Hi Grammy. I'm a grandmother too. But my granchildren call me Nana.  I also just started today. I am wanting to get healthier and slimmer. I don't work outside the home because I watch my 3 grandchildren after school.I  And yes I am over 50. Just turned 60 last week. I am determined to lose this weight.  I had tried some other plans before but I am really hoping this one will really work this time. I am starting my walking program tomorrow. I am starting out slowly, maybe walking for about 30 minutes and then going to work towards walking for an hour. It will be great to have some added support here on the boards. Sometimes we need that little encouragement to stay on track and to keep exercising.

Hi Grammybird1:  I just started Alli, too and sounds like all of the posts you have received thus far have alot in common.  So far, I have you all beat with 10 Grandkids and 1 Great and another on the way.  I am older than you all at 67 but I feel young.....I need to lose 30-35 lbs. and would love to visit with all of you.  I think one of the main things is having a support system.  Good Luck to us all!

     Hi,

Just starting today also. Want to lose 95 pounds!!!! I'm 56 and a grandma of four. Getting ready to start a new carrer and want to feel better and have more energy. I'm finding it harder to diet as I get older.   The support system, and the opportunity to chat with others will be a huge help I'm sure. I'm looking forward to this ADVENTURE!

Re: I started alli today - Any 50+ grandmas need a buddy?

Hey, everybody. Sounds like we all have a lot in common. I did well this week. At least for me. I stuck to the calorie counting and the counting of the fats. I lost 3 pounds, so for me thats good. I had both knees scoped years ago and am doing everything possible NOT to have to have my knees replaced. I know it's in my future but I have to keep pushing it back further and further into my future. I'm still working and we need my income to stay afloat. But, the instant that becomes not so necessary I want to be ready for those knee replacements. I have 95 lbs to lose also so I'll be working hard til this is done. It's now become a challenge to me. And I will succeed!!! How did you all do this week?

Re: I started alli today - Any 50+ grandmas need a buddy?

Hi Grammybird1. Congrats on losing the 3 pounds. Every pound will count. I am waiting until tomorrow morning to see how much I have lost this first week. I am hoping for a good number too.  It seems that we all have a lot in common. I didn't get all of my water in these past few days so today I have tried extra hard to drink all that I can.  Some days it just seems easier than other days. I didn't get to do my walking because we have had some terrible rain storms for the last few days. But today it was sunny so i worked in the garden planting all my vegetables. I feel it in my bones tonight though. So hopfully that will count for not walking today. I am hoping to get back to my walking on Monday. Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

I'll send up some good thoughts for good luck to you. I read somewhere that gardening is good exercise. Besides, it couldn't have hurt anything!!! Have a great week. The drinking thing is hard for me too, though. I have an in home day care of 7 kids and getting in the bathroom is a hard thing to do for myself sometimes. ROFL.

Re: I started alli today - Any 50+ grandmas need a buddy?

Hey there, I am alli grandma of 4. I also have thyroid disease and have always had a very hard time losing. I don't excersise enough but I am making more of an effort. The first month on the plan I gained 3lbs becasue i was always on a low carb diet. Since begining to eat more carbs I gained but now I am begining to lose. Last week a i finally lost one lb but its good becasuse I didn't gain and I ate well. now I have to tweak and excersise more. i also stopped eating frozen meals as much. I cook fresh and eat a frozen lean cuisine or smart one meal when i am in  a rush. I think the sugar and salt in them had something to do with it. anyway stick with it, move a little everyday and cook meals, drink water and  I also started to take a vitamin daiy. In the begining i was so bloated too which seems to be better now. I had a few effects while I was away for a weekend because I didn;t stay away from high fat foods the whole time. Now I know how that can affect me while out, it wasn;t fun one day I spent the whole day in and out of the bathroom. I think its a learning process for anyone. I don/t eat the recomended amount of calories either because i am not excersising enough so I cut down to about 1400 but I DO take in the fat grams or very close to it. funny but i have to make my self eat. I also just stared taking greentea and hoodia tablets which flush out the water and curb the hunger cravings I feel sometimes. they really are helping.

    good luck grannys!

     Eliza

Welcome Eliza. Glad you are joining our group.  I checked in today and I lost 3 pounds. I am pleased with that. I haven't exercised like I should have so I am glad I lost the 3 pounds. I am seriously going to get my exercise in this week. Hopefully I will have a better loss next time.

Re: I started alli today - Any 50+ grandmas need a buddy?

Hi and welcome to the Alli program everyone.  I also am a gramma of 6, they call me Grammy.  I am 50 years old and I think I still act younger then I really am lol.  I also work from home so stuck to my desk for long periods of time. I have had several surgerys on my knee's and thought I could not do the exercise like I wanted to.  Since I started Alli on Jan 1st I have started doing the eliptical everyday.  Yes it was hard in the beginning, I could only go for like 5 minutes and thought I was going to die.  I have worked myself up to between 30-40 minutes a day and also added in Tae-Bo.  That was killer on me.  BUT since I have lost weight and have been very committed to the program it has worked wonders for me.  I have lost 19 pounds as of today.  It sounds like you all are well on your way to better health.  Stay committed, foucused, and determined and I know you all can do it.  With encouragement and support from each other WE ALL CAN DO IT!!  Good luck to everyone and have a great day!!

    Suzanne
