    Nutrition 1157/41/127 / Cardio - 50 min spinning class plus some stretches ... I'm currently avoiding upper body workouts because I have strained muscles in my neck and upper back ... hope to get some help with that from a doctor in the next couple of days. 

    Kathy and Dee - Sounds like you're doing great.  Bonnie - I know that "boca" is Spanish for "mouth" because I live in Florida and we have locations that include "Boca" in the name.  There's "Boca Raton" on the SE coast of Florida and "Boca Grande" on the SW coast.  Both are named for their shoreline's shape "Mouth of the Rat" (really) and "Grand" or "Large" Mouth (as in Harbor).

     hi ladies.. ok i am back from the gym..i feel like i am back on track now... i rode my bike to and from work today, did 15 minutes of elitical machine (and workin it too!!)..concentrated on my arms today and core with the weight machines and did 75 crunches on the ball..jane.. i hope you get some relief from the doc...its really good that you are still working out what you are able to do though..its good to stay in the habit and its way better than staying home and slacking!!  have you been measuring yourself??.. i bet you have seen some results..especially since you have lost 4# lately!! yes!!!!!you know i am rootin for ya, right??!!

        and miboca.. yes-- wi for 45 minutes is absolutely better than nothing... keep workin it!! i promise.. down the line you will be amazed at how much better you feel!!   kathy

     Nutrition 1510/57/109.  No exercise today ... too much work and too much stress about work. 

    Kathy - Sounds like you're doing well.  Yes ... thanks for the encouragement.  I've done some measuring and I am losing inches.  I discovered this relatively simple way to measure ... just measure my waist, hips and neck ... so much easier than trying to measure something like my bicep by myself ... so I'm measuring those 3 areas weekly.  I don't know if losing 6 lbs. in about a month was a fluke or if I could lose 4 to 6 lbs. again this month ... it would be nice!  A strange at the gym walked up to me and said "You're doing so well, everytime I see you, you look better and better."  That sweet gal made my day! - Jane

     jeepers, jane i am sorry.. you have lost 6# recently...have you figured out what you have done differently??  and i am glad that strangers are noticing.. it kinda gives you that "atta girl" that we need when frustration hits..  i measured  my bicep, my thigh, my knee and my waist, hips, and butt..(hey my butt sits lower than my hips..i counted my hips as about 3" below my naval..bust measurement and right under the bust (where the bra band sits)..the neck is a great idea!..i look at that chart every once in a while..its amazing!!

        today i just rode my bike and did yard work for a while.. (hey it was date night).. i figure that now that i am at my goal i can back off the daily workouts and cut it down a bit..i really dont want to lose much more..i am still eating like i would take an alli pill though..  i wish i could  do something about your work stress..(i bet you do too)....you keep up that weight loss now.. and for heavens sake, if you cant make it to the gym, substitute a short walk or something else.. i bet you get more moving in than you think!..i think that as you lose more weight, you will feel like doing more..hey, lets face it, its easier when you are lugging around less all day..think about carrying around a 5 lb bag of sugar all day..you did that all last month!!  .kathy

    Nutrition 1597/100/88 Cardio - 45 min elliptical - no strength training - post fender-bender - babying my neck a bit ... I just want it to settle down.

    Kathy - This time of year, my husband joins a golf club.  It's off-season here (hot and all the snow birds are gone).  I can use the golf club's gym, so it's easier to get in a good workout on Saturday and Sunday (the gym near my office is further from home and has very short hours on Sunday).  So last month, I got in at least one extra good workout a week. 

    Overall, last month, I reduced my calories, too.  I also used another site to track food.  Alli's food tracker consumes quite a bit of time.  

    Last month, the work stress and my hours were down, too.  But this month, the stress is back; management doesn't want to give me the demotion (uh ... thanks ... I think). However, they are starting to see that there are elements that cause serious problems, so I believe they'll eventually do something, but it's stressful while it's going on.  

    Thanks, for the encouragement.  I was amazed when this women at the gym gave me that compliment.  When I started using this gym 3 years ago, I hobbled in there on a cane to do the only thing I could do, ride the recumbent bike.  Sometimes one guy would talk to me, but, otherwise, everyone there at 6 AM ignored me. You sound like you're doing fine ... you've really incorporated the healthy aspects into a lifestyle and you're doing great!

