    Candi,

You're the first person I've seen on these message boards who also scrapbooks!  Yay!  And, you play video games, too!  What video games do you play?

    Re: Alli and thyroid issues

     Hi Olga

Thanks for your understanding, it is quite traumatic for me, you are absolutely right.  I loose my motivation sometimes. it makes it difficult.  I have to pick myself off and dust myself off, and do things just for me, good things, like get that exercising in, and stop making excuses, I feel so much better after I do it, but when you get away from it, you start getting on your pity pot, and start feeling sorry for myself.  I have to remember how blessed I am, I have my health.  I have my Alli family.  I hope you don't mind if I add you to my circle of friends?  Today is my Hubby's birthday, maybe instead of getting him cake, I should prepare a Veggie and a Fruit Tray.  When he comes home from his long commute, he can have healthy snacks.  we are both in the same boat, we need to step it up with our exercise.  I make excuses for him, because he is a commuter and he commutes 2 hours each way, and I feel he just needs to rest.  I think his body would feel even better if he would exercise too.

Thanks for your post, it has given me a new insight on what I need to do, I really want to make this work.

I like Alli's suggestions for meals, they are pretty easy to follow.  I think my self esteem is down a little.  I need to perk it up and get myself in the shower this morning and get out to the store and start planning for a healthier lifestyle.

I even managed to loose 2 Lbs. again.

    Re: Alli and thyroid issues

    Hi Kimber,

I'm honored that you added me to your circle of friends!  :-)

Like your husband, my husband also needs to lose weight.  But, he's refusing to diet at all.  He says food is one of his few pleasures.  I obviously have problems with food.  I think I have had an addiction to food.  It's hard for me to try to recover from that while he's eating anything and everything.  Most of the time I'm fine with it, but, last night I was suffering a little watching him eat pizza.  Yeah, I could have a small piece of pizza, so, it's my own choice not to eat the pizza.  I just know that I can get a little more food by eating something that's not pizza.  And, frankly, eating just a small piece of pizza would maybe be even harder for me.  After getting a taste, it might be even harder to resist overeating.

Like you feel for your husband, I feel bad for my husband.  I'm self-employed.  So, I've just taken time out of my work schedule to exercise for over an hour each day every day and the eating/dieting takes a lot of time, too.  It takes me some time to plan my meals, it takes time to enter them into my food diary, and, because I don't want to go too long without eating, I come home for lunch, and, that takes an hour round-trip minimum whereas before I'd just go to the McDonald's next to my office and that was 15 minutes round-trip including eating time.  So, I'm able to cut all that time out of my work schedule, but, my husband has to work a regular job with regular hours and often over-time.  I don't know that I could keep this up on his schedule.  I don't do well with regular-schedule jobs like that.  For emotional and physical reasons, I need flexibility in my work schedule.  Plus, I do all the housework and bookkeeping for us and the cooking and cleaning and laundry, etc., and, again, I don't know that I could do all that if I had to work longer hours.

Kimber, hang in there, and, remember that you have every right to feel what you're feeling, so, don't feel guilty about your feelings.

As for planning, specifically the grocery store, I'm getting to where I have a master list of things that I need for a week, and, it's making grocery shopping easier.  I think it's easier than it was back when I wasn't dieting and did very little planning!  And, having the right food at home is the support I need in order to diet.  Before this diet, I was eating at restaurants almost all the time.  Now it's the opposite.  I've only gone out to restaurants two times in the past 5 weeks.  Let me tell you, I know have a greater appreciation for paying a little more at a restaurant!  I used to think, oh, heck, I could cook that for less money.  Yeah, sure, but, I also now have to wash a mountain of dishes all the time and pots and pans and bowls, etc.  Ugh!!!!   If you put a dollar amount on the cost of all the time spent washing dishes and pots and pans, then the restaurant meals are cheaper!  ;-)

Congratulations on losing the two pounds!

    Re: Alli and thyroid issues

My husband just got back from Target.  He said he needed soap and toothpaste.  I gave him a coupon for the toothpaste.  He comes back with a bunch of additional items--some of which I had coupons for, but, he didn't let me know he was getting them or needed them.  Among his additional items:  PEPPERIDGE FARM GIANT OATMEAL COOKIES!!!  It's so maddening!!!  It's so unfair, and, there's nothing I can do about it.  He insists that he's not dieting, so, he must have everything he wants whenever he wants.  But, now I have to see that bag of cookies every time I open the cupboard, and, I have to watch him enjoy eating them, and, I can't have them or at least not without sacrificing most if not all of a regular meal, and, even then I can't have as many as it would take to satisfy a craving for them.  Maybe I'll just try to take over more of the shopping to give him less of an opportunity to buy stuff that just makes it harder for me to diet and/or just makes me suffer to see it and be reminded of it.  I just feel that even if I do that, he'll stop at Walgreens on the way home and buy junk food.

On top of everything else, I don't have any health problems connected to my obesity.  My husband, however, has a higher BMI than mine, he lives an almost 100% sedentary lifestyle, and, he has high blood pressure, sleep apnea, heartburn, high cholesterol and other conditions for which he takes medicines that cost more than $1,000.00 each month.  Also, his knees are "bad," and the extra weight is not doing him any favors there, either.  Again, there's nothing I can do to get him to care more about his health.  I had one talk with him, he knows how I feel, and, anything more I say would just be nagging.  In fact, he was incredibly angry with me when I had the one talk with him, presumably because I had mentioned stuff about portion sizes to him a few times, but, I really only mentioned portion sizes because he complains that two or three times the servings I eat is not enough for him.  He insists that he must eat much more than me because he weighs more than me so he has higher needs.

Anyway, I'm frustrated . . . sorry for the rant.

     Dear Ready,

Thank you so much for your specific info.  I have hypo also.  My husband and I discussed taking the thyroid pill early in the am so that my body absorbed it before the alli pill.  Seems like we were on the right track.  Again thanks.

    Re: Alli and thyroid issues

    Hi Candi,

I now only "play" the Wii exercise "games."  ;-)

The last game I played was Little Big Planet and before that Animal Crossing.  I have also played Katamari a bit.  I have played some games on the DS like Nintendogs, Chibi Robo, Brain Age, and Clubhouse Games.  I've also used the DS for French Tutor.  Oh, and, I was playing Rock Band a lot for a while.  I used to play stuff on the Gameboy, too, and, a long time ago I played a few computer games.  I really haven't played anything since starting exercising and dieting every day, though.  It literally takes me an extra two to three hours a day to work out and to plan and make all my meals.

I haven't done any scrapbooking since starting my diet and daily exercise, either.  At some point I figure I will have more time and/or the diet/exercise thing will take me less time???  I hope????

    ;-)
