Nutrition: 1710/63/136 Cardio: 45 min spinning class. No strength training.

Hi Becki - I can relate to your friend thinking that you had cancer ... I guess to that store clerk ... every woman who has lost weight is a potential chemotherapy patient until proven otherwise!

hi Olga - Some of the veggies you can't eat are good sources of iron.  Red (kidney) beans are a good source, but you probably can't have them.  I think raisins are a good source, too but you probably can't have that.  My iron intake runs a little on the low side, too. I don't eat a lot of red meat.  That's a source from which our systems more readily asborb the iron.  If you're not allergic to mollusks, clams are a good source of iron.

    Re: Mon

    Hi Jane,

I can have raisins.  In fact, I've been meaning to plan out a breakfast with oatmeal and raisins, but, I haven't gotten around to it.  You must have this diet, exercise & nutrition thing down to a science, but, I'm still a bit overwhelmed, not just by the stuff I'm learning and by the hours I spend every day on exercise and on planning and preparing my meals, but, also by the fact that I'm behind on everything else because of taking those hours out for my alli goals.  Yesterday courts were closed, so, I decided to tackle housework at home first.  I had every single one of my dishes and bowls and mugs and all the cutlery all dirty in the kitchen sink and overflowing all over the counters along with a ton of my pots and pans soaking.  I washed all those yesterday.  My husband was also low on laundry, so, I did a few loads for him and even folded most of it and put it away in his dresser drawers.  I was still working on laundry into the night.  Unbelievable.  But, at least now I'm closer to caught up on housework, and, last week I made some progress at the office.

Anyway, I really appreciate your tip about the raisins.  I'll have to focus on planning that breakfast a bit sooner.  I do eat red meat, and, in fact, on weekends I was making pasta with tomato and meat sauce one night and sirloin steak another night, but, even on days when I eat red meat, the highest I would reach on the iron was 60% of my daily recommended amount.  I am hoping that the multivitamin I'm taking before bed keeps my levels O.K.  I'm going to my doctor in a few weeks, and, I'll have her test my iron level in my blood and also my liver function.

I'm not allergic to mollusks.  I don't know that I've ever had clams other than in clam chowder, though.  If I see any recipes in my new books that include clams, I will try them out.

    Re: Mon

    Jane,

Speaking of iron, I was just planning out my meals for the day to make sure I left enough calories for a dinner of spaghetti and shrimp with crushed tomatoes and garlic that I've been meaning to make since Sunday night.  That's one of the things that I cook that is from the alli Healthy Eating Guide and that my husband likes.  When I finished planning out the day, I saw that I was at 80% of my recommended amount of iron for the day, so, I clicked on each item individually to look over the iron content.  The dinner had 65% of my iron, mostly from the shrimp.  My lunch had 10% of my iron (a frozen meal and a salad), and, my breakfast had about 5% of my iron (cheese, whole wheat bread, cottage cheese & pineapple).  I can't have the shrimp meal too often, both to watch my cholesterol and also because shrimp is expensive, but, at least now I know that it's a pretty high iron choice.  :-)

    Tues

Nutrition: 1638/42/98 No cardio or strength training

Olga - I checked a box of raisins and it said that 1/4 cup had 6% of the somebody's daily iron requirement.  That isn't that terrifically high and it's probably fairly high calorie though it's good to keep in mind.  I drink a protein drink.  The one I buy, each serving gives me 8% of somebody's daily iron requirement, so that helps.  Like me, you probably don't eat a lot of grain products.  Many of them are fortified with iron but many of them also have saturated fat, lots of calories and lots of carbs.  You can enter your the iron from your vitamin as a food and enter one everyday to track what iron that adds.  That would probably give you some peace of mind.

    Re: Tues

    Jane,

That's a good idea about entering the vitamin into the meal tracking!

I have a slice of whole wheat bread about once or twice a day.  I have pasta once a week that I cook myself and once or twice as part of frozen meals each week.  I don't usually eat crackers, and, I only have Cocoa Pebbles as a treat/snack (without milk) since starting my alli diet.  So, you're right, I don't eat a lot of grain products.  My carbs are usually fruits and veggies.

    Re: Wed and Thurs

ok so I forgot to add this thread and couldn't find it lol.  I've been looking everyday.  now that I found it, I'm very excited.  I had my first wiegh in on monday, and I didn't lose any pounds.  I'm a little discouraged, but not too bad, because I feel my breathing is easier when I'm walking, and I got my period on tuesday.  Not that I'm starting this with excuses, but I bloat really bad during that week.  So I am thinking this Monday will bring better results.  I'm still outside walking even tho is it freezing here.  (Wisconsin).  I'm usually a hibernater, but I'm forcing myself to get out there and walk, and I'll tell you, the cool weather actaully makes me walk faster, so I've been going a little farther.  I feel pretty good.

