    Meal Plan question...

According to Alli, I am to be on an 1,800 calorie diet, with 19g of fat (maximum) per meal, and no more than 60 grams of fat per day.  (I'm still going to aim for 15g of fat, just to be on the safe side of the treatment effects.)

I was already journaling my food intake at everdayhealth.com.  I have gone in and updated my targets to match those of Alli.  Do I have to follow Alli's meal plan, or can I plan my meals as I want without going over my daily targets?  Reducing my calories and fats and exercising prior to starting the Alli capsules has helped me lose about 2 pounds in a week.  (woo hoo!)  I figured that if I keep doing what I'm doing and add Alli, I should really see the weight come off.  I start the capsules today (7/4/08).

Am I going about it the right way as I have been doing?

Hi, The Alli menu plans are there as guidelines and to help you with meal planning, The great thing about the program is the flexibility, as long as you are meeting your caloric and fat targets you are free to eat what you want. Of course the healthier the choices the better you will feel. Hope this helps. Sophia De Monte RPh

    Re: Meal Plan question...

    Sophia,

Yes, that helps  a lot.  Thanks!  I normally do not go over my calories, but I can't for the life of me get up to 60g of fat per day.  Lord knows I'm trying.  For example, I just finished dinner a little while ago; my daily total of fat grams is 40 for today (7/5).  Is that something I should be concerned about?

I didn't realize until I thought about taking Alli that I eat a low fat diet anyway, that is, when I cook at home and plan accordingly.  It's when I don't cook and plan and go out to eat that I'm in trouble.

I know I'm new here, but if I could encourage anyone, it would be to be sure to eat the late morning and late afternoon snacks.  I have noticed a distinct difference when I do that.  I normally don't get the slumps (drops in blood sugar levels), plus I'm more alert throughout the day.

Just my 2 cents.  Thanks again for the advice.

P.S.  What if one meal's fat grams is more than required for that meal (19g in my case), but my daily fat gram total is still under the limit (60g)?  Am I going to have treatment effects for that meal?

    Re: Meal Plan question...

Hi there and welcome to the Alli family :)

Just to add my .02 worth - I'm also on the 1800 / 60 plan and I work my meal fat grams to "my" needs.  I normally don't eat a big breakfast, so if I hit 10 fat grams at breakfast, I'm probably doing good !!  Lunch I try to get close to 15 or so .. then dinner is when I splurge as I have the extra fat grams and it satisfies me for the rest of the evening (plus I have my 2 snacks during the day).  I haven't experienced any TE's due to having more fat grams at dinner.

    Hi Renee,

Are you registered?  The myalli plan should allow you to list your meals and activities to help you along in the process.
