Alli & Diabetes meds - any interaction I should watch for?

    Good morning,

It's my first week on Alli, and I wanted to ask about potential interactions with my diabetes medication. I am taking the following: Actos 45mg 2x per day, Metformin 1000 mg 2x per day, Lisinopril 10 mg 2x per day, and Lantus insulin 12 units once per day.

I take a multivitamin and iron, along with an omega-3 for joint health, a hair-skin-nail vitamin, and a coenzyme q10 supplement. It sounds like a lot, but I feel much better when I am taking them!

I walk at least a mile a day at lunchtime, and will be joining a gym this week for additional exercise. Thanks in advance for the help - I'm looking forward to great results and I want to lose at least 100 pounds, but I'm afraid of the weight loss surgery since I have a tendency toward keloids (raised scars) and I also have a 17-year old daughter who is watching every move I make LOL.

Hello and welcome to the alli plan. First, I want to be sure you have spoken to your doctor about taking alli. The package labeling states that if you are using medications to treat diabetes, you should talk to your doctor before starting to lose weight with alli. This is because as you change your diet and lose weight, your dosages of diabetes medications may need to be adjusted. You should be monitoring your blood sugar whenever you change your diet as well. You see, your current diabetes medications are based on your weight and how many calories you take in, so if you change either of those and you will be changing both!), you should keep a closer eye on your blood sugar. As long as your doctor is aware of your using alli to lose weight, and you are monitoring your blood sugar, you do not need to be concerned with dangerous drug interactions between alli and any of your medications.

Best of luck on the alli plan. We hope you turn to the message boards and alli circles for support that can help you be successful! And after you lose your 100 lbs, be sure to share your story so others can be inspired!

Let us know if we can help in any way....we are here for you!
