Re: Anybody else starting alli this the week of 8/18?

I am not having any TEs whatsoever. I am a little worried that the pills might not even be working. I even increased my fat intake to see if anything would happen..and nothing. Anybody else experiencing this?

Re: Anybody else starting alli this the week of 8/18?

I started it last night (8/24) but also had it sitting on my shelf for over a week before starting.  We had special occasions (2 birthdays in our family) and I knew I'd blow it, so I waited.  Our family is going to visit my in-laws on Sept 20th for 5 days so I'm going to go off of Alli again for that time and start taking it again when we get back, and sustain it throughout the holidays.  Talk about a test of my will power!  :)

My ultimate goal is to be at my GW of 140 by the time we go on a cruise on Spring Break of 09.  My CW is 154 but it's been sticking around for 4 years now, since I had twins, and I'm so frustrated by my appearance.  I have a dh that loves to cook fattening meals, and he is a GREAT cook so of course I love to eat them.  I'm the only one in my immediate family that's overweight, and I want so badly to wear a swimsuit on the ship and be happy with my appearance.  The twins really stretched me out beyond recognition, but I'm hoping to at least take the fat off, and stuff the extra skin in my suit and be ok with that.  I've never worn a 2 piece and I know I never will, which is fine.

This is a real challenge, but I've been writing down everything that goes in my mouth and in 12 hours haven't had any of the treatment effects.  I look forward to watching the weight come off.  I've been walking/running on my treadmill for over a year and using hand weights, doing tummy exercises, and yet I continue to sabatoge myself with eating too much of my dh's cooking.  :sigh:  I hope this does the trick, because if it doesn't I'll probably just have to concede to being this weight forever and I don't want to do that.  I look forward to watching the scale be my friend again.

This is a common issue ("I don't think it's working, no TEs!") on the board. Everyone's body reacts differently to it and everyone gets TEs from different levels of fats. There are so many variables that play into how your body reacts to food, as well as to Alli.

Be happy you're not getting TEs, and don't push your luck too much!  Proof it is working will come on the scale!

I started the pills today and now I just have to get started on the exercise. Was supposed to go golfing this morning but plans got changed. I want to start biking regularly. I am 215 and my goal is 140. I am 48 and tired of being overweight. I want to get healthy and feel better about myself.

Re: Anybody else starting alli this the week of 8/18?

I just started last Wednesday.  I had been dieting (watching calories and fat intake) but wanted a little extra boost.  Have done the Weight Watchers thing, Nutrisystem, Atkins, and starvation.  Hoping that this will give me the little extra I need to stay focused.

I have to weigh in Wednesday and have no idea where this is going.

Hang in there and we'll see how it goes.

Re: Anybody else starting alli this the week of 8/18?

I just started yesterday.  Everything seems to be going good so far.  I have been so scared of side effects that I have been watching fat content like a hawk.  Everyone says I look much thinner than I actually am......even I can't believe it when I actually have to see the numbers.... I dont "feel" that big.  I am looking for support too (way to embarrassed to completely let it out to those close to me...... somehow "strangers" make it seem easier).  So anyone looking for support buddies - I am here!  I truely love reading everyones highlights!!!!

I'm the same way. Everyone guesses I weigh 165 or so, but it's really more like 180.

I'm always up for support buddies!

Re: Anybody else starting alli this the week of 8/18?

I'm nervous about my weigh in on Friday, because I've gotten my expectations up so high by doing this.  It's the most dilligent I've ever been about watching what I eat in my entire life, and I'm looking forward to the time when I'll get a "groove" with it and not have to be so meticulous....do you think that day will ever come?  :)

I went about 500 calories over my 1400 allotment today, my first full day.  But I got on my treadmill and ran for a full 5 minutes before walking with the weights, and then went on an hour walk with a neighbor tonight too, to try and get the extra off.  I hope this doesn't just make me maintain this week!!  I desperately want the scale to move down.  Either way, I made the sixty dollar commitment to take all of the pills because I bought the big pack at Costco, so I had better get a long-term mentality with it!  haha

I am doing good on watching what I eat but the exercise thing is hard for me. I get too bored working out alone. Wish I had someone to walk with or bike with. I enjoy getting outside and love to golf but don't like working out by myself. So you go girl keep up the good work with the exercise that is real important!

Re: Anybody else starting alli this the week of 8/18?

If it weren't for the exercise I think this would all be in vain....I'm only supposed to have 1500 calories but had over 800 more yesterday, and that was just with a banana for snack!  :gasp:  So getting the walk in with my neighbor and the treadmill is what got me 3 pounds lighter on the scale this morning.  It's not my check-in date yet, but I couldn't help sneaking a peek this morning anyway.  :D  I'll keep it up and see what happens by Friday.  This gave me more motivation to keep it up though, that's for sure.

Doing little things like walking further to a parking spot at the grocery store or taking the stairs instead of elevator on shopping trips can help if you don't have a walking partner.  Is there anyone from work you could motivate to walk with you, maybe?  My neighbor walks on her lunch break with a coworker.

Re: Anybody else starting alli this the week of 8/18?

I am dissappointed. I cheated and weighted myself 2 days prior to my weigh-in and guess what..I GAINED 2 lbs. I have watched my fat/calorie intake for the most part, I slipped only once. It is very discouraging. Anyways, I hope this is working for the rest of you.

Re: Anybody else starting alli this the week of 8/18?

    Hi BCBGal,

The fact that you are not having any treatment effects does not mean that alli is not working. TE's are NOT guaranteed to happen when you consume excess fat. They MAY happen, but they may not. It has to do with how your body processes food. The fat is going to come out, but you do not have to see it for it to be there. The fat will be mixed in with your stools when you do not see it. You are not guaranteed to never have an effect so each time that you test it could be the time that it happens. It would happen 24 to 72 hours later and there is no way to stop it once it starts.

Another thing to keep in mind is that by testing alli with high fat foods you are going to sabotage your weight loss. You lose weight by sticking with your recommended amount of calories. Adding extra fat means adding extra calories. Your weight can vary up to 7 lbs in one day so you may have lost weight even if it didn't show up at one weigh-in. Give your calorie recommendations a try for at least 2 weeks and see how your weight responds.

Let me know if you have any other questions,

    Betty Kovacs, MS, RD

I make sure I weigh myself early in the morning before I eat and drink. I always weigh in my undergarments. I never step back on the scale after I have drank or ate. I am starting my 4th week and have dropped 9lbs. I have been trying to lose weight for 7 years. I started my annual diet (lol) in Feburary and was 215 lbs and lost 12 lbs in 6 months without ALLI. I started Alli on the 11th of August and have already dropped 9. I find it works because I have tried every diet out there and If you take ALLI and follow the guidelines the weight will come off at least it is really working for me. Don't give up it works.
