Getting tired of Fat Free Italian dressing with every salad?

My uncle (gourmet chef) shared this recipe with my family this weekend. I realized that it was fat free due to not adding oil, and it was absolutely delicious! I thought I would share it here. It definitely will make you forget about regular FF Italian.

Buy the Good Seasons Italian dressing mix (get a four pack), buy a good balsamic vinegar and a rice wine vinegar. I also bought the good seasons dressing mix bottle. Don't follow the directions on the packet, do this:

Mix 1/2 cup balsamic, 1/4 cup rice wine vinegar, 1/2 cup plus two tablespoons water, and 3 packets dressing mix into a small sauce pan, or microwave safe bowl (preferably a measuring cup with a spout). Heat to just before boiling... Let sit until room temp, then pour into a bottle and keep on your counter or in pantry (don't refrigerate).

There is no oil in it, so no fat, and it won't go rancid in your pantry. You can add a tbsp or so of oil to your salad then top off with this dressing, or skip it all together. I made it yesterday, and it is sooooo good.

Beleave it or not there are other dressings out there for us to try besides FF Italian, there is lite french ,lite 1000 island, lite blu cheese, even lite ranch, you can also find FF dressingyou just have to look close, you have to be willing to look for them and make sure that they don't push your fat grams over the requirment ,as a matter of fact if you cut back a few grams on one thing, you can add it some where else. but you will miss the FF Italian like I did.

I LOVE Ken's Dressings (Lite) - they're ALL really good - and if there is fat in there - I adjust everything else down - I've been logging into "My Favorites" a TON of ingredients I use for everything (and check the calories of the recipes on here once in a while - they're pretty accurate with my ingredients) - all down to Cheerios, 1% milk, alpine lace swiss, cappicole, EVERYTHING I use - it makes it alot easier than building the recipe then breaking it down to serving size (I make the same thing for all of us) -

I really like the Uncle Ben's microwaveable rice - they're really good - easy  - and low on cals/fat.

I also found a bacon that's half the calories of most - it's a reeally thick - John Morrell....

    Good luck!

I just mx together some salsa, some balsmic vinegar, and some low sodium soy sauce---about a tablespoon each of the liquids and 2 tablespoons of the salsa. Its sweet, sassy and spicy all at the same time and makes plain greens taste awesome.

Re: Getting tired of Fat Free Italian dressing with every salad?

I have roasted some grape tomatoes with some balsamic vinegar.  I sort of mash them after they have roasted and put on top of salad.

I also learned a dipping method.  Where you place some dressing in a small bowl or on the side of your plate and dip you lettuce into the dressing.  Now keep in mind you don't place the whole fork in the dressing it is more like a dab in the dressing.  You won't each as much dressing.

The restaurant go to doesn't have low fat versions of dressings so I have them bring it on the side and I probably use 1/2 a tablespoon for the entire salad by using that method.

Since I also don't like the fat free dressing (they taste sweet to me) I normally do the dip method.  Plus I have never been one to like my salad swimming in dressing.  My family picks on me about having a little dressing with my salad or that they need a magnifying glass to find the dressing on my salad.  I probably use about 1/2 tablespoon of dressing to 3 cups of lettuce.

My ex-MIL would just squeeze lemon on her salad.
