    Newbie-First Day

Three lbs. is great!   For myself, I'm trying to remember that it took me 7 years to gain 70 lbs, so I can't really expect to lose it at record speed either (although I'm definitely hoping to lose it in much less than 7 years!)  Maybe that philosphy will work for you, too?

Due to work schedules, my husband does all of the grocery shopping and all of the cooking and his 3 food groups are fat, fatter, and fattest.  If it's fried or floating in butter, he loves it.  We work opposite schedules half the time, so I'm going to use those times to their fullest to "stick to it" and sometimes I'm just going to have to refuse to eat what he cooks.  He'll be mad, but that's just tough.  A little over a week ago I went grocery shopping (I'd forgotten what the inside of a grocery store even looked like!) and bought loads of fruit, 15 grain bread, light mayo, skim milk, and Cheerios.  He got mad because "there's no room in the refrigerator for all this crap."  See what I'm up against?  He's no help and gives me no support whatsoever, so if I'm going to do this, I'm going to have to do it on my own - and with the support of you great people on these boards.  My cholesterol and blood pressure are both high, so I've got to do something now or I might as well just go crawl into my pine box.  And, just for spite, I've decided I won't give my husband the satisfaction of collecting on my life insurance policy (ha, ha, ha), so I'm going to stay the course!!!  Lets help eachother!  I've found the encouragement on the website to be the #1 most valuable ingredient in the alli plan!

    Re: Newbie-First Day

Do you mind if I get in on this too. I cant start until the 7-13-08, waiting on doctors aproval, but I started working out last week gym, and bike riding with the kids. I am 27 and 292 and only 5'7 I am 8 lbs away from surgery. I told myself I would give this my last try before gastric bypass. I really dont want to be cut open! but I am 8 lbs from total depression, I just started working out last week and I have already lost 4lbs so I imagine with alli I should drop 5 to 10 lbs a week. I look foward to this journey with you guys.

    Re: Newbie-First Day

I can relate with you on this. My husband likes to cook and eat and so he does most of the shopping. He too likes greasy fat foods. I would be happy with a bowl of cereal and he want fried chicken, rolls, gravy ect. I try to talk him in grilling more and we do from time to time but not enough. Our youngest son has high cholesterol of 240, weighs 102 lbs is 4' 6"  and he is only 8 and that does not seem to make him want to change.

I have not even told him that I am doing Alli. I do not get an support from him on this either. I am going to the lake with my children and best friend for 2 weeks and I hope that I can lose some weight during this time. He will not be with me except for the last weekend.

I will check back in on ya'll in a week and see how everyone is doing. Good luck to all I hope you reach your goals.

    Re: Newbie-First Day

     Hi everyone!

Saturdays are weigh-in days for me. Today was my first and I'm down 4.5 lbs. I'm happy but not THAT happy...I guess I've got used to dropping huge amounts of pounds in just one week when I went on crazy diets and now I have to get used to actually loosing steady, pure fat weight. I'm following the Alli menus but I confess it gets hard sometimes to put all ingredients together and it's more time consuming than following my own diet but I do it bc at least I know I'm within my caloric range of 1400 and 15g of fat per meal.

I have a question. When the meal we're eating falls below the allowed fat amount (for example, I can eat 15g of fat per meals but it frequently falls under that), do we still have to take the alli pill with that meal? What would be the benefit of that?

Hope to hear from you all and your progress!!

    Re: Newbie-First Day

With any meal that has fat in it take your alli pill.  Sounds to me like you've been at this as long as I and everyone else has.  Keep up the good work, glad to hear you're following the meal plans.  I for one was never able to take directions very well let alone follow a laid out plan.  I like to do things my way.  I was on weight watchers for ... gosh, I don't know.. years.  I lost 50 lbs but gained more than half of that back due to a lengthy bought of depression (really bad relationship).  Once I got out of that I could get serious again about my weight and getting healthy again, which is why I chose alli.  I am seeing slow but steady results, and once I am able to exercise regularly then more of it will come off.  I did learn to cook healthier meals while being on weight watchers.  I have a few cook books with lots of yummy meal ideas.  I shared one of my favorite meals on this forum and it should be up soon, hopfully.  :)

    Re: Newbie-First Day

If you eat over 5g of fat at the meal you can, and should take an alli pill.  I very rarely hit 15 grams per meal but i am always over and 5 and always take a pill.  The way alli works is really great, it binds to a portion of the enzyme that breaks down fat to be absorbed into your body.  since you are blocking only a portion of the amount of enzyme with the alli pill, it really doesn't assist with under 5 grams of fat intake.  Once you reach or go over your set amount there is not enough free enzyme to bind all the fat you took in and thus it leaves your body...the more fat you eat the fast it leaves (ie TEs).  So always take a pill for a meal over 5 grams of fat.  I do not do the meal plans associated with alli because it's just too much money to buy all those random little ingredients.  I cook A LOT and my boyfriend has no choice but to eat all the healthy stuff (although he would probably just have a protein shake for every meal if he could).  But i do slimfast for breakfast mainly because it ups my fat grams significantly, and they taste great!

    Re: Newbie-First Day

     Good Morning Ladies!

Today was my first weigh in, and I lost two pounds!  For those of you that weren't happy with 3-5 lbs...I just don't know what to say!  I'm so excited that all my hard work paid something!!

