Sugar - Welcome! And I am a big DMB fan, too! I find that sometimes their music doesn't get me moving very fast, but the long jam sessions keep me going for a long time. :)

Vinnie - Congrats on the weightloss so far- that's inspiring.

Tracy - Good for you for joining the challenge. I have a class tonight, but am hoping I can at least go walking tomorrow. :)

     Thank you very much

    Re: May ALLI Starters

    Good Morning!

Anyone have any words of encouragment?  I find that I don't have that stick-to-it gene when it comes to being healthy, but I do in almost all other aspects of life.  If I don't see immediate results, I want to give up.  Though I am enthusiastic about Alli, and I know that it works, it is starting to consume my thoughts!

Anyway, what do you do to give yourself peace of mind so that you can forge ahead with the program?

I'm a huge Dave Matthews Band fan. :D

    Re: May ALLI Starters

    Hi all!

Another May starter here! I started this past Monday (the 11th) So far, I have done a really good job with making good food choices.  I am starting at 265, and my ultimate goal is 160, so I have a lot to lose. I have had a really hard time getting motivated to stick with good eating choices in the past year, since everytime I do, I still don't lose, or even gain as well. I am hoping that Alli will help with that little boost I need to stay motivated.

I have been irratic with exercise too -- some weeks doing 5 days on my elliptical at 30 min a pop, and then going 2 weeks with nothing. So I am really hoping to slowly make some better habits.

Gross question (but I would guess with a drug like Alli, it is bound to happen):Yesterday, day 2, I had a lot of diarrhea, even though I think I only had 20-30g of fat all day and the day before (no more than about 12g at one meal). I am wondering if this is typical for just starting out and it will level off?  I didn't have any of the "uncontrollable" problems mentioned as treatment effects, I just had to go a lot.

Hoping to find some good support here!
    Karen

    Re: May ALLI Starters

I have found that my motivation is that I am TERRIFIED of TEs. I only had one moment where it could have been a problem, but it was OK. I have to go to a lot of receptions and business meetings with my job, so I am fanatical and about writing down every little thing. I have become a huge fan of the website The Daily Plate at Livestrong.com. I keep it up on my computer all day long and add items as I eat breakfast and snacks. I make decisions on lunch before I go out and then enter them when I get back. The other night, for a business dinner, the location was changed at the last minute to a mexican place. MEXICAN! Everything is fried! So I ate a side salad and one chicken soft taco. I had two tortilla chips and about two teaspoons of guacamole. I made sure to keep track of those, too. And I managed to keep within my fat targets. The Daily plate also has an app for the iPhone and a download for blackberries, so I have no excuse on keeping track.

Make sure that you are reaching your fat targets. Alli works best when you HIT your targets (just not over!) I have found that I have to go to the bathroom a lot more. But it's good. I would rather do that than it stay in my system.

My big problem is always hitting my fat grams. I find myself eating a few almonds or cashews at every meal, just to make it. It's starting to get boring.

    4lbs down this week!

Start Date: 5/5/09 - Weight to lose: 188

    1st Mini Goal: Lose 5% of body weight (18lbs) - 6/24/09

    2nd Mini Goal: Lose 17lbs - 8/24/09

    3rd Mini Goal: Lose 16 lbs -

    4th Mini Goal: Lose 15 lbs -

Milestone Goal: Lose 60lbs before my vacation cruise over Thanksgiving week

    Re: May ALLI Starters

    Carrena0426,

I'm having a hard time with hitting the target amount of fat grams, too!  I feel like I'm eating all the time.  lol.

I also had a bit of a scare (fortunately at home!) with the TEs...it is a very fine line to walk.

I know that you're supposed to take a pill with a meal, but what is too long before/after a meal to take it in case you forget?  I guess I am wondering b/c this morning, it's taking me a while to eat my breakfast, and I'm eating my yogurt 2 hours after I first ate my breakfast pizza. lol.  Will it still work?

