    Alli/Gallbladder

I had my gallbladder removed about 15 years ago.  Is it safe to take Alli still?

    Re: Alli/Gallbladder

Individuals who have a history of gall bladder disease need to consult with their physician prior to taking alli. Some people may have problem with digesting food, especially fats without a gall bladder.

I also had my gall bladder removed about 15 years ago.  I started Alli on September 10, recommended by my doctor that had my gall bladder removed, and I've not had a problem with anything yet.  I'm down about 3 lbs.  yay!

    Re: Alli/Gallbladder

     Hi!

I'm a noobie and getting my feel around the boards. So I'm just posting tid-bits here and there.

This caught my attention. I had my gall bladder removed 25 years ago. I was the doctor's youngest patient with gallbladder stones. I've never had a problem since. I was told that the body creates a "gallbladder" that stores bile for use when needed to help digest fats. Not sure if this is true or if I have it right even. I was told this 25 years ago!

So, I guess I am thinking if you are taking a pill that helps eliminate fat, why would Alli be a concern? First off you should be intaking less fat, right? And second, you still produce bile, right? I am just pondering, I haven't consulted my doctor about taking Alli. And I hadn't considered the lack of gallbladder a real issue.

    Interesting forum!

I had my gallbladder removed a few years ago.  I've had no problems since the surgery. And, I'm having no problems being on Alli w/o a gallbladder either.

    Re: Alli/Gallbladder

I am so glad to see other people with my problems. I was in a horrible boat accident when i was 18 the only thing harmed was my liver ( which they took half out) but other wise I was fine, a year later I got gall stones most likely resulting to the harm done to my liver in the accident. I am fine now I have my whole liver back and I just want to know if it is safe to take alli . my gall bladder was diseased it was just in a accident:) I want to make sure this is okay to take

    Re: Alli/Gallbladder

The recommendations on the alli label suggests that one who has had gallbladder or liver problem consult with their physician prior to starting any weight loss program and alli.

While alli is not associated with causing any problems, the gall bladder and liver do participate in the digestion of fat.
