    HI brownie1,

There is nothing more important than jumping back on the wagon when you realize you've gotten off, and getting the support and encouragement to see you through it!

Take it day by day, making one good decision after the next, and you'll find yourself meeting each of your goals.

Stay connected and best of luck to you!

    Your friend in fitness,

    Kelli

    Re: New Year New Start

As with every new year I promise myself to get healthy and lose weight.  However, with this new year I'll turn forty, and frankly I'm tired of being heavy. After my third child  I carried an extra  30 lbs for nine years, then became pregnant with my fourth child and added another 35 lbs to that.  He just turned 3 a couple weeks ago and here I am wondering if I'll spend the next decade being tired and unhealthy.  In fact, it depresses me to think that my oldest child at 17 can't even remember me when I wasn't overweight.  So, I want to think I'm ready again and hope this year I can succeed!  I will succeed! Re: New Year New Start

I am going into 2009 at a healthy weight and pretty dang fit at 53 if I do say so myself.  More energy, I actually look at myself when I pass by a storefront rather then averting my eyes.

Went to the community Christmas potluck and had people coming up to me telling me how great I looked.

    Karen

    March 2008 203 lbs

Decmeber 2008 135 lbs goal weight reached!

    Re: New Year New Start

    Hi Beacrab,

Thanks for the message and for your honesty.  It is the first step in making a change and you sound like you're ready! Congratulations on your determination to be a healthier you!

You are right that you CAN do it!  I encourage you to take it one day at a time and make one good decision at a time. Set short term and long term goals and re-assess where you're at often.  Be sure to have the people in your life that you love keep you accountable, and do let them know that your plans are!  You'll need help, encouragement, support and more!

I also want to encourage you to stay very connected to the alli community by posting messages, starting new threads on different boards and utilizing all of the incredible tools that alli provides.  Make sure you go to "myactivity" and check out the cardio and strength training forums to help you with your exercise program.

With the help of alli, a good clean diet, and regular, structured exercise, you will see positive results!

Best of luck and in health,

    Kelli

    Re: New Year New Start

I'm in.  I am restarting Alli on 1-2-09 and the pills on the following Monday.  I have not done anything in quite a while and really am sick and tired of looking at the same person in the mirror everyday and not being happy.

~ ; ) Linda G. : ) ~ It didn't go on overnight and I will not get it off overnight.  I've got to take it one day at a time!!!!!

    Re: New Year New Start

I'd love to join you - what is the challenge going to be?  Do each of us set our own, or should we find one to share as a group?

I just started Alli right after Christmas, and my two biggest downfalls are:

    1) Eating when no one is watching

    2) LEFTOVERS (I adore them)

    3) Sticking with a plan

I think a good group goal would be for us to stick together for the whole year, and we can take it a month at a time.

    Re: New Year New Start

I started my Alli again (after a few weeks off) on Christmas Eve.  We got a Wii for Christmas from the in-laws and today I bought My Fitness Coach!  I already did the first session and I'm feeling great!  I intend on keeping it up and getting this extra weight that I've been carrying around for 10 years OFF for GOOD!!!

    Re: New Year New Start

COUNT ON ME - and count me in for a healthier, happier and successful 2009.  I did the program a year ago and was disappointed with a 14 pound loss over the course of seven months - 1600 calories a day and bike riding at least 5 times a week.  January first starts it all again, but this time, with a mental diet as well:

    1)  Use the "just for today" method of thinking - today I will try to eat carefully, exercise and stay busy.

    2)  No more obsessing about long-term goals not necessarily reachable. Five pounds at a time only.  PATIENCE is a virtue, even if it is highly over-rated.

    3)  Days/months don't count.  It took me years to put it on and it won't come off in weeks. REALISM !

NEW GOALS - As I near my 60th birthday, I want to look better, feel sexier, walk easier (knee replacement done) and be happier, which means being thin and having great self-esteem:

    1)  Bike 300 miles a month; either 10 every day, 12-13 five times a week, or whatever it takes to meet that exercise goal. I pretty much do that, anyway.

    2) Portion control is a new skill I must learn well.

    3) Making habits of good choices that will satisfy me rather than make me feel punished.

See???  It's as easy as 1-2-3!

    Re: New Year New Start

     Okay..

You're on!  My name is Jan, I am a 56 year old female. I am fairly active and love to ride my bike also, the problem is I live in Michigan and outdoor excersize in the winter is difficult. I have signed up for two days of water areobics at the local college. I plan to supplement that with pilates and walking my dog when the weather allows.

I currently need to lose about 80 pounds. I have been through this many times before and each time the weight comes back. So I am much better at losing than maintenance :-))  I will weigh in on Wednesdays and report my progress and hope the group can help support me when I crave chocolate!

    Re: New Year New Start

I'm in.  I "lazily" restarted after a year plus hiatus from Alli just a week before x-mas.  Since Jan 1 I am motivated and in it.  I did my first workout in months today and am looking forward to building my activity levels up again.  For the most part I eat fairly healthy.  I have off times, and will gain weight quickly and easily if I have a weekend of binging.  The thing I know I need to focus on the most is getting moving.  I find myself not even wanting to leave the house sometimes and it's getting worse.  So it's time to nip it in the bud.  I know once I start exercising again, it will be easier to motivate myself to do more things with others and with my daughter.

    Re: New Year New Start

Count me in too. I just signed on to MyAlli for the first time today and I'm leaving inabout an hour to get my 1-2-3 starter kit. I just saw the commercial on TV this morning and said you know what today is the day to get started. I've don other 'diet' lans and excersized on and off. Heck I pay a monthly gym membership but haven gone in months. There is nothing stopping me but me so now I'm getting out of my own way. But I know I need a support system. My co-workers are great, but I'm changing jobs at the end of the month so I won't have them to count on everyday. It would be nice just to have some one to check in with from time to time (or daily if I get the time with a full time job, husband and 3 kids all under 10). I'm not exactally sure how the plan works but I think I have the gist of it. Any helpful hits anybody?

I suggest after you get your starter pack and read through all the information, then post specific questions you may have.  I also highly reccomend that you do keep a food and activity log whether it's the ones offered here or some other program.  That for me is one of the single most helpful tools in my weight loss.  I also encourage you to get a digital food scale it is very helpful while you learn to eyeball portions.  My other favorite tool is a pedometer that i wear all day long.  You track how many steps you do in a day, and then try to increase your average over time.  It gives me an honest guage of how active I'm being.

Good luck, you've made a great first step.