     I think I ate reasonably okay but I took the day off from tracking.  Post-fender-bender, I'm trying to get back into the exercising. 45 min elliptical but no strength training. Everyone have a great weekend. - Jane

    jane...you are a wonder woman!!!..i have to confess i have been slacking..other than riding my bike and working in the yard  and walking alot..i have not been to the gym too much lately..but if it makes you feel any better, i have felt a bit guilty about it!!  it has been so nice outside lately, its just hard to go in and get sweaty..ok thats enough excuses.. you are inspiring me to get back there and try and keep up to you.....and hey.. where is everybody else??? i bet you feel like you are talking to yourself!!.kathy

    Hi Kathy - Yes, I do feel like I'm talking to myself.   I do wish some other ladies would join us here and stay with it.  If you're outside and active over the summer, that should be fine.  The winter time is when I take the day off from the gym and go for a beautiful walk somewhere.  Where you live, you have ideal conditions for that now.  Our weather is the reverse ... now it's hot, humid and buggy outside.  So we hide inside in the summer and you did it in the winter. - Jane

    OK- I have been tracking this thread for a little while- and decided to jump in :)- If I am tracking my eating and work outs like crazy- I might as well share :)...

    SO for 7/12/09:

     Nutrition 1506/43.5/ (what is the 3rd number you are tracking?)

    Activity- 7 miles at a local lake of interval training- running/walking Calories burned was 890 (according to my super cool Nike+ gadget thing :)) Then 2 hours of playing in the pool with the kids (No more sitting on the side for me- now playing hard and swimming laps during break time!)

    Am a little sore from the 7 miles- but am training for a 5K in Oct, a 10K next July, and ultimate goal is the Disney half- marathon in January of 2011.

    welcome!   yaayyy jane,  we have company!  ok i am getting back on the wagon.. i rode my bike to work and back and i am for sure going to the gym today..i kinda slacked off this weekend and other than walking alot.i didnt do much...no weight training at all, BUT, i did eat only good stuff.. i had some chicken and fish  and fresh fruit and fresh veggies abd salad ... no junk!!  i am doing ok in the food department..i am at a point that i should be able to maintain without having  long daily workouts.. what i need to do is get in at least a short one every day and maybe a couple of serious ones during the week..i have to see how that goes..gotta run... later.kathy

    no, you're not talking to yourself. i love your posts and Kathy's too. You all are great and Vienna too.

    I'm just all over the map. i've lost one friend Shellita and one friend Maggie88 and can't find them anywhere. what am i doing wrong?

    Today i did 45 minutes of mfc/upper body but it felt like cardio, later i went for a 1 mile walk with my Davidson/dog, he loved it. Wearing my pedometer a lot. Eating well, staying within my points/calories, fat grams.

    today i lost one whole pound, might have been  more but that pesky monthly visited yesterday and probably left me with a pound or three of water weight. It could be worse and i could be stuck with menopause and a slower metabolism. i kept telling my doctor i wanted perimenopause cause then no period but so many people i talk to say take the period till you can because menopause slows you down then you have to take supplements and the dangers and all that. it's all so confusing but i think i'll use the cream when i get there. i don't want to do anything too drastic but i want my metabolism too. no operations for me either unless i absolutely need them. no augmentation, no lifting or tucking. just not for me because i'm saving all my operations for the future. just in case. lol/tongue in cheek, but it could happen.

     Hi Kathy, Nita and Vienna,

    It is nice to have a larger group.  Dee started this thread and maybe she'll join us again at some point.  I think she had a couple of posts about moving from one town to another so that may be why she hasn't posted.

    It does sound like all of you are working hard!  Vienna, the third number I track is my carbs.

    Nita - I don't know of a Shellita.  Maggie88 posted a few times on the 50 Somethings Section but then I never saw her post again, so it may not be something your doing or not doing.  Maggie88 may have just stopped using the website.

    Well, I just turned 59 and I'm menopausal and I've had my share of surgeries, mostly repairs that went on for about 2 1/2 years as a result of an auto accident, but I'm still among the living, on this side of the grass instead of checking out the grass' root system, so that's what counts!!  Here's wishing everyone a nice week ... I hope everyone continues to post!

     hi ladies.. yep i DID get to the gym today..ok i admit it, i feel better (and not as guilty)..i only did 15 mins on the eliptical machine  (level 10) today , BUT i rode my bike to and from work today, so thats my cardio.. worked on mostly arms today with my core work..as far as my legs go..i just worked on my calves..i am 56 and i am menopausal too.. i had a few surgeries too (none of them recently, thank heavens)....you ladies stick with jane and me... we are getting  buff together!!!.kathy