I'm sure this is in some booklet somewhere. :D

    Re: May ALLI Starters

Sugar - I read in a post by the Alli Pharmacist that Alli leaves your system 2-3 hours after you take it. So it may not work in the same way right now. But if your yogurt is fat free, it won't really matter anyway. Count the yogurt as your morning snack and you're good. :)

I found that I eat the most at night, of course when I am home. :) So to fix that, I added an additional evening snack. As long as I keep each snack to 100 calories and 2.5g of fat or less (usually some pretzels for salt cravings - as I am on another med that strips salt from my blood, so I have to have extra sodium)

Below is my goal for Daily targets. I know that I am eating every 90 minutes to 2 hours, but I get grumpy when I get hungry, and I don't ever want to put myself into a situation where I will break down and just stop at McDonalds! Fast food is my greatest weakness, which is how I got where I am! I even keep snack bags of pretzels in the car, premeasured for serving size-- just in case!

    Breakfast 8am, 450cal, 15g fat

    Snacks 10:30a, 3p, 5:30p, 9:30p 100cal or less, 2.5g fat or less

    Lunch 12:30p, 500cal, 17g fat

    Dinner, 7:00p or 8:00p, 600cal, 19g fat

45 percent to 65 percent from carbohydrates

20 percent to 35 percent from fat

10 percent to 35 percent from protein

Start Date: 5/5/09 - Weight to lose: 188

    1st Mini Goal: Lose 5% of body weight (18lbs) - 6/24/09

    2nd Mini Goal: Lose 17lbs - 8/24/09

    3rd Mini Goal: Lose 16 lbs -

     Hey everyone!

I am so glad that a May thread got started... I started taking Alli on the 6th and had my first weigh in today. I'm down 4 lbs!!!! It's such a great feeling... I also just got back from the grocery store and realized that it takes me forever to go up and down the aisles because I have to examine EVERY nutrition label!

    Good luck!!!!

    Re: May ALLI Starters

    Hello Mayers,

I just bought my first bottle of alli today.! whoo hoo! I had my, "Last Supper" today.lol as I have had many. I am so excited and hope alli helps.  I am a nursing student and hope to receive my degree in a few years.  I have always wanted to be a nurse and don't want the weight to be in the way, as in, practice what you preach.

I have been on a low-fat diet this past week and had a Domino's hot wing attack on Mon but now I am ready to get on track.

I currently am 295 and a size 26/28 or 4/5x.  My long term goal is to be 140lbs. My mini term is to lose around 30lbs before the Fall 2009 semester.

    Good luck everyone!

    Start weight: 300 Current weight: 290 1st Mini-Goal: 275

    Re: May ALLI Starters

Hi everyone :)  I just bought my starter pack, and tomorrow I will start my plan.

I'm excited, but also really nervous, because I don't have a very good history of self control.  In addition to starting alli, I am also starting a pilates class... so hopefully the combination of exercise plus alli will make a difference. Dieting hasn't been enough for me.

    Re: May ALLI Starters

Welcome everyone and know that you have supportive friends here. As I work on this every day, I want everyone else to succeed just as much because I know that you can keep my enthusiasm going.

Like Sugar, I'm starting to worry that this is consuming my thoughts. But I think I am slowly getting to a new mindset.  Not of "This is something I think about", but "This is the way I think." Not "This is something that I am doing", but "This is what I do", it will become less of a mental effort.

Last night, I had a friend's birthday dinner - at a mexican place, of course - and chicken fajitas. I ate half of the plate and wrapped up the rest for lunch today. I had a little bit of guac. No cheese, no beans and no sour cream. No TEs. I truly believe I am learning to eat better.

For those who just joined, we are working on a challenge (ends on Sunday, I think) to excersize 20 minutes every day - walk, run, weights - whatever it takes. Just get moving! We hope you'll join us.

Start Date: 5/5/09 - Weight to lose: 188

    1st Mini Goal: Lose 5% of body weight (18lbs) - 6/24/09

    3rd Mini Goal: Lose 16 lbs -
