    not loosing a pound yet?

I would like to know I have been on alli for about 3weeks now and I want to know why I haven't seena difference? What am I doing wrong? In my diet daily I eat for beakfast rice crispy cereal with a banana (not sugar), lunch I eat a garden salad with either grilled chicken or grilled/baked fish desert is a small cup of orange shebert, and for dinner I will eat a chicken salad sandwich on wheat bread. I drink alot of water and I exercise 4 to 6 times a week. I'm doing 45 minutes on the treadmill and 20 minutes on the bike.

I thought I would have seen some type of weight loss even if it's just 2 pounds but weighing myself last week and again this week I've gained 4 pounds. Why is this? Please advise.

Re: not loosing a pound yet?

    Ejones and Lorrie,

Please don't give up!!!  Ejones, it sounds like you may not be getting enough fat in your diet for the alli pill to help.  Take a look at the meal plans, they will help you get an idea of just how much you need to eat for optimal weight loss.  Remember, if you do not get enough calories/fat, your body will think it is in starvation mode and will conserve what you consume.  If you are exercising as well, you will need even more calories/fat to see the weight loss.  There are 2 posts written by the dietician that explain why you need to get in the necessary calories and fat grams per day.  What plan are you on?  I am on the 1800calories, 19g of fat per meal.

    Lorrie,

Have you always exercised?  If not, and you are just starting that, you are probably building muscle which weighs more than fat.  Although muscle weighs more than fat, muscle requires more calories and burns calories.  Try to just weigh once a week, because day to day fluctuations may cause you to lose faith.  I have been on the plan now for 3 weeks and have lost 6lbs.  I wish the lbs would drop quicker, but 1-2lbs a week is considered healthier.  I have however lost several inches, my clothes are looser, and I have more energy.  I would suggest you take your measurements...you will probably notice that the inches are steadily decreasing.

Remember, we are all in this together, so please don't give up!!!

Re: not loosing a pound yet?

I have also felt alot of frustration over the last two weeks. wk 1 lost 3 lbs, wk 2 lost 2 lbs, wk 3 gained 2lbs, wk 4 maintained     The biggest frustration to me is that my digestive (bowel) system has been going crazy now for the last few weeks. No side effects the first two weeks- I did not change anything in my diet or exercise- and then over a week without a bowel movement( i know gross sorry). I called my doctor and she recommended over the counter meds and possible haulting Alli since I seem to be getting opposite side effects. I stopped Alli but didn't take any meds yet. As soon as I stopped the Alli within 24 hrs I am going regular again.  The only thing I can think of is that I am not getting enough fat in my diet for Alli to work for me. I eat under 10g of fat a meal and under 30 a day, between 1600-1800 cal a day, drink on average 15 glasses of water a day and follow the alli exercise plan.  I am also on medication including a daily water pill to maintain my high blood pressure-not sure if that makes a difference?   I really really want to do this and reach my goal weight, size, and lower my blood pressure! Please offer any suggestions.

Re: not loosing a pound yet?

The alli meal plans have an average of 25 grams of fiber per meal, which is the recommended amount of fiber for an adult.  If you were not used to consuming this much fiber, It is common to experience some constipation.  Here are some suggestions to alleviate the problem - increase fiber in increments of 5 grams every other day along with plenty of water.  Also, you may try one of the yogurt with the benefits of helping speed up your digestive system.

    Here is more information:

"When it comes to fiber, you can overdo a good thing!  Too much fiber can move food through the digestive tract faster than some nutrients can be absorbed.  By eating more than 50 to 60 grams of fiber a day, your body may lower the absorption of vitamins and minerals, among them zinc, iron, magnesium, and calcium.  An excessive amount of fiber may cause gas, diarrhea, and bloating.  By filling up with too many high-fiber foods or fiber supplements, you may not have an appetite for other nutrient- rich foods.

How might you get too much fiber? By eating a lot of bran, very-high fiber cereals, or perhaps using a fiber supplement in an eating plan that already has plenty of vegetables, fruits, and whole grains."  The key eat your recommended amounts of fiber (as you are already doing) and drink plenty of water - new requirements call for a minimum of 13 cups per day!

Re: not loosing a pound yet?

I did purchase some of the yogart you mentioned today. I also have been reading alot more on this website on the recommended meals since I chose to do my own meal plan. I really think after reading your post and this website I am getting too much fiber. In addition to the alli pill I get fiber in my cereal, protien bars and shakes, and the numerous whole grains and veggies I have in my diet. Thanks for the advise! I really appreciate being able to come onto these forums and get nearly immediate advis, support, help and know that I am not alone.
