    Re: Having Trouble Exercising!!

First, congratulations on your weight loss. I can't wait until I can say I've lost 11 pounds.

Now, from one exercise "hater" to another, I will offer my advice. I would first suggest you find an exercise you love. There are soooooo many choices, surely you could find one you hated less than another. Kickboxing, swimming, walking, yoga. My next suggestion may be less popular, but I would say just do it! We all know it's good for us. The same as we would take an antibiotic if we were sick (despite the taste of it) we need to get our bodies moving around, whether it's enjoyable or not.

Odds are, once you get started, you'll enjoy it. You'll definitely be proud of yourself!

Now, I have to follow my own advice.

    Re: Having Trouble Exercising!!

Congrats on your weight loss. I wish I could have lost that much with no exercise. I hate exercising too, but I know I have to b/c my body doesn't respond to just "diet" alone. I have a treadmill in my house that I use to exercise. It's o.k. for the most part, but I have to keep cranking up the MPH so my body doesn't get used to it. From what I've read, just doing 30 minutes of exercise per day can really help with weight loss results. I've also tried using the "on demand" feature thru my cable provider to do some workout dvd's. They have lots to choose from. Also, you may want to add some weight lifting in to help burn fat and build muscle. I know it may sound like a lot, but once you get a routine going, you'll get used to doing it (and eventually look forward to it.) I know I feel guilty on days when I don't exercise. It's also a great stress reliver.

    Re: Having Trouble Exercising!!

Thanks for the advice!! I know I have to just get up and do it but its so hard to work all day and come home and take care of a household and children at the same time!! But I told my 15 year old that starting today were going to my moms to go swimming (more like wading because its just a little pool) but I figure its a start and I just need something that will not feel like exercise but count as exercise!! I have been looking for a exercise bike or a treadmill or something to that effect every weekend but havent found what I want yet ( And I'm not sure which would be best to get anyways!!) But I am working on it and Having people leave advice and Tips just makes it easier to get up off my butt and do something because I know I need it!! Thanks so much!!

    Re: Having Trouble Exercising!!

I used to hate exercising and now it's one of my priorities. When you start seeing more weight coming off with exercise, it's really encouraging. Not to mention that exercise releases "feel good" chemicals in your brain. :) I started off using Wii Fit. It's fun and doesn't feel like exercising. You can compete with your kids and get them moving, too. lol I do have a treadmill, which I like for doing power walks. I just make sure I have some good tunes on my MP3 player.

Since you have a teen, I have to ask if you have DDR? That's a great, fun way to burn a few calories.

    Re: Having Trouble Exercising!!

Hey Thanks or the advice. I do not have ddr but would love to purchase it but we dont have extra money like that. We went swimming today for about 3 hours and I tried to kinda exercise. I am not sure what to do exactly, but i walked around the inside edge of the pool 50 times at a moderate pace and i did some squats kinda!! Just anything I could really think of to keep moving in the pool!! I am going to start doing this 2-3 hours per day so I hope that helps. I have a Wii and Wii Fit but there both still boxed up!! I am horrible at staying consistent with something. I'll do really good for a few months and then its like i just get bored and give up and then i just talk about starting it again and never actually do it!! Thanks for all the advice everyone it has made me really wanna get up and stop half-as* doing this and do it for real!!

    Re: Having Trouble Exercising!!

First off, great job on the 11 pounds!  That's so awesome that you've been staying consistent with your diet and have managed to do so well in your first few weeks!  It's not easy so I have to give you MAJOR props!

Now, I hate exercising too...Until I am on my treadmill (or aka, the "dreadmill", as I have recently dubbed it lol).  Once I am on that thing and in my zone it's hard to get me off of it!  But I know it's hard to find the motivation to exercise especially when you have small children (or older) which require most of your time and drain all of your energy!  But, even if you just do ten minutes here and there throughout the day then over time you will gain more energy and motivation to do it at longer intervals (at least that's how I started out).  I also don't know what I would do without my iPod.  I have a lot of fast paced songs on there which keep me going when I feel like slowing down...Just try to find something that peaks your interest and motivates you to get you going, and stick with it.  It's not easy at first (and nothing is when you are trying to change your lifestyle) but once you get going you will enjoy it more and more.  When you start seeing the definition in your body and feel more energetic you will feel differently about exercising altogether :)

    Re: Having Trouble Exercising!!

I wish I could get a treadmill I keep telling my boyfriend if I could just put something in front of the tv I would definately exercise. LOL!!! I definately agree about how it makes you feel good. I went swimming last night and when I got home I was like gah I feel smaller already!! lol I know I'm not but I felt so good that I got up and did something and I was so excited. I think this is just what I needed to have everyone be so encouraging about this and I couldn't be happier! Thanks everyone!!

    Re: Having Trouble Exercising!!

     Hello Kels1014:

I joined a water aerobics class. I've never enjoyed swimming but I really enjoy exercising in water. I have trimmed an inch off my hips and my legs no longer "jiggle" when I walk. You can design your own water aerobics or go to websites that specialize in that and view exercises. Simple things like using webbed gloves, a water noodle, or a kick board add variety and resistance. Oh, add music and a friend to talk with. My hour class seems like 20 minutes.

    Best wishes

    Re: Having Trouble Exercising!!

Hi Kels, we're in the same boat! I feel the same way after I get in a good workout and I keep telling myself that I know I've lost something even though I can't see it. It's the motivation I use to help me continue. There are days when I really don't want to and I keep telling myself that I don't like the weight and it gets me up. We all dig deep and use what works for us. I wish u much success with your weight loss goals and life in general!!!

    Re: Having Trouble Exercising!!

Thank you!! I was doing really good this past week or so and then all of a sudden it was like I was made of nothing but excuses of why I couldnt get out and do something!! I have been trying to do laps in my mothers pool or just move around in it period. It has been a little harder this week because my son has been running fever off and on for a few days and the temp out here is usually 110 so I cant take him out but I went skating on wednesday. Not sure if that counts for anything but it wore me out lol. I have just lost my will to want this!! I am taking a few days off to cool off and start over so I hope next week starts off better than this week has!!

    Re: Having Trouble Exercising!!

Okay - so I HATE exercising.  It's one thing my husband enjoys and so he always harps on me about it which makes it worse.  So I have compromised on one thing.  First I took over lawn mowing.  Ipod on and I mow at a fenzied ppace and sucking in every muscle while I walk (esp my maximus butt).  Then I put ona show my husband hates, grab a kids ball (like tht 2 dollar ones at the grocery store) and use that as a tool.  Leg lifts, squeezes with my arms and then my legs, mini crunches and so forth.  I am breathy when I am finished and all muscles are numb and tingly.

I also started walking on lunch at work.  While the weather isn't horrible it's okay, but I hate heat and I know that will be back.  but even 20 minutes at a fast pace makes me feel like I have acomplished something since I used to do NOTHING.  and no, running after the 3 and 1.5 year old isn't exercise.  I can admit it.  But it still makes me sleepy.

Good luck and just keep at it.  15 minutes of something is more than 0 minutes of nothing.

    =)dee
