleans so staying away from the fried shrimp, fried catfish, jambalaya, gumbos and etoufee is hard.  I always do great the first two weeks on a diet and then it's usually down hill from there.  Appreciate any encouragement also!!!