    Wed and Thurs

Wed 1771/70/84 Cardio 15 min elliptical and Strength training - lower body workout

    Thurs 1869/61/194 No formal exercise

    Hi Olga and Kelly

Olga - It does sound like a good idea for your doctor to check your iron level.  It's hard to tell how much we're getting from foods and vitamins and how much we're absorbing.

Kelly - Glad you found us again.  If you feel better, then even if you haven't lost any weight yet, you're already gaining advantages of a healthier lifestyle ... so keep up the good work!  It can sometimes take a couple of weeks for some weight loss to show up when you shift your eating habits and start taking Alli.  I lose slowly ....  lots of times only about a lb. a month, but I've been doing it for a couple of years, so it does add up to worthwhile weight loss over time.  I have a gimpy leg.  When I vacationed with my husband in May, I sometimes needed some help because my leg is somewhat erratic and weak.  However, I'm on the elliptical machine about 5 days a week, and my cardiovascular system is in much better shape then my husband's.  That was a real revelation to me!

I'm traveling this weekend. I expect I'll post tomorrow night.  I don't know if I'll have internet access on the weekend.  I'll be staying in a hotel.

    Kelly,

I think you have a really great attitude.  Some people panic or get upset when they don't lose weight because of their cycle.  Definitely it can cause you to *gain* a few pounds and it can cover up several pounds of weight loss.  I think you have the right attitude, and, you'll see that next week you'll have lost weight!  And, it's great that you're walking outside even though it's freezing!

    :-)

    Sat

Traveling ... need to estimate when I post foods ... according to my food tracker ... 1455/76/95.  The fats are so high because I estimated 6 oz of steak, some olives and 1 1/2 T of olive oil for my dinner.  Don't know how much steak I ate ... hope it wasn't that much because I took an Alli pill with the meal.

Olga - OK, hope everyone doesn't dislike me after I state my line of work ... (this never goes over well during cocktail party chit-chit), I'm a tax audit supervisor ... I supervise auditors.  It was a long, hard and boring day.  We traveled today ... found some internet access ... we're traveling home on Monday afternoon.

Re: my last post, my reference to a long, hard and boring day was about working over 12 hours on Friday and not about traveling on Saturday.

Nutrition: 1950/79/195 Still traveling, still eating in restaurants, still taking Alli, still estimating.  Things get back to normal on Tuesday.

Exercise: 20 min - combination of time on the elliptical and treadmill that the hotel has.  Did some walking at an easy pace ... probably about a 1/2 hr. total. Did some lower-body strength exercises ... not a lot but at least it's something.

    Re: Sun

    Hi Jane,

Well, I don't have any negative thoughts about your job.  I'm a lawyer, and, that's often a profession that attracts a lot of negative opinions.  Also, my best friend from high school is an attorney . . . for the IRS.  She's a good person, a real "do-gooder" who not only does hours and hours of community service through the Junior League, but, she also teaches at the law school, and, gosh-darn-it, she's managed to get thinner than she was in high school and stay that way!!!

I ate out on Saturday twice, and, it's always a learning experience, but, I was still pretty shocked.  I had a steak and cheese sub, pretty big, both large-ish halves, at an Italian restaurant and half a slice of pizza.  Then for dinner I had a Thai soup, 6 jumbo shrimp, and, 3 Thai donuts dipped in condensed milk.  I had no idea, and, I mean NO IDEA, how bad the Thai food was going to be diet-wise.  I didn't take an alli pill with either meal.  I had to estimate calories, but, each meal was about 70 or more grams of fat, and, they were over 1700 calories each.  And, the Thai food was incredibly high in sodium, if the online calorie counter information, like on dailyplate, can be trusted.  I don't love Thai food.  My husband loves it, and, we had not eaten Thai food in forever.  So, I wanted him to have something he wanted.  Frankly, I thought that since I just had soup and the dessert and the 6 jumbo shrimp, you know, no noodles or rice or anything, that it wouldn't be too bad.  No more Thai food for me!!!  And, I'll be careful with any Asian or ethnic food.  Darn.  I love all kinds of ethnic food.  Oh well, you live and learn.  My calorie counts below are estimates:

Sat. 10/3:  3700/171/321, 30 minutes of strength-training and cardio with the EA Sports Active and 30 minutes of cardio with the Wii Fit free step workout

Sun. 10/4:  1480/55/177, 30 minutes of strength-training and cardio with the EA Sports Active and 20 minutes of cardio and balance exercisese on the Wii Fit.

     Hi Olga and Jane

Olga, I have been so worried about you!  I had not seen or saw any posting from you on the threads where I first met you.  I thought you had gone away.  Maybe if I had known you were an attorney I would have been nicer to ya. lol.

I worked in the Chancery Court office here for about 8 years and I also went into business for myself serving civil summons and etc.  I loved those jobs.  I should have had my butt kicked for quiting the office at Chancery Court.

I thought my family was screwed up but after dealing with some problems there I found I had the ideal family. lol

Jane, I have the very deepest respect for you.  I am bowing as we speak. lol

You both have worked very hard to get where you are.  That is great.

Olga have you heard anything form sugarpuddy????