I have an idea for those ladies who's hubby's do the cooking, there is a website that I cannot say enough good things about, www.allrecipies.com !  You can search recipies by type, even down to a cut of meat/poultry, ingredients etc.   It will give you the recipie,  it even allow you to adjust the # of servings and it will change the measurements...but the biggest thing is that it gives you all the nutritional information just like on a food lable!!  All you have to do is plug that information into your nutrition log!!  If you can print out a recipe and get your hubby to follow it you have it made, but if not at least you have your meal planned.  I tried one last night called Low Cal Chicken, it was EASY and tasted great!!  It actually took less than 5 minutes to prepare and put in the oven and an hr later I was eating a very healthy meal.

I have 50 lbs to lose and I'm really excited to be on this journey with all of you....I hope that we can give each other hope, information and encouragement...and all celebrate the successes together!

    Let's get this party started!!!!!

    Re: Newbie-First Day

     Hello girls,

it's so nice to hear from people motivated as you are rcprincess! It makes me wonder why I couldn't be more excited with my 4.5 pounds loss...anyways, I was doing good so far. It's been a week today I'm on the plan but this evening things went out of control. I took a nap on the couch before dinner and I woke up around 6:30 pm just starving (for sweets of course) and I ate two twix chocolate bars, plus 3/4 of a Dove bar and french bread with sausage without any limits in calories or fats. No need to say that right now I feel like a failure (which, I know.., I shouldn't) and why not to say a little disgusted with myself. I know it's impossible to have 100% of control all the time but when I go into those binge frenzies...I am almost scared of myself! :(

What can I do but to get back on track tomorrow! Still have 17.5 lbs to go.

Have a great week! and rcprincess, tks for the website! It's awesome!

I try not to binge eat but if  I must, I go stright for the baby carrots and a smoothie. hopefully I can keep this up.. But so far I have a lot more energy and more time for my kids. "O" healthy choice is a great idea for a on the go single mother.

    Re: Newbie-First Day

Hello,  I too am a Newbie, I just started my low fat, low calorie eating plan today.  I will start the pills in a few days.  I am now at 212 lbs!  I have never weighed this much in my life.  I am 48 yrs old and I do not want to be fat at 50!  I work out at Curves 3 times a week and I walk in between.  I am eating 1800 calories a day and so far my day is going fine.  I have alot of confidence in this plan.  I am hoping/praying to lose 10lbs in a month.  Wish me luck!

    Re: Newbie-First Day

Congratulations to all of those who have lost weight!!  Great news!  I can finally start working out again, my injury has fully healed and I'm full of energy.  I guess waiting around for 3 months will do that.  I read one post (I forget your name, forgive me) about a lady that took a nap on the couch and woke up starving and ate chocolate candies followed by high fat/calorie foods.  I've found it helpful to always have a glass/bottle of water around so it's the first thing I go for (after the bathroom of course) that way I don't eat the chocolate candies or scarf down anything in sight.  I don't think I'm losing weight as fast as I should be.  I don't eat the recommended amount of fat grams per meal but I try to eat 1800 calories per day.  Thanks for the tip on the breakfast idea.  I don't eat a whole lot for breakfast and I feel like I've wasted an alli pill.  Maybe my luck will change and I'll fall off this plateau.

    Re: Newbie-First Day

     Hey everyone,

Can I join this awsome group? You all sound like a very motivated bunch of girls.  I'm 23, 5'5'' and 175lbs with 35lbs to lose. Today is my first day with the alli pill and so far everything's good. I'm still a little worried about the TEs but my friend said in the 4 months she was on it she only had them maybe twice. I don't want to have them even once, so I will definately be watching what I eat!!! I am also working out at curves 3-4 times a week.  I'm a little discouraged because I've been working out there for 2 weeks and watching what I eat and I haven't lost even 1lb. I can tell, however, that my muscle mass is starting to come back. I'm wanting to lose at least 23lbs by Christmas. Is that a reasonable amount of time to lose that much??? Well, I wish all of you luck!!! WE CAN DO THIS!!!!!!!!

Welcome Shauna! You're still so young so you have the advantage of having your metabolism running smoothly for you! :) So HBarron2006, congratulations on being back on track! I was the lady that took a nap on the couch and I really appreciate your suggestion of leaving some water nearby. I'll keep that in mind. I've just lost 2 pounds this past week. Maybe bc I ate chinese the day before my weigh in? Although it wasn't much I can tell the difference by the way my clothes are fitting me better, specifically around my tighs. I'm trying to incorporate more exercises during the week. I have a treadmill at home and I go to my community's club some times to lift weights but sometimes the stress/fatigue overpowers me and I don't do anything. But I definetely think the pills are making a difference. It is a slow process but I also think that's how "permanent" weigh loss should be.

Congratulations on the pounds lost this week everyone! Have a great week!

    Re: Newbie-First Day

Hello All -- I'm hoping that I can join your group -- I just started Alli yesterday and I'm hoping that in conjunction with WW the Alli will help me lose a little faster. I am hypothyroid so it is exremely difficult for me to lose weight -- my metabolism seems to go nowhere! And because of the severe arthritis/bulging discs in my back it is hard to do any form of exercise. But I am hopeful that Alli will work and that with all weight loss programs -- patience is the key. I figure it took me 52 years to put on the weight -- probably take me a few to get it off!

Best of luck to all of you -- I will be watching your progress.

    Cathie
