    Oh, the things I do!

Because there are things that I absolutely cannot give up for my diet, I find myself doing things that I never used to do. Things my husband thinks are ridiculous ("Wouldn't it be easier to just follow your diet, Honey"?). I would like to share two of those things with you:

    1. I buy a bag of M&M's, eat all the brown ones and then pass the bag on to the kids

    2. When eating a salad at a resturant I allow myself to dip the bottom half of my fork tines in my ranch five time throughout my meal.

Please tell me the silly little things you do to enjoy the "forbidden foods" in your diet so that I may inform my hubby that there are others out there like me.

Not quite there, but I will be soon!

Lol, we all do those silly little things.  Mine for awhile was eating 3/4 of my sandwich.  My daughter noticed that one day and said I was ridiculous.  That made me start eating all of it.  I think I should have listened to myself instead of her.  The low-fat Cheese Curls I like have 90 calories for 33 cheese curls.  I count as I eat them and stop at 33.  What would happen if I ate 34?  So silly.

Re: Oh, the things I do!

Give up chocolate? Are you nuts? lol

Hersey's has great chocolate sticks that are 60 calories/4 fat grams. I always make my lunch so that I have enough room to have 1 stick as my "treat" at the end of the meal.

I buy a big bag of "snack" size chocolate candies at Costco, split it up into 4 1 gallon freezer bags, one for each person. That way everyone is responsible for themselves and how much they eat at one time. I'm good and try to have 1 - 2 a day. Serving sizes on this size candy are usually 2 - 4 of the candies.

Skinny Cow has a great line of ice cream treats. Many of them are under 150 calories/3 fat grams. They have a great dipped one that is only 60 calories.

So, I guess I don't have "forbidden" foods, just use alternatives so I can enjoy what I want. Anything that is high calorie/fat is always negotiable because I can always choose to work off those calories with exercise. When I look at things like cake or cookies I think about how much time it will take to work off whatever calories are in it. :) Keeps me from eating too many of those.

Re: Oh, the things I do!

I have 3 chips ahoy cookies a day for my afternoon snack.  I account for the calories in my total allotted calories for the day.

I like to have my junk food on hand, even though I don't eat it (except for my chips ahoy).  This may not be a good idea for everyone. :-0  But somehow, having it around makes me feel like I'm not dieting.  For example, I bought an apple pie at Costco on Friday, but I haven't touched it.

I absolutely love french fries, but can't deal with the side effects even if I don't take Alli.  So, when my hunny orders a burger and fries, I allow myself to eat 2 french fries.  He'll often try to give me a few more, but I always put them back on his plate.
