Hi lildebbie0506,
Thanks for writing and welcome back to alli! I am sorry to hear that your knee is hurting, and you're right in both aspects. Being overweight can definitely cause a lot of stress on your joints therefore promoting pain and discomfort. The best advice I can give you is to follow your doctor's advice and go see the orthopedic surgeon and have an MRI done. It is probably going to be difficult to lose the weight first through exercise if you're experiencing so much pain. Of course there are some very effective exercises that are very low impact such as swimming, stretching, stationary biking and yoga. You are more than likely going to have to focus the most on your diet though and really pay close attention to calorie/fat intake in order to get some weight off. No matter what, never put off going to the doctor in hopes you can "fix" the problem first.
Best of luck and keep up the great work,
Kelli
