Vegan w/elevated cholesterol and triglycerides--help with menues

I've been a vegetarian for 12 years and vegan for 3.  It appears that because of genetic factors

my diet should not include fats, sweets, simple carbohydrates, or grains--or at least restrict them.

I have been using Alli for nine months and have seen a four pound drop in weight.  I'm 65, 120 lbs.,

5' 1/2" (1/2" counts), and low activity.  I know that getting more exercise is vital to my health.  Can

you suggest a menu that would fit the Alli Plan?  Not much information (maybe none) is provided

for vegetarians/vegans.  Thank you so much.  Kay

    Hi Kay,

Let me ask you a few questions:

You are 65 years old, 5' 1/2" tall and currently weight 120 pounds?  How many pounds are you trying to lose?  Your weight seems to be perfect for your height and age.  Are you looking just for a vegetarian/vegan menu to maintain your weight?

In the meantime I will recommend visiting the following vegetarian website:

    http://www.vegetariannutrition.net/links.htm

Visit the American Dietetic Association website for information on vegetarian menu planning - their vegetarian practice group is great and you can also find a dietitian in your area who may be able to provide a more detail vegan/vegetarian menu that meats the alli recommendations, if needed.

Also, go to the vegetarian support group in this message board under "my experience" forum.  You will find a great number of vegetarians and vegans consuming alli.

    Hope this helps,

Sylvia Melendez-Klinger, MS, RD, LDN, CPT - registered dietitian
