    Major Frustration!

I have been on alli for a month and change and the weight loss has been less than thrilling.  I am truly frustrated.  I am watching my calories, taking my pills, exercising and still I don't see much coming off.  I have only lost about 3lbs and that's in a month.  People as well as my wife say they have noticed my weight loss, but the scale tells me otherwise.  I have noticed my clothing is fitting better, but when will it show on the scale.  I have a fear that I won't see a marked improvement that i'll end up quitting.

    Re: Major Frustration!

If people notice that you are thinner, and your clothes feel better, maybe your scales aren't accurate? And anyway, would you want it the other way round (no-one notices that you are thinner, no clothes fit better, but the scales are dropping?) I wouldn't.

You are living healthier, and a healthier weight is in your future.

    Re: Major Frustration!

rwes10 - sometimes the scale can be decieving.  What kind of exercise have you added to your routine?  If you've been incorporating some weight lifting into program, you could be adding a little muscle while losing fat at the same time, so your body composition could be changing, but not necessarily on a scale.  You might want to try and measure certain areas of your body (legs, waist, across belly button, chest, and neck) once a month, or have a qualified individual measure your body fat once or twice a month, these are true indicators of your weight loss.  Your clothes fitting better are a really good indicator that you're making strides, so don't give up, I'll bet your heart is really happy with the changes you've made.

Good luck, and stay with it, we only get one body, we all should take care of it a little better.

Thanks.  I know there are no quick fixes.  I have tried them all.  I will stay the course and I will lose the weight.

    Re: Major Frustration!

That's what my wife said.  I just didn't want to listen because I thought she was just trying to be nice.  I have noticed a change.  I have gotten back into martial arts, added more cardio and lifting weights.  It's coming together.  I just need to be more patient.  I will knock the weight off and look my best.  I have 3 boys that need their dad around.  I don't like being the sterotypical overweight cop.  Not on my watch.  Thanks for the support.

    Re: Major Frustration!

Stick with the plan, you sound like you are doing the things you need to so that you will be successful. Have you used the journal to log what your food intake is? I know that was a real eye opener for me. I had tried all the other quick fixes too and thats why myself and the rest of us are here. The rate at which we lose weight or see results occur are at different  time frames for all of us. You will do great and with the weight lifting you know that you are replacing and burning the fat and replacing it with muscle. Hang in there you can do it, we are here and know what your going through.

Keep it up!!  Sometimes you have to take pride in the 'non-scale" victories.  If your clothes fit better and people are noticing a change, take pride in that!  Keep up the good work.  The scale will follow eventually.

    Re: Major Frustration!

    Dude,

I have been on the Alli plan since 1/27 and have lost 28 pounds..

For the last month i have been hanging around the same weight, and getting

very discouraged.  I was following the plan, working out, taking the pills, and

i was feeling 1000% better than i have since my 20's..

BUT, i get on the scales and only see a pound or two, and it's very discouraging..

After reading a lot of the posts on here, i decided to take measurments, and

relized my body is slowly changing, gaining muscle and losing fat.

a month ago, i noticed a stand still in my weight loss, and thought i needed

to change my work out (like my body was getting used to it).  I added strength

    training, and weights.

I didn't realize what i had done until i took measurments..  i was paying too

much attention to the scale, and not my entire body..

I started at 217 and i'm 186 now..  and feel the best i have in many many years.

believe me, i was discouraged with the scales too.

    Re: Major Frustration!

Very good points spike. You are maintaing weight. Considering many including me gained weight this year, you are doing well. I also notice that clothing will fit differently as you work out more. One comment that should be known is that while muscle does weigh more it will take some hardcore work to add many lbs of muscle. It takes quite some time. You hear about somebody who added 10 lbs of muscle to their bodies. That is a huge deal. It does not happen without alot of work and some time.

    Re: Major Frustration!

I know this is an older thread, but I wanted to pipe in with my 2c.  I have one of those fancy scales that tells me body fat percentage.  It's not nearly as accurate as the weight feature, and if you have different levels of hydration and don't measure yourself at the same time every day, it can swing around a bit.

Because of that, I track my weight & body fat percentage in a spreadsheet.  I use a 5-day rolling average for both numbers as my "actual" weight & body fat percentage.  I've noticed that when I've stabilized for a week or two in my weight, my fat % is going down, down, down.  On a daily basis, it might not look that way, but when you average it over a week, the numbers *should* trend downward.

Just a couple weeks ago, I couldn't even lose a tenth of a pound - but my fat % dropped considerable throughout a 2-week period.  Then all the sudden, I dropped 2 lbs in a day and, based on rolling averages, it all stayed off and I'm back to losing weight again.

Summarizing - if you have ways to monitor more than just sheer weight, body fat perecntage, water weight, etc. - those will help you figure out where your body is trending.
