    Mayo = BAD

Yikes - I only had 1 teaspoon with my tuna... it was not good.  I like mayo so this will be a change.  Anyone else have this issue?

    Re: Mayo = BAD

     jdemo78,

What else did you have with your meal?

I eat mayo almost every day at lunch time. Usually between 2 and 3 teaspoons, depending on the rest of the meals' fat content.

    Re: Mayo = BAD

     Hi J,

I use the low fat mayo without having any issues.  1 tsp doesn't sound like enough to be bothersome.  I'd try it again in a few days and make sure your fat grams for the meal aren't too high because of something else - or maybe a bad snack?  I use reduced fat Peanut Butter too.

    Re: Mayo = BAD

I started using "Hellman's" Light Mayo. I can't hardly tell a difference in the taste, and it hasn't made a difference with weight loss because I am down 2.5 pounds this week.

    Re: Mayo = BAD

Yeah I don't understand - I had tuna and salad and fruit... it was essentially a low fat meal- the mayo didn't agree with me I guess.  I will try low fat mayo.

    P.S. - 1st weigh in - down 4.5 lbs ;-)

    Re: Mayo = BAD

J, mayo is one of those things that can spoil really quickly.  If left out after opened or if the seal on a new jar wasn't good, maybe you've simply got bad mayo.

    Re: Mayo = BAD

Yes- that could be... maybe I just didn't store it properly?  I bought some lower fat mayo anyway - I really hope it helps!

    Re: Mayo = BAD

     Hi JD,

Lower fat mayo is probably a good idea anyway.  Some of the Alli meals paint with a rather wide brush.  PB&J on WW English Muffin for example.  If you don't use reduced fat PB and Light English Muffin, both the calories and fat for the meal are a bit too high.  Maybe not enough to technically matter, or they'd say so in the recipe.  In the beginning I was a bit of a fanatic about making sure what I was using from my pantry wasn't too high in fat, calories or sodium.  There can be an enormous difference in nutritional value in something as simple as bread or jarred spaghetti sauce.  Read labels, read labels, read labels.

Saw your other post about the George Forman grill.  Those are wonderful appliances!  Wonder if I'll ever use a saute pan again? :-)

    Have a great day,

    Mary

    Re: Mayo = BAD

Try the Kraft Free Mayo. It is fat free and I can't tell the difference. I mix it in my tuna. I put it on sandwiches. I love it.

    Re: Mayo = BAD

     Hi there,

Careful with the fat free.  Sometimes you need the fat grams in the mayo to get your fat gram total right for the meal.

    Re: Mayo = BAD

You know - I think it is the tuna that is killing me, not the mayo.  Here are the series of my unfortunate events:

    1) Had Tuna with Mayo (prompting Mayo = Bad) TE City...

    2) Bought Low fat mayo.  Had Turkey breast sandwich with low fat mayo - fine - no issues.

    3) Had Tuna with no mayo with a salad - TE NIGHTMARE... the only other thing I had was cantelope and some grapes.

It is Tuna in water... There was no other fat in the meal so I just don't get it.  It seems Tuna may be my problem.  But I don't have a gallbladder and there are "trigger foods" so I am thinking that Tuna is just one of them?  Maybe I will give tuna one more try this weekend and see what happens.

    Re: Mayo = BAD

Wow, JD.  Tuna?  Who'd a thunk??  Dark tuna?  Light tuna?  Brand?  I haven't read the labels on different brands of tuna yet, but maybe some have more fat than others?  I did find that to be true with canned shrimp.

    Re: Mayo = BAD

Wow, ladies, now I'm curious about the nutritional content of the tuna you're using.  I've been having tuna salad all along and would hate it if I couldn't.  Here's what I use:

Chicken of the Sea Solid White Albacore, 3 oz can.  Alli recipe calls for 2 oz.  I use the whole thing.

    Calories 100; Fat grams 2; Sodium 350mg

Best (same as Hellman's) Light Mayo, 1 tbsp

    Calories 45; Fat grams 4.5, sodium 115mg

Chopped celery and lemon pepper goes into that and I put it in half a pita or on toasted whole wheat with lettuce.

Maybe other brands/types of tuna have more fat?  Maybe if you're having the tuna with greens and not a fiberous bread, it's having an effect?  Maybe too much fat in the mayo?

Here's to getting Tuna back on your plates :-)

    Re: Mayo = BAD

I use Chicken of the Sea Light Tuna but I have been using the REG Hellmans. I try not to put too much but there is no difference if I eat it with 100% Whole grain bread or in a bowl. I'll try the light mayo and see what happens
