Hi Kimber,
This is Unicornpookie, Angel's mom. To answer a few questions.... We don't really follow any of the diet "meals" they put on the site. We have adjusted our day to day eating to keep within the guidelines. Yes, we have both been on Alli for 2 and 1/2 months. She has lost 31 pounds, I have lost 35 as of yesterday. I am 48, with a very underactive thyroid. I can look at a candy bar and gain thirty pounds from it. LOL Honestly, though, I can. We stick to diet things, like Crystal lite drinks, and low fat/carb stuff. My hub is a diabetic so in a way, we were kinda geared up to make the change. What we can eat on the Alli plan, or as our daily choices without going over the calorie/fat counts, hub can eat too. And with my getting ready to go back to school, via the government due to my military disability, it's going to be really interesting. We stick to the protein bars, and stuff like that, but also eat well rounded meals too, just cut the fat and portion sizes. There really isn't much to have to change what you already eat, unless you are on high carbs/fat, then yeah, you have to.
As for my thyroid, when I was 20, it was almost nill. The doctor thought I had mono. Get a load of that one. LOL Luckily, I remembered being treated for under active thyroid when I was a kid, I had to take plain iodine drops..yuck. After a week of me up all night drinking water, mom called the doctor, he said take me off it, and that was it. I was sleeping 14 hours a day, up for half hour, and sleep for another 14. No problem. There was even one time I went to bed Monday night and didn't wake up once, not even to go to the bathroom, until Thursday of that week. I had to call work and say I was sorry for not showing up, but they reminded me I was on vacation. LOL So yeah, memory loss is also part of the low thyroid. The doctor did a thyroid test, the T4 as they call it, and a mono check. It came back it was my thyroid. (check the page, turn it..lol) He immediately put me on thyroid meds, told me he didn't know how I was even walking, that I should be in the hospital, on an IV, and in intensive care being monitored. I was that close to being in a coma. Yes, not to scare you, but if you have an under active thyroid, you can quite possibly go into a coma and lose your life too. I checked things out over the net a lot on it, and keep up to date with a lot of medical stuff. I was six months from having full blown uterine cancer as well. So yeah, I watch a lot of things that we eat, especially my daughter and I, due to that, but also with cancer being a rampid running issue in my family, we have to be particularly careful. We just lost my son, her brother, two years ago this Wednesday to colon cancer. He was just 18. Two weeks before his 19th birthday. They found out it was cancer when he was 16, but linked it to his high blood pressure which he had since he was 12. 'Magine that one. Soooo this week is hard on us, but we will make it.
Don't be afraid to ask me or her about things, and you are not imposing. Hey, if we can help in any way, that's why we are here, along with helping ourselves too. K?? I go by UnicornPookie. My son use to call me his pookie bear, and I love unicorns. I didn't like the sound of pookie unicorn, so went with unicronpookie. LOL Anywho....Will let Angel, (Candi) chat at you. Nice to meet you and glad to be of help.
