Re: May ALLI Starters/Tell us your favorite low calorie/low fat snacks!

HI  May ALLI starters!  Thought it might be fun and maybe beneficial :) to list some of our favorite low calorie/low fat snacks!  I know I have a few that I enjoy and just bought two new ones this week and both are great!  If you like carmel corn and chocolate than you must try Smartfood's popcorn clusters!  They come in three different flavors but since I'm a chocolate lover I chose the one with chocolate of course!  They only have 120 calories, 2 grams of fat, plus 5 grams of fiber!  Then second one taste just like the real thing!  If you like kettle cooked chips like crunchers, then you'll love Kettle Brand baked potato chips!  Most baked chips taste like cardboard but not these! YA bit expensive for such a small bag, but should last a little while if you only eat them on occasion as a special treat and only one serviing. You can have 20 chips with only 3 grams of fat!  Of course they're not healthy but they are low in fat and calories and sometimes we need a little bit of a change from our fruits and veggies. I also enjoy the Special K wheat crackers that have only 120 calories and  3 grams of fat in them and come in two different flavors (similar to Wheat Thins).

Would love to hear other people's ideas of some great low calorie/low fat snacks!

    Re: May ALLI Starters

    Hey everyone!

I just bought the Alli plan and am going to start it tomorrow.  I have been on a lowfat/lowcal diet now for a little over 3 months so I figured I can start right up on the pills after I have read all the literature on it to make sure Im doing it correctly.  As for the little challenge you guys have going, I say BRING IT ON!  20 mins of activity a day can't be that hard. I seem to do that every day. A good way I found out to get my exercise in is during my breaks at work, instead of sitting down and "chillaxing" I get up and walk around my building twice which equals 1 mile and I get it done in about 15 mins...just maybe 1 more time around during the day and Im set...Thank God for nice weather!! Anyways...I babble a lot...good luck everyone and lets keep May moving!!!

pwincess - What a great motto! Let's keep May moving!!

My water aerobics class is awesome. It's really kicking my butt (and abs and legs and arms, etc!) It's deep water, which means that you're in 9 feet of water and treading the whole time. My instructor says that it can burn between 20-25 calories a minute - it's a real workout without the strain.

Start Date: 5/5/09 - Weight to lose: 188

    1st Mini Goal: Lose 5% of body weight (18lbs) - 6/24/09

    2nd Mini Goal: Lose 17lbs - 8/24/09

    3rd Mini Goal: Lose 16 lbs -

    4th Mini Goal: Lose 15 lbs -

Milestone Goal: Lose 60lbs before my vacation cruise over Thanksgiving week

What a great idea! That popcorn sounds perfect. I have been having a hard time finding something low in calories, but still having some fat. I have buying too much fat free stuff. I have had a hard time meeting my fat targets, which I know is not an uncommon problem. I had been eating premeasured servigs of nuts at each meal, but its been getting boring.

So here are some of my favorite HIGH fat (but healthy) snacks :)   At Costco this week, I found Larabars: apple pie, cherry pie and cashew bars. I cut them in half and put them in snack bags in case I need to add something to my meals. A half of a bar is roughly 80-105 calories, but 4-6g of fat (all natural, nut and extra virgin coconut oil fats) and 3-4g of fiber. Each 1/2 bar is 1/2 serving of fruit, and it's dairy, gluten free. Vegan AND Kosher. Plus they taste good! I ate half of one this morning to kick my fat intake up to target.

I love cheese, but it's still possible to eat it. I like the weight watcher string cheese (1 stick = 60cal/2.5g of fat) and Cabot 50% light Cheddar snacks (3/4oz = 50cal/3.5 fat.)

We are doing great things, Team May!

Pondering:  Alli seems to only work for me when I'm eating up to my limit of fats, and showing *some* treatment effects...(the oiliness in stool).  Anyone else like this?  When I was eating super low fat, low calorie...I gained!  I started to eat regular food (watching porition size), and I'm seeing more results, just with the oiliness.  Ew! lol.

    So...anyone else?

PS--Billy Blanks is not my friend.  hahaha!

I'm a huge Dave Matthews Band fan. :D

     Two things -

    1) There are two kinds of fats. Good and bad, although they are both delicious! The good ones are the ones that our body needs to work - they are found in nuts, fish, avocados, etc. The bad ones are the ones found in fatty 'regular foods' like pizza and cheeseburgers. Even if you eat a small portion of regular food, it may contain a LOT more fats than you realize, causing treatment effects. Are you tracking EVERYTHING you eat, including the fat grams?

Try to find foods that are higher in good fats and working them into your diet to reach your targets. I HIGHLY recommend reading the post by the Alli nutritionist, it will help you LOSE rather than gain. http://community.myalli.com/forums/t/15130.aspx

    2) I was thinking about tryin Billy Blanks! I need to work on my core strength, so I can develop that flat tummy. Is it working?

I love Billy.  I mean, I sweat and work harder with him than I do with running.  It's good stuff.  Do it!

I guess my thing is this...I'm okay experiencing small treatment effects if I'm losing weight.  I wonder if people are seeing the same thing?

I think I will try it, thanks for the recommendation.

And in answer to your Q - no, I am not experiencing any TEs - been taking Alli for a week.

    Re: May ALLI Starters

    Hi everyone

I started my diet 2 days ago.  Its been really hard but I notice it becoming easier.  The hardest part for me is knowing that I cant eat anymore after dinner when Ive exceed my calories for the day.

I just took my first pill, wish me luck!

To Carrena above- I tried last year Ediets.  Loved the food as well & saw results.  However, I'm currently a student and after a while it exceed my budget.  :/

If anyone has great recipes, please share.

    Re: May ALLI Starters

I know exactly what you mean.  I'm really bad at keeping secrets and at first I didnt want to tell anyone that I was on diet nor that I was taking Alli.  On Thursday, I told 3 friends that I was going to start taking a pill to help me lose weight and of course the one friend (as suspected) began to "give her opinion." Ugh!  How frustrating!  She added that its pointless to use pills because as soon as I get off it, I will gain the weight.  blah blah blah

I seriously wanted to reach over the table and .... you know!  Why couldnt she just be supportive?  ugh

In the end, it made me mad and I felt that I couldnt even tell a friend.

The best of luck to you my friend. I always said that a true friend will be supportive. If someone for example is trying to quit drinking than a true friend wouldn't encourage them by asking them to accompany them to a bar. In this case, the friend should've said "I know you can do it and I'm here if you need me."

THe Larabars from Costco sound yummy!  My mom is a member there so I'll have to have her get me some.  I too am a big fan of cheese, especially all kinds of fancy cheddars and Harvarty's that you serve with wine.  Unfortunately, they're loaded with so much fat!  I'll also try the Weight watchers string cheese.  Perhaps putting with Kellogg's low fat wheat crackers maybe a good idea.  Thanks for your input!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: May ALLI Starters/Tell us your favorite low calorie/low fat snacks!

Yes, I also have the oily orange experience, whether I'm eating very healthy foods or some snacks that are not so healthly but still low in fat.  I'm not having major going to the bathroom problems, but whenever I do go, there is always some oily orange stuff (not to gross anyone else, just telling it like it is!)  Perhaps it all depends on your digestive system.  I've been on it for two weeks and along with exercise it has helped me lost 3.5 pounds total.  So, to me it's working!
